He can make more than one big save... Lindgren certainly did.

Like, I understand that this team isn't perfect defensively and I acknowledged that the turnovers were bad, cause they 100% were.

I still don't understand the idea that every time there's a turnover or a bad play, the goalie is off the hook regardless of the goal. He can still make a save even if the scoring chance results from a bad play from the D. In fact, most goals scored in the league are scored off of mistakes/breakdowns. It just seems we rarely get those timely saves.

Oh this again. Please. Yea every goalie makes gigantic saves against this team and looks like Hasek.

The worst one I think is goal #4. Yes, it's Ovechkin, but Blackwood just doesn't track the puck, and he's late getting over and gets beat short side. It's not a long pass, and it's not a great shot. He just isn't in position. You cannot give up goals like that consistently, and Blackwood does.

When our guys can't convert on good chances: FINISHING

when our goalie can never stop a good chance against: DEFENSE

sometimes it's just goaltending, yo

My larger point was giving up 5 goals on the first 18 shots of the game is unacceptable. Obviously, if it is a 2-1 game going into the third it is played different. I understand butterfly effect. They at least have a shot in the game.

They played like crap overall in the first half and made awful turnovers. But 5 goals on 18 shots to that point is not NHL level goaltending. You of all people should no this.

They need someone to at least keep them into these type of games.
If they get the 2nd goal first or even second to make it 2-2 it's a different game....the offense has to do its job to elevate the pressure.... McKenzie just went 3 games with basically giving up a goal...I don't think it's reasonable to asking him to bail out poor play.

Think you have to mix up the top 9 going into tomorrow and scratch Smith and go with a typical 12-6. I'd like to give Mercer some time on that 3rd line that was really clicking but don't want to promote any of them. Wood played better tonight than some of the previous games so not sure a demotion to the 4th line is justified. Either

Bring Holtz into the top 6, Mercer 3rd line, Wood 4th line

or

Just slot Zetterlund into the 4th line

It's fair to say the offense needs to be better AND the goalie needs to be better.

Wasn't even thinking of them. Think Smith was hampered by playing with Severson.

Mercer and Hughes (-3) and Sharangovich and Hischier (-2) are not likely to sit nor is the aforementioned Severson (-2).

lmao

I missed the part where any of us think Blackwood is a good goalie. I think all of us agree he isn't. But dumping all the blame on him is just so dumb and old.

find one (1) post where people are dumping ALL the blame on him? No one is.

Lots of bad play tonight. Would be nice if our goalie bailed us out one time when we weren't playing that great. I know, too much to ask for I guess.

It's only dumb and old because he's still starting 5 of 6 games for us to start the season despite sucking!

I don't like this any more than any of you! I don't want to hate on our goalie but facts are facts.

Ya Blackwood didn’t make the saves we needed but I don’t pin this one on him. The turnovers were brutal and the scorimg chances against were prime chances.
I think any average goalie lets this in as well.
Last thfee wins we capitalized when we needed to and got saves when we needed them. This game… we could not finish , our PP let us down again , and we didn’t get timely saves on our mistakes.

This is exactly what I have been saying. Goal timing matters guys. There's a psychological aspect to the game. The snowball effect is real. With that being said, goaltending could and should be better, but the offense has been equally as bad if not even worse than the goaltending. Those third period meaningless goal dont mean shit. They need to start scoring when it matters. This is getting very concerning

Bratt makes an awful turnover on goal #3. Can't happen. Goal #1, not great either. Other three are stopped by a good goalie. He's f***in bad. The reason why 'it gets old' is because he's not good enough.

But seriously though, besides Jack we have no one that has even sniffed 30 goals before. Not one 30 goal guy. We have playmakers out the ass but no one that has ever scored more than 30 goals in their life in the NHL. That’s a little bit concerning.
I wanted Tarasenko soooooo when they ended up with Tatar
