It's a transaction that happens nearly every year. While the 1C for 1C trade happened never.
Well let's not say never... this was one of my favorite trades ever, and ended up being a banger for both parties:

Interesting point raised by Sat today, that Rutherford's quote most resembles when Jim Lites blasted Benn and Seguin for being "total horseshit" back in 2018: NHLPA rips Stars CEO for Seguin-Benn criticism

It makes me wonder if JR dropped these quotes not to prepare the market for a trade ... but to prepare the market to *keep* both these guys.
That's all well and good but Benn and Seguin were self contained in their bad play, meanwhile Petey and Miller seem to be at each other's throats and making the locker room a shitty place to be.

Janick Hansen was just on the radio and said it's not a bullying situation, if there was any sort of bullying situation, the players and org would handle it internally, no question.

What are the chances that Hansen is qualified to say whether what is happening or not, is actually bullying or not. Lol.

Well one way he's qualified is by being a recent former Canuck and NHL hockey player and understanding locker room dynamics that come with that.

I assume he has no inside knowledge but to him (and to me) it doesn't make logical sense that Miller would be allowed to actually bully Pettersson for years without someone - player and/or coaches/management - putting an end to it (not to mention Petey re-signing).

As far as we know Richardson and probably some others have thought he's too hard on Petey but it's never gone past that. Miller's not so tough that literally everybody he's ever come across would be too afraid to challenge him on it.

I will say that there likely is a certain jock culture that exists in these locker rooms where certain behavior that would never fly in a standard workplace is tolerated and not seen as anything out of the ordinary. But nobody has any details so it's hard to say if anything has crossed the line or if Pettersson perhaps is too sensitive for that environment (what we keep hearing is he has some sort of "finicky" personality). Based on what his coach and management have said, it seems they've put the onus on him to figure it out.

Just setting expectations..... this board is going to explode when this gets taken care of. It won't be pretty. Honestly I'd take $19.6mm in cap space and some picks and just move on rather than taking someone else's garbage back.

The buyers *all* knew what was going on, Rutherford lost no leverage with that interview because he had none to begin with. That interview was for the fans, and from the other teams perspectives they should absolutely be lowballing - these players destroyed their value, themselves.

I don’t give management a pass here, but I put much more blame on these two twats. Look at the coach, they sucked the life right out of the guy.
Cap space is not AS important considering we are coming out of the flat cap era. It’s not like you can get some great players because teams need to let some go due to little cap and very little teams having cap

Where can I get odds on both those guys being in training camp this September?

You think this is going to go on indefinitely? That they would risk having this happen again behind the scenes later?

They are apt to keep Miller beyond the deadline. They should. But to return for training camp.... That would be nonsensical.

Don Cherry has come out of exile to blast Pettersson.....says he'd be better off packing up and going back home.

But then Grapes never did like his Swedes.
this was the quote....... but nice try

Asked by his son Tim how he would deal with Pettersson and Miller as a coach, Cherry suggested an interesting approach to dealing with the drama: Stop playing both players entirely.

“Send them home. That’s the only way you can [deal with it]. Send them home,” he said.

That's quite naive. We know that is not always the case. Hansen was just lucky he was a part of an organization with leaders like Henrik, Daniel, Hamhuis, Malholtra, etc.

Jannik Hansen was one of my favourite players but I find that he’s a bit too over the top in his constructive approach to everything on 650. Heh, probably why he was able to eek out a solid career as a 9th rounder.

Not never, Lafontaine for Turgeon off the top of my head. But your point stands on the rarity of it.

With their client list they can also let Hughes know less UFAs will sign here…
Yeah. Much farther-reaching consequences. Every player represented by CAA is going to be putting VAN on a no-sign list, and on every NTC. Who would want to come to this constant clusterf***?

I dunno. I trust Hansen's perspective on locker room dynamics as a former player, but it doesn't seem like he has any actual knowledge of what incidents have occurred.

What we do know is that JT did something egregious enough that the club had to tell him to get lost for a month and cool down.

An interview about an interview, classic Vancouver stuff
Is JR just senile at this point? Delusional? What does he think his media tour blaming everyone but himself accomplishes? Same with Allvin. Last month does an interview basically just saying everything is everyone else's fault.

Management chose and committed to this group. They "evaluated them" and decided on this core. Now JR says the core sucks and won't get it done. That's on him. If he's now wrong, him and Allvin should not be the ones to remake the roster. By their own words, they can't do the job. Get out and let someone else who can.
