A few pages back i mentioned i requested a book Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy from my Howard County library. its been like a month plus. Walked up to it yesterday to check in thinking I missed some text alert that it was ready.

8.

There are 8 people ahead of me for this book I was told.

I went to find another book on shelf ... zero books from Elmore Leonard, zero books from Brett Easton Ellis and only copies of Cormac's new releases.

My huge, beautiful, well funded public library in one of the wealthiest counties in America .. and I cant find a decent read from well known writers?

Odd.
Unfortunately reading is a "dying art".

Haven't you seen all those morons wandering around staring at their phones? I've tried to understand what is so fascinating that it can hold their attention but it's beyond me. Give me a book any day.

Are there any second hand book stores where you live? Can probably find what you're looking for and will only be a few dollars.

Kindle version?

Just checked I have 757 books on Kindle.

I guess because of the Amazon series started an attempt to go through the Wheel of Time series (only made to book nine back in the day). Forgot how good book #4 was. Faile is the worst character.

Neil I'm sure it seems like I singled you out but really not sub-posting here. I love public libraries I still remember all the formative fantasy and sci-fi books in my teen age years that were truly formative. I'm at time with my earning level that I can pay for things where 20 years ago I would have had a far more deference in opinion.

Also for what it is worth the single best moment of my life was parked in an Arlington, VA public library parking lot in a 2001 VW GTI vr6 with the love of my life in the passenger seat saying that she loved me for the first time.

Also I ended up running my battery down there I had to call in a jump which was not a story teller end but somehow OK.

Kindle is definitely convenient but I’m a sucker for physical copies of books. There’s something about holding a book and turning a physical page that I find foundational to enjoying reading for me. I spend so much time in front of screens for work and life that the last thing I want to do when I sit down to read is stare at another screen.

I'm a huge hard back book guy so much so that I have about a third of my long dining room table taken up by stacks of hardbacks. If it something I really like I'll go hard back.

Plus many of the paper backs I own have beautifully illustrated covers (ie. the Sci-Fi / Fantasy books). Who knows in the future they could become collectors items.

Of course I grew up with the mass majority of hardbacks. Wasn't till I finally started working as a teen I could afford hardbacks. Paper backs really age and get beat up so never really appealed to the collector dna that I have a bit.

Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher are scabs and please no one watch their shows. Drew seems to already back tracked after being canceled. We will not forget you crossed the line

Also Bill Maher is an unfunny bigot so please never watch his show for that reason!

My gripe wasnt a money thing (I have money, books, many book shelves filled w books I havent touched in decades), when I do add books now its art and graphic books.

it was an odd observation ive been observing for a few years now .. huge well funded beautiful library with a zillion books about a zillion things, 29 copies of "how to knit in the dark" .. but they dont seem to carry books from well know fiction authors?

Weirder yet .. theres certainly a demand. Im the 8th person in line for one copy of one book.

Im not a book guy. I read maybe 3 books a year.
-------------------

Death of Dick Long - a black satire comedy movie that was Letterkenny-esq (albeit much darker, not as intentionally funny) first half then gets real and kinda loses what little mojo it had going for it. Really good acting though.

Goodtime - Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie .. it was meh. bad version of a Soderbergh/guy movie.

Catlevania: Nocturne coming out on Netflix, September 28 (next week). I loved the first Castlevania series, and this one appears to be in the same vein. Here's the synopsis:

As revolution sweeps France, Richter Belmont fights to uphold his family's legacy and prevent the rise of a ruthless, power-hungry vampire ruler.

Just..just plug it into my veins, baby! I can't wait!

Love that series…

The original series was set for 7 seasons but then the head writer Warren Ellis got into legal trouble and they were forced to drop him after Season 3. They then decided to cut the series to 4 seasons after his departure. That's why the first 3 seasons were jaw-droppingly great, while the last season felt rushed and unsatisfying.

For Castlevania Nocturnet they have a dedicated writer (Clive Bradley) with a good rep. I expect great things from this series.

Even the brief glimpses of the new one seem quality. Will definitely check it out.

Two more Untold’s down…..Jake Paul and Hall of Shame. Both fascinating looks at their subjects.

I dislike Jake Paul a little less today.

And wow on Balco and the number of big name athletes that used them. The gubmint really donked up that case….42 counts, 2 convictions….4 months in prison. The amount of actual illegal drugs moved through there was well below the minimum documented sentencing guidelines…lol….

Harley Quinn Season 4 is an absolute riot! IGN gave it a 7, its nowhere near a 7, easily a 9, and a couple of the episodes are pure 10s. I haven't laughed this hard since some of the original Simpsons episodes in the early 90s. I definitely recommend -- sheds a whole new light on some of your favorite DC heroes and villains!
