Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Much Ado About Nothing

This is what they will have to compete against to get into the playoffs.

Looks like an easy first out to me.

These are great, thanks for doing them. Do you use AI or anything or do you just listen and type?

Apropos of nothing.

AI is the stupidest invention on the face of the earth since the dumb phone.

If Boeser's term demand lowers his AAV to mid-low 7s or even high 6s, they should re-sign him. Sticking to a 3-4 year max term is a mistake. They have to get to 6 years at least.

The rising cap and the fact that he's pacing 31 goals even now means he is the most efficient option. All while being a good teammate.

Get it done Allvin.
Those numbers are ridiculously low, brocks next contract is starting with an eight.

Canucks don't really want to pay the 8x8, and we know Minnesota is going to give him whatever it takes july 1st, likely 8.5 or more on a seven year deal.
Only question is do we trade him as a rental somewhere, or directly to Minnesota for them to offer him the extra eighth year.

Grown ass adults acting like school yard toddlers. I work in a major org with folks I don’t get along with. It’s part of the job— you act professional and get the work done. You don’t have to be best of friends or otherwise. It’s infuriating that it’s gotten to this point as this team is better off keeping both then trading them.

It would be quite the unprecedented story if neither get traded and they work it out after this disaster class in PR/comms/optics. Can’t see it happening with the way Miller is checked in and out from game to game.

Is the dressing room that fractured that the players didn't realize that is was Karlsson's first career goal? It seems as if that is something teammates really are on top off normally.

This person was at the game apparently and mentions they did react. I wonder if Bukauskas is just talking about the whole no one grabbing the puck debacle.

Also apparently a pic of them at the game:

Yeah, he's specifically talking about on the ice and not getting the puck. I didn't even notice it and really don't think it's a big deal.

You could see in the video the linesman looks like he's trying to give the puck to someone and then ends up skating it over to the time keepers box to exchange the puck. I'm sure they were very excited he scored but nobody went to get the puck for him is a bit odd if they knew. Normally one guy is all over it on the ice racing to get it. Lol.

Technically, I see us as a big market, small market team. The penalties accrued from the Gillis/Benning regimes have hindered us the past 5 years which makes us have to manage the cap as a small market team would.

I kind of like that, but there will be huge turnover in doing so with your 'foot soldier' players...Suter, Blueger, the ever revolving 4th line, Desharnais, Forbort. All those guys are the heartbeat of the team, because our stars refuse to do the things these guys just do. Keep shifts short, making good line changes, hustling to the bench, moving their feet constantly, and communicate as well.

The way forward will be littered with these veteran reclamation projects and bargain bin finds. The first year went TOO well this way and priced some guys into weird contracts like Hronek, Joshua, Hoglander, and the weirdest one for me which was Heinen. We had a plan last year that worked so well Allvin might've flown a bit close to the sun.

Local kid, so you love the guy to death but he just has no place on this team with Hoglander firing at all cylinders. I don't think Allvin counted on that. Every team needs a maverick, but you know what? I think Hoglander can help Pettersson. Every time they get time together, it looks clunky but then they put together some great shifts. That line needs a second Brock Boeser to slow things down for Pettersson because Hoglander is a great player, but he does have the 'being chased by bees' syndrome and we need someone to reign the chaos in and be able to take some abuse to hold on to the puck for a bit longer to find Pettersson some space.

Just my $0.02.

I don't think that any of those guys have problem contracts. If the Canucks sign Lankinen and get EP2, Willander and Lekkerimaki into the lineup, they'll have about $11m to sign a top 4 left defenseman and Suter and Boeser replacements.

If I were the coach, I'd never put Hoglander in the top six. He can't play east-west hockey - all his skills are individual. But his individual skills are elite - there is no player on the team who is better with the puck on his stick headed into the slot. He's top 30 in the league from 2021-2024 in individual goal generation.

I suppose there is a world where he plays the Burrows to Pettersson's version of Henrik Sedin. But his best projection is probably a guy who can play 13 minutes on the 3rd line and pot 20-25 goals.

He does some seriously dumb shit on defence and he's the kind of player the team's had to be tough on. But he's still driven positive results from the bottom two lines until he entirely fell off over the 1st half of the season. Fortunately he's started turning the corner in the past 10 games and is generating chances at rates similar to previous years. There still may be bumps in the road ahead but he's on the right track to generate significant value to the team of his contract.

It’s truly pathetic. Clearly is a problem too. Good reason I’d have zero issue dealing both, just embarrassing.

113M cap lol

Quinn's cap hit is going to be like 17M which is totally fine, he can have whatever money he wants.

But realistically, yeah there are going to be like 10+ teams not ever spending over 100M and there are going to be a lot of caproom around for everyone and hoarding cap is not going to be that useful. It's going to take awhile for folks to get used to that what "arming yourself with cap" is no longer going to be as true.

Players about time they got paid better, not good news for Canadian teams. Even if the dollar goes to 85 cents we still pay way more for the players than american revenue in. Not saying boo hoo to the rich owners, but in the end it does add to the complexitiy of building and paying playes for a good team.

He's in the real estate market in Vancouver, that's a massive competitive advantage vs the other Canadian teams.

We have a great thing going for us right now. Vancouver is only a quasi-Canadian market with the correct ownership. Whether we have that or not is up for debate.

It was exposure to the real estate market that cause the team to cheap out over covid, which lead to the loss of Toffoli and Tanev.

Rents are down about 10-15% in the last year and the population is expected to contract significantly in Vancouver as more and more temporary residents have their visas expire. I don't think it's a given that being in the real estate market here is an obvious win.

Do you think that people don't quit jobs because of their co-workers?

How many people do you think would switch companies if they could swap a company and keep their salaries without missing a pay cheque or could quit and just go find another job instantly. A f*** ton. Hockey players have that opportunity.
