Then why did Chicago get him for literally nothing?

His value is like a 2nd and 3rd, similar to what Lehner brought back. That's what Vanacek and a 3rd rounder is worth.

Vegas was in Cap Hell and had to move his contract. Chicago was one of a limited number of teams not on Fleury’s 10 team no trade list that needed a goalie and could take his deal without Vegas having to retain some of the money.

Caps obsessed with former Pens, we all knew it.

To be fair anyone who has won a cup in the last 6 years and still able to compete is welcome. Some of us want youth and speed in the lineup and new assistant coaches over MAF.

Fleury won 9 of the 32 wins in Pittsburgh’s latest two cup postseasons. He’s a career 0.913 workhorse with high variance. He’s apparently an excellent teammate and a wonderful person, but this was reminiscent of some of his playoff performances with Pittsburgh

Uh, when Crosby won his 1st Cup, former Cap Gonchar was on your Cup winning roster! On the '16/'17 teams you had former Cap Eric Fehr.

Just the 2016 team for Fehr. He asked for a trade off of the 2017 team and got it to Toronto. Probably because he was still exhausted from playing so many more playoff games than usual :sarcasm:

Vanecek and a 1st for Fleury(50% retention)

I think Hawks are going to have to choose between
A: valuable replacement goalie and
B: valuable futures.

They're unlikely to get both as very few teams can or will offer both.

Vanecek is a perfect piece coming back, and if the Hawks agree then they're not going to have much leverage to also get a first.

Hes half as expensive now.
Hes on a team that can retain.
Hes played extremely well on a much worse team
Urgency has been ramped up.

He's absolutely more valuable than he was in the summer.

Can a Caps fan fill me in? I'm a neutral fan, and don't see a lot of Washington. Why would they need a goalie with Samsonov and Vanecek?

Is Samsonov still the guy going forward?

Fleury is better right now and right now Ovechkin wants another cup.

Fleury has a history of melting down in high-pressure situations, won 2 of his 3 Cups from the bench, and had mediocre numbers for the one he won as a starter. Sounds like a pretty typical Caps retread to me.
