SJS making all sorts of interesting bits at very low cost. Gasseau seems like what you'd hope for in a 4th/5th rounder that has developed well.

Gasseau is a California kid who told Boston he wasn't signing and has connections to a bunch of SJ's other young players. Seems like a micro Adam Fox situation they were able to take advantage of here.

Then the management group should package the Minny 1st, SJ 2nd and Canucks 2nd and move up.

We want as close to as NHL ready prospect or player as possible. Do not rely on our team to do the development of anybody past 15 OA

Byram for 1 year will have more games played for the Canucks than the 24 OA. Guaranteed.

Guaranteed revenue is better than forecasted revenue that misses 90% of the time.

Betting against the Canucks is easy money when it comes to player development.

Hell, Bryam at next years TDL will probably get us a prospect that’s better than what we will do with the 24th.

This is a tough way to evaluate, because if they were traded then you have to see who they were traded for, and if your GM is Jim Benning then it's really not a fair way to evaluate.

True. I was mostly curious as the development time for a player in the late first round is going to far more delayed than a top 15 pick. Those players typically end up hitting their peak and being moved/signed elsewhere as they are closer to their free agency.

Next season is about finishing bottom-3 in the NHL, not sabotaging that by loading up on impact blueliners approaching UFA.

Player development has been excellent in recent years, FWIW.

Bryam next TDL will get us a better prospect developed by another organization than the 24th developed by the Canucks

And keeping him will get us a player vs a pipe dream.

the canucks have even got over 600 games and nearly 500 points (so far) out of a guy they took 23rd, too.

If he has been telling his agent he wants to play in Vancouver, then other teams aren't going to trade for him knowing he's going to sign here anyways. Also, if you know you can get him on a "hometown discount" deal, giving up some assets isn't as hard to stomach.

As much as Byram theoretically might like to play in Vancouver, I doubt he's chomping at the bit to play on a team just starting a rebuild.

I'm happy to kick the tires next summer if he's available in UFA but trading for him now is honestly absurd. And doubly so because there's so much overlap with Buium.

If they are wanting a dman with their top pick they could trade to 3rd and aquire something from van. Then trade the 3rd to calgary/nyr depending on who offers more for malholtra.

I would assume the trade would come with a long term deal.
