To those who are proponents of trying to make the playoffs, you can still try without Boeser - give Lekkerimaki a shot in the top-6. But don't do it at the cost of letting prime assets like Boeser walk for nothing/sign him to a bad deal because of heat in the market, which is now really the only 2 options left.

you know what could work better? both. if you think lekk is going to step in a be equivalent to boeser, you greatly overestimate where lekk is with his game (and i'm a fan)

Overall, thanks to numerous key injuries, it's been a shitty year and and last year's expectations have been shot to hell.

But I see some positive stuff:

- D-Petey becoming one of our regulars on D and playing well (with some snarl) at such a young age - who predicted that?
- Tom Willander was the potential star on D that I was expecting, and he'll be arriving in a month
- our D now, as compared to January (thanks to trade for Marcus Pettersson)
- despite shitty year, we could still make the playoffs. We may go out in one round, but the experience for our younger players is invaluable for the future
- we have a ton of cap space (when's the last time that happened?) - if used wisely, our future looks bright

Honest question. With how this deadline played out, and with the current state of the team, do you believe in management to get a QH deal done when it comes up?

It would have been better trading Boeser for peanuts than to have this dynamic on the roster moving forward.

I can't imagine there is a coach in the league that would encourage a free agent to come to this team. Say what you will about Benning, but he always treated his players with respect. It's fine to say the offers were not what you felt were acceptable. There is no reason to throw Boeser (and Suter) under the bus.

you actually believe selling Boeser for picks would UPLIFT the team and be a positive dynamic ?

ever been in a work environment when someone popular has suddenly left ? it's not good.

that locker room would be dreary as shit.

How is Allvin disrespecting his players? He didn't throw anyone under the bus.

fans of this team man. the GM tells it how it is, and ppl turn it into this hot garbage. don't wonder why they don't release details often.

This is a good point. The message to the dressing room is also pretty hilarious ... you're too shit for us to really add anything to the roster, but nobody really values you enough to trade any of you .... so, good luck with playoffs!

he most certainly did not

I don't know how anyone in their right mind would answer "yes" to this. Given the past year's worth of moves, they have positioned themselves wherein they'll have to basically pull off the most legendary summer in league history just to get back to having a decent team.

My thoughts exactly. This management group doesn't know when to shut up. Embarrassing their own players to the media seems to be a weird PR strategy of some sort.

Didn’t Calgary trade Curtis Glencross that one year they were in playoff spot? And he was having a phenomenal year as I recall.

We didnt have enough elite talent then and we have even less now.
Outside the hole of Miller, I'd argue we have way more. Our bottom 6 is much stronger and not anchored by Beagle and Sutter getting shellacked every night. Hronek and Marcus can acutally hold their own on a pairing without Hughes. Lekkerimaki is coming up more promising than Podkolzin.

Every team will have cap space next UFA season with the cap bump.

It is not a competetive advantage when compared to other teams.

If EP40 doesnt bounce back we are toast for a good while.
We're in a unique situation capwise where we have a ton of cap next year without needing to re-sign anybody. Theoretically we could go big fish hunting or take a Laine-type off somebody's hands much easier than other teams. That's a lot better than most teams with playoff aims.

They are staring at the deadline headlights like a mesmerised deer.

If playoffs are the goal Soucy is more useful than a 3rd.

If playoffs are the goal they should have been buyers. They weren't.

They "gave up" a 1st+ holding onto self-rentals Boeser and Suter. Clearly they should be fine with giving up more assets to compete since they are not looking to the future. They didn't.

They also said they'd sell Boeser if they couldn't sign him. They didn't. It's out there now they have said it, that genie isn't going back in the bottle.

So what's the direction here? Prepared to lose assets but not spend assets to half compete while not collecting retooling assets for next year. Boeser and Suter re-signing seems to be the only shot they have left.
Soucy is inconsequential because we value EP25 and Forbort more. Trading him now gives up cap flexibility for next season too.

I'm not taking stabs at what was offered nor will I speculate how badly Allvin's lying but the team is definitely giving it their best shot this year without shooting themselves in the foot (trading picks/prospects) because they know it's not a deep shot and think they can do better this offseason or next year.

I won't defend them if you're against that, but it's consistent with the idea of a team that wants to make the playoffs every year but also has some idea of prudence.

I did not say he could be his equivalent, I simply said to give him a chance. Regardless, we're going to be a footnote on some team's path to the Cup as we're going to be playing probably the Oilers or Stars as a wildcard team and proceed to get smoked.

He was having an okay season. Not the best example. Blues sold Shattenkirk when he was the PPQB and were 8th. Capitals sold players last year and ended up making the playoffs.

It’s not exceedingly rare but it’s not uncommon.
