Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | You incurred Vector's wrath and broke the site.

Not even remotely close. The nightlife? It’s gone considerably down hill.
night life in North America outside of NYC has gone to shit since Covid.
The rise in crime…. the SRO’s being built without the actual resources or help needed to support the occupants housed there, the constant shrinking of funding towards public services, ideologues like Ken Sim in the council who have no idea what the f*** they’re doing.
This is a world wide problem also since Covid. You have no idea how bad it is in the states.
I don’t recall much about Vancouver’s socioeconomic change in the early 2000’s considering I wasn’t even here and I was still an ignorant pre teen/teen. And I don’t have the 90’s to reference either, but as I understand, Vancouver has gone downhill pretty much ever since the turn of the century, but ESPECIALLY, within the last decade.
Also this is a world wide thing, the wealth gap is crazy everywhere these days.

Montreal night life was pretty good last I was out there. Toronto’s scene isnt really my scene but that city is live.

I know people who still really love Nashville’s out and about life.

Heard good shit about scottsdale too

Comprehensive list of all places I’ve ever been to outside of BC

Disneyland
Cancun x2
Maui
Cabo
Calgary

Cancun is the f***ing best.

Pre pandemic Prague and London were pretty good if we are talking world wide. Never been huge into the scene here, did have good times in Montreal, but my style is different now. Don’t really want to party like the old days. Rather just grab a beer or something.

Sure

It just seems silly to get wound up if you know that's what he's trying to do. If he was doing this to Oilers' fans you'd probably think it was funny. I sure would.
I don't get that anyone is taking him very seriously, in fact quite the opposite. Posters are mostly pointing out that his takes lack substance and they're written more as click bait.

As for the team, yes, it does seem to have good bones (at least with Pettersson making an appearance), but are a couple of vertebrae short and maybe a radius and ulna as well.

There's no easy fix, but there are some picks and youth that can be moved, but the situation remains as it has been since management took over. There's very little room to maneuver, and almost everything they do has to work out. That's a very tough place to operate under, but so it goes.

Also, I don't think the expectations from posters talking about Ehlers or other top UFAs are in any way comparable to the expectations many carried last offseason. People legitimately felt due to the connections with the Pens, Guentzel would be a target that could sign with the Canucks. The discussion this year is mostly about who is available, not so much on the likelihood of them signing here.

Losing last seasons pickups, the Miller fiasco, Demko injuries, EP40 weirdness, Boeser's concussion, Guentzel signing elsewhere was one long and repeated beating to the team and the organization. Yet somehow there's still a team showing they can play well at times and hey, meaningful games in March lol.

I vacillate between no longer caring and having some degree of interest or morbid curiosity, wondering if they can't make this work. I think we all expected a step back this season, but I can't believe anyone forecasted this epic shitstorm. Somehow being a lifetime fan of this team didn't prepare me for this. Unreal.

You need to go to Europe my dude. Jaw dropping cities.

Don't I know it. I'd like to go busk there, but I haven't gained much traction out here and I won't play here. People are shit.

I want to go to the Brandenburg gates, drive the Autobahn, more than that...I want to go to the country, the proper country out in Scotland where my namesake lives and just f*** about and knock a pint or two back.

Alas, life, for now has other plans. It'll happen when it's meant to happen.

Vancouver peaked heading into the 2010 Olympics, and largely went to shit thereafter.

If Expo 86 was a plunge into the water of the world, the Olympics were a total header of the high diving board into the abyss.

We invited the world here in 2010 and they never left. I have no idea why we want them back so back, the Olympics. The IOC is a cancer. They attach themselves to a community, grow it unsustainably and f*** off leaving you to die.

At least cancer can't ask for more money while it's slowly killing you.

I could get into the more immigration-side of my disaffection but I'm afraid it could get deemed as maybe a bit racist.

All I'll say is the thing I loved most as a child of the late 90s, was the diversity. My classes regularly had many whites, yellows, browns, I don't really care. But we were all just people seeking to better ourselves. The Canadian way. Now, it's just....we bring the same two f***ing "shithole" countries culture here, ask them not to pack it in at the door, and wonder why we can't get along?

Out my way before COVID hit, you'd routinely hear of some house getting vandalized with anti-Taiwan or anti-CCP language. Like maybe once a week that would happen. Which for someone who hasn't been here for as long as my family has is ritual. Except it's not.

It's why I can't help but laugh and shake my head at the outcry over Palestine/Israel. It's not our fight. Let's not make it our fight. We aren't as well-equipped and most of us don't even understand why they are fighting anyways.

Which is to say, and I can't believe you guys went and got all political on me...I like my peas and potatoes separate.

If you come to Canada, please, pack your shit at the door. No one cares about where you came from or what wars you had. I don't give a shit about Palestine, Khalistan, China, etc. Either you are faithful to this land, country, and people, or quite harshly...f*** off back to where you came from and go fight that war and die in it, you f***ing cowards.

Sir this is a Wendy's.

I lived in Vancouver for 10 years. I was at game 7 vs Boston. I know more about Vancouver, good and bad, than pretty much anyone.

I don’t know…I love Victoria but it’s got some pretty massive problems.
Yes we do, stole the words right out of my mouth, we got lucky when we bought our house over 10 years ago just before the big boom in town in a good spot and now we can't wait to move out

I'm looking to move up north where there's much less population density.

I find myself in the city and don't like what I see...I drive to work and see at least 15 traffic violations on the way in and want to murder a third of the population to help the traffic cause...which is...a special kind of f***ed up. Is it wrong? Morally, yes. Traffic-wise, no.

I'd easily drive 30 more minutes on some god forsaken highway ready to be hit by deer, rather than some mook who drives a quarter of a million car mom and dad bought for them up some pedestrian stairs in Richmond.

Welp

I watched Blazers games in the Pac Coliseum

Had to wait at traffic lights at #1 and Hastings, and Cassiar or Adanac or both, who the hell remembers now

Was at ground zero when the twit dropped from the telephone wires in front of my feet to set in motion the '94 riot. Left downtown during the first period of game 7 in 2011 because I could see thecwritung on the wall. Most incompetent police planning and execution imaginable

Anyway, for me the seventies in Vancouver was paradise as a young kid growing up. Seriously, am going to be punished hard in my next life for all the fun I had as a kid here

Carry on you whippersnappers, and try not to trip over your velcro closure straps on your footwear that you aren't even able to slap together, god forbid you have to tie a shoelace. And while we're at it, thank your lucky stars you have smartphones with voice activated speed dial, if you had to call 911 on a rotary phone you'd never make it

Didn’t realize this turned into a Metro Van sucks thread.

I get it. I live in Vancouver and it’s a headache. People, traffic, construction, cost of living, etc.

But my dad has Parkinson’s and lives across the street. I wouldn’t move anywhere else because really don’t know how much time he has left nor what his condition is going to be as he gets older.

Anyway, I think mgmt needs to be very creative this offseason.

It’s pretty apparent given this thread has derailed given the same possible solutions keep getting brought up and people are bored.

Without any clarity on where the season is going or how the offseason will take place, it’s hard to have any real discussions. So many factors at play that have a huge impact on the direction of the team.

Shit, buddy. I'll pray for your dad. My parents are getting up there, and with their lifestyle, the minute they become less mobile will be a ton of work for me. Either me or the youngest is going to have to look after them, which is a shame because our kid is loads smarter than I could ever hope to be. But he lacks ambition. I hope it isn't him that burden falls upon, I was old enough to see and recall how hard that was for my dad to take in his mum into our home. He built a second house and attached it to ours for that reason. It's a heavy f***ing toll.

Family is all you can rely to fall back upon. I thank God every day I born into a strong one. Not as many are as lucky as us kids were.

Up north but on the island is nice.. simpler and quieter... and depending on what your trade/job is could be a good match

Well either the Canucks will win 7 games and solidify the WC2 spot or they are eliminated after this week.

Conversations will be all over the place, fire the coach, keep the coach at any costs, trade EP40 and keep EP40, then many fantasy FA acquisitions, lots of bandaid solutions, blow it ups, retools, trade proposals for older centers other teams have given up on or never took the next step, trade for picks, trade down for better picks, do anything and every thing to keep everyone on the team and expect something different than the last 9 years, why Hughes will leave and make the team a contender in 6 months so he stays, Hughes will get a large part of posts as fans finally realize that all the drafted players are leaving once they it FA status, the room is a wreck, the room is an Eden environment, the room doesn't matter, posters will change what they want according to what they are told to do by the owned media, a few will keep their opinions and be called bad names and defeatists for posting the standings, some will not bother watching good playoffs games and some will be "we were just that close", some will blame injuries in though the Canucks had the 5th fewest in the league, some will blame Miller, some will blame the weather none will blame the possible coach player disagreements, some fans will think star players are traded for and ignore where the Canuck stars were drafted, some will drink the "it takes ten years to rebuild" and it is guaranteed to be like Buffalo and ignore the last 20years of cup finalists where many tanked and/or did rebuilds for no more then 2/3 years.

There will be many different topics once either happens.
Lots of fair day fans, lots of marketing on the forums trying to form, lead fans into wanting to do nothing, Barzal is the answer even though he isn't, so many weird opinions.

for those that were mentioning offer sheeting Bourque.. rather try Mactavish first. Type of centre the team needs
