so...without ov glasses ov is just a pp one timer and otherwise brings nothing. seriously? LOL

Not quite. But his 5-5 play is certainly not consistent AND he has a tendency to make dumb plays that, even when they don't end up being goals for the other team, cost the Caps a lot of unnecessary time in their own zone. These things add up over the course of a game, and, even when he scores some points, he tends to negate the positives he brings with the negatives. He doesn't make the "smart Hockey play" far too many times, and, that is what a Captain should do.

Is that really the only problem you see?

the only problem? no but they should have won in tampa and didn't because of the goaltending. the 2nd and 3rd goals against in this game were bush league shots. having a 3 1 lead disappear like that can knock a lot of teams on their a$$

It's not new. They've blown a 2 goal lead in a game about 5 times this season. Some things just never change.

Someone is going to point at the final score and say we only lost by one. That had it not been for the refs, we'd have won. That it was a hot goalie.

Meh. This outcome was expected, at least for me. Like I said, I don't have confidence in this team.

I have to start questioning if this is a systematic problem. Every loss is the same. We seem to fall apart in 2nd and/or 3rd period. There must be something opponents are seeing that allows them to take advantage. At this point, that trend has to suggest something right?

Why can't we generate any odd man breaks? In Bruce's heyday, that used to be our bread and butter. The transition game. The 3 on 2s, the 2 on 1s. Thats where we scored, and that is probably what majority of our players are good at. We don't see any of that anymore.

They just don't play a team game. Other than Nicky, I don't think any of our forwards are even looking for someone else. Everyone seems to want to make a play. Its a bunch of individuals playing hockey rather than a team.

Yuck, this loss is as bad as it gets. These guys got demolished by the hapless Hurricanes last night.

I should also add that I'd be okay if they completely dumped Peters and brought up Grooby. Have Holtby and Grooby battle it out. See if one sticks.

usually its not because the goalie is giving up goals that nhl goalies don't give up. the decision was to get a backup goalie rather than have to number capable goalies. well..backup goalies suck

There are far too many problems with this team than many on here are willing to admit. Ovechkin takes the brunt of the hate because as he goes, so does the team and that's not how it should be. Our roster depth is amongst the worst in the league right now. Take off Ovechkin & Backstrom and it looks weak. As much is I like Burakovsky, Kuznetsov & Wilson, they are 3-4 years away from developing in NHL ready players. The majority of our offence is littered with slow grinders who have little to no skill. I miss the old days. I don't care if we weren't the best defensive team, but we were fast, skilled and could score. Now all that's changed is we still suck at defence, probably worse than before and we can't score anymore. Ovechkin, nor our goaltending are our problems. It would take a blow up to make this team right, or just wait it out until our prospects are developed. I'm going to blasted for this last comment, but if I'm Ovechkin right now, I ask fro a trade out. Things don't look to get better anytime soon. This isn't a panic post, but reality. We might go on a 3 game winning streak now, heck even a 10 game streak, but that doesn't change how flawed this team is.

Don't feel so bad guys, LA lost to CAR today
and Our team (DET) lost to BUF. So its a bad day :)

P.S.

I have Burokovsky in my Pool. Only played 7 min tonight? Injury?

I really like how consistent he has been.

Oh and funny posts I see on this thread complaining about the "captain" who got 4 points tonight.

coach sucks?? blame trotz?

Trotz doesn't suck. I like him. He's a solid coach. I wonder if this roster makeup allows him to deploy his system effectively though. Clearly something isn't working here.

If my team had won the cup twice in the last 3 years, I wouldn't care if they lost all 82 games.

Yes they lost badly and played like crap on the PK and in the 3rd. And yes, Ovie's fumble cost them dearly. But to all the haters, he had a 4 point night, including 3 primary assists and 2 in the final 5 minutes trying to spark a comeback late. He is one man. They win or lose as a team of 23.

Should we have tried to re-sign Halak for 2-3 years? Not saying I would've wanted that. Just seeing if some people think we should have at least tried to keep him for a year or two.

Don't think the team was that bad, peters just cost us the game with 6 mediocre to ****** goals, Holtby has been terrible lately as well. Not sure what should be done about that, you can either ride them out or call up Grubauer.

ChuckGormleyCSN: #Caps still have not opened room to media

Trotz must be lighting into them.
