Hughes and Graves were bad, then a couple other glaring errors by some other players.

But the Devils scored 3 goals on 40+ shots and kept their opponents to 22. I think we've all forgotten what it's like to watch a goalie bail their team out when they're not playing their best. Blackwood does the opposite, he turns every miscue into a goal. A goalie that requires you to play perfect defense is not a good goalie.

Would have been easier to score the second goal if he didn't give up 4 in rapid succession in the 2nd period
He? Exactly my point. He didn’t give up four goals the devils did. Everyone continues to jump on him. The devils completely broke down that period. And “he” gave up the goals? Lol.

Still hoping Vanecek gets a good game in tomorrow and takes the job and runs with it

I didn't see the 2nd...but I can see the box score and Washington didn't get their 2nd until 9:16 of the second....so half of the game it was 1-1.

Good goalies don't have .871 sv%, sorry. No matter how terrible the team in front of them is.

This is the f***ing NHL, stop a PUCK
And the fact that every goalie that has played for the Devils the past three years has had better numbers when they played elsewhere is merely a coincidence.

Why would any goalie willingly want to play in New Jersey?

Eh Ruff is just defending the guy who was in there for the three-game winning streak. And tbh he's gotta back someone cause Vanecek looks f***ing hopeless too. We may be calling for Nico Daws' return by Friday if Vanecek sucks it up again tomorrow.

I don’t think he’s even defending Blackwood there, he’s basically saying all he can control is the defensive detail, not how many saves Blackwood makes

No, I'm not serious.

Yeah he's the goalie. Team didn't coddle him to a one goal night, but there's no reason he should have given up 5, and i'll die on that hill

And not scoring.
I get this isn’t a great finishing team. But they score enough to be good. They haven’t given up more than 25 shots against in a game all year.

Even with the good 3 game stretch Blackwood is sitting at an .871 sv%. That’s Chico Resch in the 80’s territory. Not nearly good enough in 2021.

BRatt made a bad pass. Bratt has been our best player to date this season. It happens.

Blackwood has not, and never has. Big difference.
Doesn’t matter how good Brett had been it isn’t an excuse to ignore the blame and put in on Mackenzie.
Bratt needs to shoot as much as Mackenzie needs to make a save. They both have serious issues that need to be addressed.

Tristan Jarry’s last 60 games in the NHL That’s 1 playoff game last year, he played 58 regular season games last year, so that’s 55 regular season games last year, 1 playoff game and 4 games this season. Tonight’s game isn’t over, so that doesn’t factor in.

919%.

Allows 4 goals in the 2nd period tonight, so he might be worth comparing to Blackwood? Really?

Even he‘s allowed 5 goals on 37 shots so far.

Blackwood’s 5 goals came on 18 shots.

Blackwood’s last 60 games = .891%. All of Brodeur, Schneider and Kinkaid are probably feeling a little better about the last 60 games they all played here right about now.

I’m pretty sure Jarry is better than Blackwood….
I dont that matters .. it’s a unique situation where the shots and opportunities against are high quality and I don’t thimk any average goalie makes those saves . Just my 2 cents.
I don’t think Blackwood is great. He is way too inconsistent. But I don’t think he was as bad as you are making him out to be in tonight’s game. I thnk we have seen this sing and dance for so long that we default to “goalie is shit “ too quickly.

If they give up 4 shots on goal against Blackwood there is a risk of 4 goals against. They didn't play well. That's why the goalie's there. Devils gave up one breakaway - fine, that's on the defense.

How anyone can defend Blackwood after goal #4 is just beyond me. He f***ing loses track of the puck without a screen. Meanwhile Lindgren manages to track that puck after Bratt makes the incredible pass out of the corner. Goaltending isn't just about reflexes, it's about anticipation, and Blackwood just does not have that. He is constantly back too far in his net, doesn't fight through screens, and that leads to what happens tonight.

Ya. He’s the goalie. But it’s funny how the whole team had a complete meltdown and you put the culpability on Mac. Got it.

Lol Bratt is among the lead leaders in points. He does not have "serious issues that need to be addressed"...that's nonsense.

He made a bad pass. He also scored a goal to make up for it.

Blackwood blows and always has. Big difference

He and several others have tried explaining this to no avail.

Up 5-1 in the NHL teams generally roll lines, giving less time to their better offensive players, and limit shooting chances to avoid counter attacks.

This is something straight numbers fails to consider but has been a significant factor in quite a few Devils' games in recent years.
Missing 5 goals on 17 shots usually can`t give you any chance to win. This is more strong argument.

Yes he is leading the team in points. But he needs to shoot the damn puck. Scoring goals is just as important as making saves. And you don’t score when you constantly pass the puck when you have a better shot.
If you don’t think Bratt needs to shoot the puck more instead of trying to make the pass virtually every time then I don’t know what else to say.
