Started a bit slow, and is picking up steam nicely. They are progressing the story better than I hoped for. The books were immense.
I'm on book 10 in my final read through. This was the farthest I got on the book side.

Digging the second season also. Always tell when I'm annoyed I have to wait a week. Looks like there will be no Rand the poligamist. Especially if it will remove Faile from being in the show.

Any movie recommendation in the quirky sci fi vein of Lobster/Her/Dont Worry Darling/I Am Mother/Spiderhead/vivarium/palm springs?

-------

fiction recommendation? I really need a book

Yes….on Prime……currently almost done with season 2.

One of the best sets of books I ever read.

They sure did Aviendha well though…..I read Faile would be introduced in season 2 but it changed to 3.

Finishing up S6 of GoT. I’ve heard Seasons 7 & 8 stink so I’m bummed that I’m about through the best of it but it’s been a fun show to watch. It’s surpassed my expectations.

There are still a bunch of pretty epic scenes in 7 and 8. While the overall writing suffers, there's still a lot to enjoy. Spoils of War S7E4 being one of my favorite episodes ever. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms S8E2 is also pretty low key great.

Don’t listen to the overly critical. It’s all fine and enjoyable. It must suck to go into such a grand viewing adventure thinking it’s all going to suck at the end.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a terrific episode, truly the last "great" episode of GoT (although I don't hate episodes 4 onward as much as others).

I can tell you that they're not as good, but I can also tell you that you're going to enjoy them way more from your perspective than anyone who watched in the weekly format.

Like, if Season 8 of GoT was just a batch release on a streaming service it would still be reviewed poorer than other seasons for some very good reasons, but people wouldn't also have a full week between each one to diagnose what happened in a fan base full of people who loved digging for all the little things and theorizing all the time anyway.

It's sort of like how movies throw a bunch of shit at you to make you forget about things like time. Remember how the Dark Knight prisoner transport scene starts in the evening with a pretty blue sky and plenty of daylight, they go into a tunnel and fight a little, and then suddenly it's night time? Streaming GoT is like that trick but with the content itself, the faster you consume the exciting parts the less you'll sit and think about all the parts that don't add up.

This was stripped of any character/narrative info but I think it does a good job illustrating the point
One character ends an episode riding away on a white horse, and then opens the next episode walking around the same place scrambling around on foot with the horse nowhere to be seen, and I think it literally never comes up again. That's not good writing or continuity, but you also won't spend a week wondering who sent the horse or what the horse means symbolically so it probably won't irritate you in the same way when you can just start the next episode

Went to the library and holy hell are those WOT books huge and many. Got the first one .. hopefully I get sucked into it.
It’s the biggest reading commitment I’ve ever made. Best part is you don’t have to wait for any books.

Another similar favorite is The Sword of Truth series….Terry Goodkind.

Everyone I've ever talked to has said you need to make it a couple books in for the series to really get good, and considering the size of those books, I've passed on the concept of reading 2000+ pages until the good stuff starts.

Books 1-3 were fantastic. IIRC there were several in the middle you could skip and just read the synopsis. I read the series a number of times over the years. I learned to eventually skip chapter regarding Faile, Perrine, and a few others in the middle.

The two seasons as a TV show were not bad either.
Really? I thought the first season of WoT was some of the worst television I have ever seen. Like, there's immensely disappointing but not outright bad TV (later GoT, Rings of Power, Star Wars TV, etc) - and then there's truly bad television - and the Wheel of Time series definitely fell into the latter.

Was talking about the Terry Goodkind Legend of the Seeker (Sword of Truth) series.

On book 11 now. Bloat not quiet as bad now that all the books are out but man for those reading and waiting between books it sucked so bad.

Kinda how amazing how many awful female characters or even the ones that are mostly good will go through being serious arrogant assholes. Aes Sedai...terrible, the Aiel Wise ones almost as awful, and the seafolk women are the worst.

Man, WOT S2 certainly went out with a bang! I can’t say I understood everything that happened this season (I read a couple of the books as a kid, but have no real memory) - but much better than S1.

They really up’ed the production value and packed in some GOT-level spectacle for this finale.

Yeah S2 finale was pulled off well. Thought the Moirane/Lan scenes were excellent. The weird fight between Rand and Ishmael in the books was always weird so the TV adaption was welcome for me.

So the shadar logoth dagger being used as a spear point points towards the events in the Aiel holy place will be skipped. I assume the dragon tattoos on the arms/hands will be done in a different way. If there is a S3 assume it is Tear/Sword That Is Not a Sword

Castlevania: Nocturne is terrific, a dazzling 8 out 10 for me. 8 out 10, because there are a lot of characters to keep track of, perhaps one too many. Other than that though, its great: the story is riveting, the animation is breathtaking, and the action is furious. Richter Belmont is more than a worthy successor to Trevor Belmont -- he's everything Trevor was, minus the alcohol and plus about ten Red Bulls, cocky as hell and a one-liner dispenser machine. Great start to what should be an awesome series!
