Trimming costs while trying to make the playoffs. Aquilini wants the best of both worlds the next few months. So what's the direction here? Prepared to lose assets but not spend assets to half compete while not collecting retooling assets for next year. Boeser and Suter re-signing seems to be the only shot they have left.
If they get in, it will be the 2nd WC and likely the Peg.I did not say he could be his equivalent, I simply said to give him a chance. Regardless, we're going to be a footnote on some team's path to the Cup as we're going to be playing probably the Oilers or Stars as a wildcard team and proceed to get smoked.
Ya. And it cuts both ways. If Boeser wasn’t getting good offers it’s because he’s been bad this year and won’t likely be missed much if he’s traded, so trade him and take the value you get and reinvest it for the future. It would have been better trading Boeser for peanuts than to have this dynamic on the roster moving forward.
I can't imagine there is an agent in the league that would encourage a free agent to come to this team. Say what you will about Benning, but he always treated his players with respect. It's fine to say the offers were not what you felt were acceptable. There is no reason to throw Boeser (and Suter) under the bus.
I mean yea it's gonna be a bad return if the player picks his landing spot. That's still an awful return on a player that has significantly more value than Boeser.
They are staring at the deadline headlights like a mesmerised deer.
If playoffs are the goal Soucy is more useful than a 3rd.
If playoffs are the goal they should have been buyers. They weren't.
They "gave up" a 1st+ holding onto self-rentals Boeser and Suter. Clearly they should be fine with giving up more assets to compete since they are not looking to the future. They didn't.
They also said they'd sell Boeser if they couldn't sign him. They didn't. It's out there now they have said it, that genie isn't going back in the bottle.

The Jets size and speed will murder Van let alone they have one of the best goalies in the league up against an anemic offense.
That series is a sweep.
Honrek maaaybe.Outside the hole of Miller, I'd argue we have way more. Our bottom 6 is much stronger and not anchored by Beagle and Sutter getting shellacked every night. Hronek and Marcus can acutally hold their own on a pairing without Hughes. Lekkerimaki is coming up more promising than Podkolzin.
Why dont we need to resign anyone? We're in a unique situation capwise where we have a ton of cap next year without needing to re-sign anybody. Theoretically we could go big fish hunting or take a Laine-type off somebody's hands much easier than other teams. That's a lot better than most teams with playoff aims.
I have zero faith in Allvin anymore.Allvin saying that the offers weren’t great for Boeser means nothing. For all we know they were asking for a young roster player and a 1st in return. He’s being called out for his inactivity, of course he’s going to try to defend himself.
That's exactly what they should have been asking for, and it doesn't really make sense to move Boeser for anything less than that.Allvin saying that the offers weren’t great for Boeser means nothing. For all we know they were asking for a young roster player and a 1st in return. He’s being called out for his inactivity, of course he’s going to try to defend himself.
Dallas would sweep them too.Stars are very quietly 6 points behind the Jets with a game in hand, and upgraded their roster massively at the deadline. I'd have them as the favs to take the Central division atm
Yes, 100%.Allvin saying that the offers weren’t great for Boeser means nothing. For all we know they were asking for a young roster player and a 1st in return. He’s being called out for his inactivity, of course he’s going to try to defend himself. Virtually every other player that was traded received more value than expected. He’s full of shit.
yeah i have a feeling that the canucks being so insistent on the age gap targets has once again limited trade partners.Allvin saying that the offers weren’t great for Boeser means nothing. They couldn't even get in to a 3-way to make use of it retaining for someone. Micromanagement success, macromanagement fail.I have zero faith in Allvin anymore.
They did all that logistical gymnastics to create tons of cap space and not use $1 of it.
Absolute waste of time.
Ridiculous.
hughes should play for a game to game basis not to win the cup. hughes isnt dumb he knows they arnt winning anything this year. hes a professional so he plays the best he can every game, not because hes trying to win a cup. what type of messaage does it leave to quinn in 2 years when they are letting players go for nothing instead of improving the team. almost a decade of losing for quinnThat's exactly what they should have been asking for, and it doesn't really make sense to move Boeser for anything less than that.
If they moved Boeser for a 2nd/3rd and punted on the remainder of the season, what kind of message does that send to Hughes who has sacrificed his body and health to get wins for this team? The goal for the team over the next couple years is to create an environment that keeps Hughes happy. Trading away Boeser and not bringing in another meaningful roster player to replace him would send a terrible message to a player who's ultra-competitive and has sacrificed a lot for this team.
