I really do think it's going to be Orlov-Carlson with heavy minutes after seeing those practice pairings again. I don't see either Laviolette or McCarthy sticking to the idea of keeping Orlov and Carlson on different lines that's been the prevalent thought of previous coaching staffs here for years.

its all going to hinge on those two playing at an elite level together.....where they’ve never looked that great in limited showings previously IMO.

Also, finally we have a respectable guy or two behind 9 & 74 who can carry their own pairings....

Yeah definitely both need a good showing and chemistry. It seems like both Lavi and especially McCarthy are traditionalists when it comes to their combos, handedness, and playing time and stuff. Guess we'll have a true traditional 1st pairing type if these practices are anything to go by.

Yes, sir. Mr. Chara, sir.

It might not work out in practice but in theory Chara-Jensen is an awesome third pairing. Both are defensively sound overall but they seem like a nice complement as well. Jensen is a good skater and is better in transition and Chara can do a bit more heavy lifting in front of the net and in the corners. Jensen has a muffin for a shot and Chara...doesn't. Importantly I don't see this pair needing to be sheltered at all, which is somewhat rare for third pairings in the NHL.

I said it before but Schultz is the biggest question mark. If he's able to regain some of his form it's a really solid blue line top to bottom.

He is the big question mark. I don't expect good things from him, so hopefully I'm surprised. Honestly I have a feeling when push comes to shove TVR will be the one trusted enough to be in the top 6. Moving the puck is nice, but not when your giving up scoring chances like crazy.

i expect jensen to be 2RD and TVR to be the 3RD by the TDL. Schultz is not much but seattle fodder to me

Good thing about our defense depth is that even if Schultz sucks and eventually becomes our 6th/7th D if we tinker with our pairs a bit and eventually find a combination that works it is going to be an okayish defense prepared for COVID outbreak/injuries. If Schultz can play like a 4th D or better we have a really solid defense this season.

Who's likely on the teams ride-a-long crew? Daniel carr?
Yeah, Carr and Paul La Due seem like clear choices. One of Copley, Andersson, or Vanacek as well. Sgarbossa would make sense. Maybe Pihno, but they may want him to get more games in the AHL. I think Gersich would actually make sense for that specific role since he has a lot of games under his belt, PKs, has a 200 foot game, and has a ton speed. It sounds like guys who's junior leagues shut down for the season can go to the AHL now, so I would imagine top prospects in juniors go there if their league shuts down, rather than hang out on the taxi squad. It would be a tough transition for Lapierre at this point, but at least he could some games in the AHL and get a taste of what his future holds for him. I think the taxi squad will be more for guys who are kind of AAAA players or maybe vets on the fring like Andersson. I thought it could include guys like McMichael before, but it seems like there will more options for them now.

Yeah, I get the impression from Laviolette's pressers that he has an open mind and will try different things out and make guys prove it or lose it- within reason. He seems to really emphasize that the initial pairings are just a first look but that he reserves the right to switch things up again at any moment if he thinks a change is warranted. So, if Schultz - Dillon doesn't work out, I would think he'd give Shultz - Orlov a look next. They did hand pick Shultz for a role in the top 4 though and at $4 mil AAV, I certainly hope they were right.

Ding ding ding —- And we have a winner!!!!!

Cue the confetti and balloons!!!

this was always my top grouping. I’d like to see if Spring can battle Hathaway, but that’s fodder for the season as it rolls

with such a condensed schedule and Covid im sure Sprong and other extras will get plenty of games.

I’m really excited to watch hockey and get the season going but really suspect on how Samsonov-Copley will be, anyone else feel the same? Anderson looked rough in the scrimmage, not that he was someone who was a lock
