TLOU -- so where are all the infected monster things? Where is the military? Why are the unaffected living in those quarantine militarized prison areas .. apparently you can just go live in the forests.

Avatar - in imax 3d was an insane movie experience, the plot/storyline sucks but the images are surreal

I drooled a few times

I watched the first avatar again the other day and still don't understand why it was so critically acclaimed. It remains the highest grossing movie of all time after 14 years

I love my dry dark comedy satire indies on a european film budget with character development and story arc that is shot entirely inside a studio apartment using an hand held I phone 6 blah blah blah

But the big screen, sound effects that rumble and reverberate in your chest, a screen so big you dont even see the edges ... I lost myself at times on saturday. I was not on this planet. I was immersed.

That movie experience on saturday took me.

When I say I drooled .. I mean literally. Twice.

That 3d .. those underwater scenes .. it was next level.

Such an awesome wild movie experience. if the speaking was muted but sound fx still there? even better

I can’t say enough how much I like Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

From episode 4 last night:

She absolutely nailed all of the No Pun Intended scenes.
Best HBO show in a long time maybe since true detective s1 and I don’t even like video games.

Ha ha I watched avatar two on the Disney app on a regular TV at home and thought it was long and awful. I feel bad for people who spent 3 1/2 hours in the movies for that with no pause button.

Their chemistry is through the roof in this episode, her range is blowing me away a little. I feel like she has multiple organic reactions this episode that feel so real they seem unscripted even though I’m sure they’re not. Just makes the character work right now, it’s not over the top or too muted, seems fun and real

Last few minutes of the episode were so wholesome and pleasant

I'll try and catch up with TLOU tonight.

Re: Avatar I mean I watched the first one a bunch of times since it is still just amazing to watch. Guess this is the power of JC and pushing the technical side of film making that can make someone like me that is generally pretty critical though admittedly I am a bit biased on the sci-fi/fantasy front. Looking forward for the 4k bluray. That said probably will have some regret not seeing the 3d version despite not being a huge fan of 3d.

TLOU -- so where are all the infected monster things? Where is the military? Why are the unaffected living in those quarantine militarized prison areas .. apparently you can just go live in the forests.

You've seen where the infected are, in population centers where people were concentrated (thus giving them new people to infect and continue the infection).

You've also seen what's left of the military. FEDRA, the organization that was running the Boston QZ is one such example.

You've also seen why people are living in the QZs, from both perspectives. People flee to the QZs for safety (from the infected and from the outside raiders like those depicted attacking Frank's compound). There's also resources and some of the closest things to civilization inside the QZs. Additionally, once you're inside the QZ, FEDRA doesn't let you leave. That's the whole bit about Joel, Tess, and Ellie having to sneak out of the QZ (and why Joel and Tess' skills as smugglers were valuable). This is also why they've shown groups like the Fireflies trying to overthrow FEDRA in Boston, and this other group who successfully did so in Kansas City (Pittsburgh in the game). Are there some people living outside of the QZs in the forests or their own compouds? Yeah, but the vast majority of people aren't survivalists. Most people don't last in the wilderness, especially not for 20 years. That's why you saw Frank begging for help (just 3 years into the infection) at Bill's gate, and why the rest of Frank's group had died during their trek from Baltimore to Boston (and as Frank explained, the Baltimore QZ had collapsed).

Hive - thanks for the recap, you filled in my blind spots nicely. By 9m on Sunday I am usually half asleep watching this.

Do you think season 1 will end where the first game ended? Are we on pace for that?

Wish I had a f***ing PS ... none of the good games are on x box.

-----------------------------------

Really wish the Caps had a game tonight. I have zero obligations.

Deciding btw movies Coda and All Quiet Western Front for tonight

One of my bucket lists is to watch every Best Picture winner and Ive been avoiding Coda.

I’m with you man…I see people trashing the movies and don’t get it other than some of us aren’t as hardcore syfy as viewers like us…..

Me…..I see JC and incredible special effects wrapped around a typical syfy story…..and I consume that like candy.

I avoid movies like that a lot…I know they’re going to be good, but can’t muster up the effort. Coda….was really good. AQWF bored me at times…but still decent….

All Quiet was good but if you’ve read the book you know how it ends. Don’t want to spoil it so I’ll just leave it like that. I liked it a lot though, I think it did the book justice.

Separately, this looks incredible. Can’t wait.

I enjoyed last nights episode but thought it as a bit too predictable, and what was up with that giant clicker? Homie was huge
Was Henry in the game?

That "giant clicker" is actually a bloater. They're basically boss monsters in the game, and some of their game abilities are joked about in episode two (tearing off chunks of spores to throw at players).
Yes, although the whole KC resistance movement was an invention for the show. Henry and Sam in the game are basically just a mirror of Joel and Ellie

Just finished "Legend of Vox Machina Season 2". Mind. Blown. Didn't think they could live up
to Season 1, but they just didn't just live up to it, they might have topped it. Vax's story especially
is just amazing. Please, please let there be a Season 3.
