For me, its still the same two issues.

- Not enough right shot forwards on the team. This is a huge part of the reason why the PP isn’t great and why they can’t finish many plays at 5 v 5

- Goaltending. Mac has to get two of those in the 2nd. As someone else mentioned, the Ovi goal was hard to watch. Him not moving over or tracking the puck was awful.

Thought they played fine. It’s these things that keeps killing theme. I’d look to package some left shot forwards for a right shot. Also, get Holtz in the lineup.

What about goaltending? What do you do to stop the bleeding there?

Yes he is leading the team in points. But he needs to shoot the damn puck. Scoring goals is just as important as making saves. And you don’t score when you constantly pass the puck when you have a better shot.
If you don’t think Bratt needs to shoot the puck more instead of trying to make the pass virtually every time then I don’t know what else to say.
I don't care if he has 100 assists or 100 goals. He produces offense period. Saying he has "major issues that need to be addressed" is quite literally insane

If Bastian didn't score the only goal that really mattered or have an awesome first period I'd be tempted to think they sit him for Zetterlund too

I’m at the point where I want to trade almost anything for a good goalie. If Canucks go full rebuild , I toss out as much as we can for Demko. Only guys I wouldn’t - Hughes brothers , Nico , Bratt , Nemec, Mercer , Seigs .
I just don’t see Blackwood or VV ever being good enough to take us to the playoffs. I hope I am wrong.

The Blackwood stuff is almost like keeping someone on life support that you just need to let go. Or staying together for the kids, whatever. It's becoming insanity to expect him to get better, when he only gets worse over his last 60 games. The numbers just keep getting worse. Is he injured? Who the hell knows what's wrong with him, but whatever the case may be, we can't wait around to see if he's gonna get better. If he is injured (still) then he just ain't worth the investment anymore.

He really needs to be Samsonoved after this year. You can't bring him back after this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays well enough to be over .900% by season's end, but it probably won't be by much. Not enough to justify one more year at $3 million (or god forbid more than 1 year) while we're already paying another guy $3.4 million (who we still don't know enough about yet) and at the salary cap.

I think his only hope is going somewhere else at this point. It's getting UGLY at this point. Fans are already turning on him AT THE GAMES (and it's not me, I haven't been to any games this year) There needs to be a divorce. The sex in this relationship stopped A LONG TIME AGO, and at this point it's separate bedrooms and maybe even seeing other people. Time to end it after this year.

I wish we could end it now, but we don't have any more choices. Daws should NOT be up in the NHL again this year, neither should Schmid and Bernier might be even worse than this.

The only choice that we can try is to give Vanecek more starts. He didn't do anything to convince us he should get more starts with his lone start this year, but he needs a longer leash than Blackwood, who's gotten way too much to this point. One of these two is actually signed beyond this year and it ain't Blackwood.

Who the hell knows at this point. We've thrown every piece of shit we can at the wall and nothing is sticking so far. There is no obvious and easy answer since the truly good goalies almost never get moved, and those that do typically have some kind of baggage, whether it be age or contract or injury history. Hopefully Vanecek can get it going at some point, or Blackwood miraculously finds consistency (here's where Bleed says he has...he's consistently bad ).

But that’s the thing, we were not really the worse team over the entirety of the game..
We had a bad stretch but overall outplayed them but we can’t score and our golaie cannot make a timely save. Oh and our PP has not scored a timely or much needed goal in the last decade.
I agree but when it came to finishing, we stunk. I'm blaming everyone not named Marino. We need some muscle up front. I liked some of our play but man did Washington bully us around when they wanted to.

What's annoying to me is Ruff will dress Holtz tomorrow, and he won't score and Ruff will be like "see? He's not the solution" and scratch him again.

Holtz is definitely not the answer for 1 game. He needs to stay in the lineup.
Yeah if they do put in Holtz they'll probably stick him with McClod, then bench him after the first period again.

2nd in the league in shots per game and bottom 3rd in goals for
yeah which is, even by a bad finishing team (which I'm not sure we naturally are, even if we're not league leading), completely unsustainable. It will correct somewhat.

Meanwhile blackwood has been playing like this for over a season of regular work.

give me demko

If Fitz does go the Miles Wood route and signs Blackwood next year just to sign him cause he's an RFA and we have one more year of his rights, well he's getting fired. Book it. It's gonna get him fired. If he can't keep up then they need to leave him behind. Don't qualify him and let him to UFA. Some team will sign him for $1 million-$1.5 million just because he was good (by that point) 3 years ago and he's still just 26.

Unless somehow he floors it this season and actually finishes above league average. And even then I'd say one year at his qualifying offer and that's it.

You can't sign him another year if he doesn't produce this year, you just can't.

And I hate to use the Wood analogy, as I don't hate the Wood signing for one more year. But as I've said, bad goaltending (Blackwood) is going to hurt you much more than Miles Wood and it's gonna hurt you much more than any of the players or coaches that we like to complain about.

Just a brutal game from Bratt and Hughes.

I get that Hughes gets his shots and all that but he's not even close to dialed in right now and I'd argue hasn't been all season. Whether it's a cold or slow start or the double-shifting is wearing on him, he doesn't have it by his own standards.
