Generally always been a Lynch fan but some of movies not a huge fan of. Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart I've always liked.
I'm a Lynch fan. Especially his more surrealist stuff exploring traumatized people escaping into dreams/fantasies. (Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks + FWWM.) Which makes it ridiculous that I still haven't gotten around to watching Inland Empire yet.
I often refer to Lost Highway as my #1 movie that everyone hates (including many Lynch fans) but I'll always go to bat for. Because--despite its many faults (I don't even think it's actually a "good" movie)--I like how it handles its subject matter, including the lack of any clear explanation as to what the hell is going on (even though the general concept is *relatively* simple and makes plenty of sense once you dig deep enough). By comparison, Mulholland Drive--which covers a lot of the same territory, but is widely acknowledged as a much better film than LH--has a tacked-on ending that's basically like, "Okay, here's what actually happened, hope that clears everything up." (This is due to the movie originally being written as a tv pilot that didn't get picked up, so the ending was added to make it work as a feature film.)
I also love Twin Peaks (despite its flaws). In particular, I love how S3 really upended a lot of what had been established/accepted/discussed in the first two seasons and film 25 years earlier.
Basically, I really like Lynch, the weirder the better, and I can forgive his excesses because they're exactly the kind of excesses I enjoy.
