Panik didnt bump Hagelin off the 3rd line. Panik is at RW and Hagelin has never had a 3rd line spot under Lavi.

OK. Lets try this another way. Panik gets promoted to the 3rd line and to the 2nd pp unit. Interesting. Is that satisfactory?

He's had that 3rd line gig for all of camp. Are you just now noticing? Heck, he was on the 3rd line for the majority of last season, as well. It was only at the tail end that the bottom six was shuffled and he ended up playing on the 4th.

No boss. From last season. Geez. In my last post. I said as much.

Panik bumps Hagelin off the 3rd line and Eller off the power play. Its interesting
I didn’t see the PP bump part, for Eller.

I think Lavy doesn’t know these players all that well, besides tape. So he’s going to spend a little time testing out their engines in different spots.

this is where the lack of a full camp and preseason games will hurt them. Not as bad as the WFT in the NFL, for those who care about both, but perhaps pretty severely.

hope not. Short season hurts

In another coaching difference between Reirden and Laviolette, we have a fashion upgrade. Post practice Reirden almost always wore the same warmup suit. So far Laviolette in contrast has not wore the same thing twice. He is working his way thru the entire collection

First head coaching gig money vs fifteen years of head coaching money :sarcasm:

As long as he doesn't get a NMC, I wouldn't have a problem with giving Anderson a league minimum contract and stashing him as the #3 in the taxi squad. He's hovered close to the .900 mark for the last three years (142 games), so I'm not convinced he's going to be a consistent or strong enough guy to trust with the 30/40% of games we're going to want the backup to start for. But having that veteran presence to guide and mentor two young Gs (remember, the #3 travels with the team everywhere), and someone who shouldn't be too nervous stepping in for one of the others if they falter or are unfit to play would be good.,lp

We've seen that young guys with mostly/entirely AHL experience can come in and perform – Jordan Binnington, Tristan Jarry, Samsonov etc. – so if Vanecek doesn't look to the coaches as not-ready, it makes sense to give him the nod.

Interested to see which of Sheary or Sprong get waived and which gets to play. I'm not sure there's anything else up for grabs, honestly, unless they surprise us and waive one of their 8D or something.

I think teams are keeping 3 goalies. COVID kind of requires that. If you have 2 goalies and one get injured, the call up requires quarantine. You are SOL.

Yes, inexperienced goalies have shown they CAN come in and perform, they fail more often than they succeed. They if they CAN perform, they are performing at SURVIVAL level far more often than cup winning/division winning level. Keep in mind that if they keep Vanecek, they have a starting goalie that has never done that before. Where his main NHL experience is playing managed games for a back up goalie. That and a back up that has never played a game in the league. For me the phrase crap shoot comes to mind

ICYMI Alexa Shaw took Rob Carlin's spot on NBCSW pregame (starts Thursday) and Bruce Boudreau has joined NBCSW as a commentator with Alan May.

Surprised Bruce isn't coaching because obviously it's what he still wants to do but eager to see his insight on the team as an analyst

Oh wow. I guess Boudreau was serious that if he didn't get the coaching gig he wanted, he was going to take a break. Welcome back to Washington, Bruce!

There was talk of him possibly being an assistant coach with Toronto but that fizzled out. Good to see him back. I have no hard feelings towards Bruce at all esp with the Caps finally getting over the hump

I was advocating for him to be an offensive assistant coach here over the break. Working with the forwards and/or PP. Yeah, I have no hard feelings towards Bruce anymore I have hard feelings over guys like Mike Green or Semin. It's all under the bridge now, and they are all still a big part of Caps' history.

Im not a huge fan of Alexa Shaw shes from Cali and seems like a fake fan. Carlin was def a DC fan i would even prefer Grant. OH well we can see Thursday how she does

Just guessing but it seems likely that Carlin was more expensive and Shaw is much lower on the salary ladder.

As for Boudreau, he has always been lucky that a job that fits his profile has been open when he was let go. I think Bruce would be coaching if there was a job there that wanted him that he also wanted. I dont expect him to be on the sidelines long. His record is just too good
