Judging by his hairline probably not

He had pretty cool hair. He lost it shockingly fast lol. Genetics are a bitch to some guys. These photos are one year apart.

I've had long hair (like halfway down my back) all my life and my temples have been creeping back for a few years so I feel for him lol.

Lets just say that you have nothing of particular note to say. Tell you what. Go live in 10 countries, travel to 80+, and then live amongst one foreign population for 5+ years. Maybe you can put your excellent observational skills to use with societal observations.

Try living amongst the Dutch during covid. See how much their self interest and yours align.

See how your opinion of someone changes when they are covid positive, pre vaccine, and come and take off their mask to talk to you at 0.5m away because "their voice is muffled". Many times over.

See how your opinion of a country changes when you hear multiple people remark how the escalation of the Ukranian-Russian war and hosting of Ukraine refugees is a "good thing" because "Ukranians are good workers".

Tell me how you would feel when you see people commenting in public that the reason we have rats and seagulls in cities is because Muslims are feeding them food that cannot be eaten otherwise.

Tell me how you feel when a city instrumental to the slave trade and atrocities of the Dutch East India company refuses to issue an apology for slavery.

And how would you feel if more than 50% the population of a country that was built on the backs of coercion, violence, slavery, intimidation, and economic exploitation thinks they should not issue an apology for slavery in 2024? Why? "because, then, we might have to pay reparations if we admit fault"

Maybe you'd like to dress up in blackface and red lipstick for Christmas to mimic Santa's "helper" who "is now covered in soot because he came down the chimney"?

TELL ME HOW YOU FEEL when 30% of the Dutch population votes for a climate change denialist when 1/4 the country is below sea level because he is also anti-foreigner, and is going to "deal with the muslims".

Maybe you prefer to have your racism institutionalized at a federal level where algorithms go after those with Arabic last names for 'tax-fraud', uprooting tens of thousands of lives with 'tax fraud charges' that are ultimately proven to be baseless?

Maybe you think it's totally acceptable that a superior at work comments that an Asian colleague doesn't need sunglasses while working at sea on a sunny day because their eyes are almost closed already?

I liked every Dutch person I ever met, which was several hundred, before I moved to the Netherlands. Safe to say that impression presented by individual/small group of Dutch abroad vs behaviour of Dutch in the Netherlands is a vastly different story. My impression of Dutch society has been greatly downgraded since living in it.

Amsterdam is a cool city, but it's also not the entirety of the Netherlands, believe it or not.

I'm also well aware of when Sprong moved to Canada. You form a lot of life-long habits from your associations and nature/nurture in the first 8 years of your life.

I hope he succeeds, but I expect to see relatively constant offensive effort and decent progressing to lazy defensive effort every 10 games followed by a scratch or other 'message-sending' event.
Im Dutch. Your observations don't surprise me at all. The Dutch are hard asses. Maybe the biggest hard asses in Europe. Thats just the way it is.

As for Sprong, I hope his speed makes up for the Kuzmenko in him.

Not my assessment of Sprong as one of the league's best 'value contracts'. That's the assessment of the 'Daily Faceoff' website. And oh by the way, Hoglander also makes their list for obvious reasons.

Research....research....research. For posters it's not hard to do, if you understand how to use 'Google'.
VanJack finally claps back, nice to see some emotion on these boards

It's quite telling that you equate both conscious and unconscious assholery with being a hardass.

I hope Sprong succeeds, but like others have pointed out, he's a player that looks like he was built by sliding the 'skill' sections to max and then filling in all the other attributes with whatever is left over.

There are two things jd22 can't stand in this world:
1 - People who are intolerant of other people's cultures.
2 - the Dutch.

You might think that the disparity between different Dutch people he experienced would have taught him to not lump them all together by nationality but no, by age 8 poor Daniel Sprong was doomed to a life of false-superiority.

Had young Daniel been liberated as a baby or a 2 year old, might he have made it or is Dutch simply a contagion of the blood? Should we be concerned he might infect the Canucks good Canadiens boys or fair-haired Swedes with his Netherculture?

Are there other nationalities of players that our team would do better to avoid?

In the words of Tocchet, Sprong has 'had a good camp'. But his defensive zone coverage is still a 'work in progress' according to the coach.

If he can succeed in teaching this guy how to play on the defensive side of the puck, he'll have to use all of his 'coach of year' skillset. There's a reason why Sprong is on his sixth team in six seasons.

Most of this is common to north/west/developed Europe (can’t speak to Scandinavia, but it is certainly France, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria). It’s also Italy, which is ironic because some of those countries are also racist against Italians. It’s also a bit of the UK; I mean they left the EU because of immigration issues.

It was hard living in these countries (Paris for me) during COVID but you have to see the good too - like the food, ease of travel, and healthcare. I’d also say potentially safer if you’re white and live in a nice neighborhood - which is also something you could say for nearly the entire world. I struggle to identify other places where you can buy multi-million dollar real estate just to look at bums. drug dealers, and gang activity on your corner (maybe California, but I never lived in the U.S.)

Everywhere has pluses and minuses and if you’re going to criticize one place, you should also look objectively at your own culture, which I assume is Canadian.

While we’re certainly more inclusive and less racist, we’re just as arrogant, but in a much more preachy way. For example, it’s pretty easy for us to criticize others when we live in a country that is naturally highly immune to illegal immigration.

What I really dislike is how unnecessarily complicated we make everything. While we’re polite, it’s very superficial and we’re super passive aggressive. Like any northern developed country, we are generally cold, individualistic people with few deep connections and weak family units. We’re also so obsessed with not being the U.S. we’ll never do anything to meaningfully reform healthcare or address crime. As someone with young kids, these are important considerations for me.

Of course I’m speaking in very general terms and relative to other countries, there’s plenty of exceptions for everything I mentioned.

In sum, I’d go back to live in the European countries listed despite the drawbacks.
