I... don't like that for Colorado? Drury seemed like a good fit for the Avs and was a much better player than Svechkov last year who was pretty inconsistent until going on a nice little run in the spring. L'Heureux seems like not much more than a fringe player at this point unless I've been really missing something.

Drury is an RFA and probably going to get paid more than L'Heureux and Svechkov combined, which Avs have no cap, so it kind of makes sense on their end.

Basically getting two 23 year olds that can still grow their game out for their bottom 6 on low cap hits for one guy who will probably get $3M+

That makes sense. I never thought much of either of those Preds players but it's not a team I watch obsessively so maybe there's some untapped potential there.

Yeah, I don't get why everyone is saying the Canucks need to retain salary on Petey. They should just hold their ground and say they'll only take back a cap dump instead of retaining for 6 more seasons

I think it was more to fit him for some teams but would obviously cost that team more. Really depends on the offer.

Me neither, the Avs are taking a calculated bet that there is some untapped potential in them. Both signed cheap for the next two years and both are RFAs after to be extended or traded to continue the cycle.

SJ essentially has draft capital lead by #9 and prospects. Not really much they can trade off their roster outside of like Toffolli. Bystedt/Musty probably lead the way, maybe Graf. Don't think those would interest BUF/TOR very much for #4 or Knies.

Could see Knies for #4 + Quinn or something.

so leafs trying to compete for playoffs next year will have 2 top 10 picks if they trade knies to buffalo (1 and 4) and SJ going for playoffs too have 2 (2 and 9)
while pure seller canucks havent done nothing yet

Target Seattle's no. 7 pick for combination of vets and 2nd rounders( im sure seattle wants to go for playoffs next year) then canucks will have 3 and 7 (EP40 might waive to seattle sinces its close and no crazy media to hound him)

They're not able to pay Drury going forward. They clear him and get a replacement bottom-six center in Svechkov (a guy I've liked going back to his draft year).

No, it's that they can't afford to give Drury a raise.

Svechkov is the replacement 4C, and perhaps still has some upside/development runway.

Would basically put them back in the "probably not drafting Stenberg at #2" camp again.

Unless its Knies for the #2 overall, and the Leafs can then choose a McKenna/Stenberg combo or go with McKenna/Reid.
Walking away with Knies and Rudolph or Smits is still a HELL of a day

Like the Colton trade, CMAc doing his old buddies a favour. He might just be a plant. NSH is gonna be COL's farm team and/or dumping ground.

COL clears cap space again. Get a guy who can be a bottom-six center in Svechkov.
Would be funny if it turns out Sakic was actually the brains of the operation in Colorado.

Sharks trading the 2nd for Knies would be the most chaotic thing that could happen. No idea what the Maple Leafs would even do with the 2nd pick.

Unless he asked for a trade out, I have no idea why the Leafs would trade Knies in the first place.
