Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, & Fantasy GM | Chaos Week

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Do you guys think Ottawa would give up a late first for Debrusk?

It feels like quite a few teams actually are interested in him. That late scoring binge he went on seems to have salvaged his value, I can see teams convincing themselves that he's a decent-to-good player stuck on a bad team (Which is probably true, although he was majorly disappointing too)

If he'd be open to waiving his NMC to go to any playoff caliber team, I can see him returning a late first.

They shouldn’t but they might. He can help net front on their PP, and I’m sure he’ll get butter soft minutes at ES with the Pinto + Stutzle lines taking the hard matchups.
This might be the draft to do something like that...talent really starts to thin out around that point in the draft and Debrusk is a relatively known commodity on a reasonable cap hit in a very weak UFA market.

A real binder fantasy.

Ottawa trades all three first round picks for EP40 and Debrusk and they still have cap space. Or two picks for Boeser and Debrusk if Boeser would waive.

Ottawa will have a big need now. Debrusk would help a bit. Who else could the Nux have that could help?

Confirmed the picks are in play

We still need to get to the cap floor so can't just trade everyone away.

DeBrusk should be gone at a minimum.

EP40 if the price is right and salary coming back.

Boeser likely stays but if a team gets desperate, could cash in. Salary comes back on that deal as well.

Bring in Gallagher but only if getting compensated. Not paying for that.

The available options to teams is embarrassing.

Hope that makes it easier to trade for the Nucks and they capitalize.

Does Byram for EP40 hold any water? I know the Canucks have wanted Byram for a long time, and EP40 already has the thousand yard stare required for long term exposure to Buffalo.
I don't really see why the Canucks would even bother trading for Byram at this point of the rebuild. Plus EP40 would not waive for Buffalo.

Byram we can also just wait till next year FA if he truly does want to come home (he's reportedly looking for $10M+ AAV) and not waste assets.

Ideal moves this off season.

Debrusk dealt before draft for a mid-late 1st.

Gallagher + late pick (like a 4th) for future considerations

Acquire Lybushkin + another late pick for future considerations

Sign Malenstyn for the grit and speed

Re-sign Douglas

Sign Luke Schenn if we're not taking Lybushkin as a cap dump

Sign someone like Kerfoot to fill out the roster and flip late down the line

Ideally Hronek is dealt for a boatload of assets, but I doubt it happens

Ottawa has coveted Hronek for a while, I don't think this organization would do it but now would be the time to shop the guy - there's a pretty decent chance the Senators would put a godfather type of package for Hronek right now.

But would Hronek waive? Ottawa isn't in a great position right now. I know they just made the playoffs, but I feel like they're a team destined to be a tweener at best. Maybe sneaking in occasionally only to get bounced by Florida, Buffalo or Montreal every year.

Now if they did get Robertson, then I'd reevaluate that sentiment.

If the Canucks get their hands on the 25th pick the entire media and fanbase will be clamoring for the Ruck twins at 24 and 25

That's my concern...

I wouldn't be wholly against it. They are going to need more time but there is something special about them. Maybe Markus at 25 instead of 33/41 is leaving value on the board though.

I'd take either over Mathis Preston whom the fanbase/media is already clamoring for.

My dream scenario

I really don't see Hronek being traded this off-season so I think it's a waste of time to even entertain the idea. Maybe around the trade deadline things shift but at this point, he's staying put. His value won't decrease at all either so there's not a massive rush. If the key piece of the trade is a high draft pick, I'd rather it be in next season's draft.

I think it is fair to say Hronek HATES talking to the media. Three years of one word answers or as few as possible.

Canucks COULD be involved in a three way deal with any of six teams at the top and a few in the middle.

Yes, the sound bites while not exactly like the Canucks do ring of putting bandaids on a wound.
When something like this happened in Colorado near a decade ago Sakic did a mini rebuild or heavy rebuild.

Unfortunately many in this market still think in terms of today and not tomorrow.
The more realistic "window" to win starts in the first 8 years of drafting the top players, until they reach UFA status.

Burke's idea of using "net" pay for the cap really equalizes tax environments.

Another fallacy in this market is wanting the owners to leave the team along and not be involved.
Florida, Carolina, Boston, Montreal and numerous of the successful teams have ownership that is very involved and those that have mystery or absentee owners seem to struggle, see Buffalo, whose owner is only involved when the team loses firing people. Just about all the cup winners or teams playing for the cup have had very involved owners over the last 30 years.
