Without knowing what was offered that's pretty hard to say.

If the best offer is a 3rd, then sure the "self-rental" make sense.
If the offer was a 1st and a B prospect, but Allvin wanted a young, cost control center, then he blew it big time.

What do you think was more likely on a day that Beauvillier, Brandon Tanev, and Luke Schenn gets 2nd round picks, that not a single team offered more for Boeser? I think that's impossible.

Yeah, at 50% retained it's hard to believe, however these guys (Allvin and Co) are straight up liars. :naughty: Not that it's a bad thing. Probably couldn't or wouldn't retain for some dumb reason.

Well we're f***ed lol.

I am getting more angrier and angrier as the day goes on. It’s like I’m on a bad trip and just waiting for it to wear off. In this case, I’m just waiting for apathy to set in.

Last time I felt this way was during the 2021 season. I was so angry with Toffoli, Markstrom, and Tanev leaving followed by the covid shit I did not watch a single game of that season.

JFC. I’m thinking of just tuning out until the draft.

Throwing Boeser under the bus, previously telling his agent he can look for a trade themselves, lowballing him in contract negotiations, trying to trade him but not getting what you want to try and go back to re-sign him.

Is like signing EP, throwing him under the bus for his play when he’s clearly injured, have your other star forward berate him to play better when you know that doesn’t work, try to trade EP, change their mind, change their mind again only to be left with no option but to keep him and hope he turns things around.

What a f***ing gong show.

Who’s next on the list?
when you put it that way

You sound like you're complaining because they didn't give you enough to complain about (don't like the Soucy trade? Really? You would have hated the Boeser trade...)

So.....do anything just for the sake of doing something? If they traded Brock, and got a terrible return you would probably bitch at that too....... they made their trades a month ish ago. Got out of 3.2 mill #6 d-man and didn't give up a good goal scorer for a chance at the playoffs..... some people on here will cry and moan about just about everything.

Are they doing anything this year.......not without EP40 playing up to potential, so no.

But you don't make trades just to keep the fans entertained. You make trades if they make sense to the club either now or in the future.

Time will tell if they made the right calls
Again for those who need it, idc about keeping Boeser or not at all.
Nothing about doing something just because or to entertain fans.
All the previous trades were quite good.

Its about doing zero either way, when in the best possible position, for anything, and coming up with a worse return than a replacement player Beauvillier.

The team has been low scoring and boring, while stacking huge capspace, and also has several potential assets to sell in a huge sellers market.

They took advantage of nothing and accomplished nothing. Not good.

Either push for the playoffs and add something that may help, or score goals maybe.
Or atleast sell Suter or Blueger for what seemingly should've been better than the soucy return, plug in Aman and keep on going with minimal difference and plus assets for future.
Or retain third party, or take a cap dump for the rest of the year and gain assets...

The options were many and the results few.

Glad we didn't blow our load for any rentals. Would have been nice to get something for Brock and Suter if they're not coming back, but meh. I'm fine having them for down the stretch and then an assload of cap space in the summer to actually go shopping.

Don’t let it affect you. It’s weird. So many fans think they have cores who are just on the cusp of greatness.

When you compare us to the constant success of organizations of: FL, Tampa, Dallas, Toronto, NJ, Carolina, EDM and Winnipeg they’re so much better than ours.

Yes most of them haven’t won the cup but they’ve still made the playoffs over the last few years consistently.

Our core was never that great. We were average to goo. We were never elite. We’re just super fans in an echo chamber.

The Vancouver Canucks were never a serious contender.

I just cannot get behind this idea of self rentals for this team, coming off a 2-4 stretch, and the definition of mediocrity all year long. Busted up Hughes, busted up Demko, ghostly EP, who are we kidding? Does anyone really think the ceiling for this team this year is higher than just seeing more than two home playoff games? And now how much pressure for just that will there be, with Utah and Blues coming and nothing to lose, is there even a credible case that we’ll out-pace the Flames? Meanwhile 1sts were flying around this deadline and scrubs like Beauvillier are getting 2nds and we have to hear “there wasn’t a market for our players” we should’ve gotten at least a 1st, 2nd, 3rd for those UFAs, and with all that cap space they could’ve taken dumps like Jeff Skinner a la Zucker last year, reaped even more assets, and probably not seeing much of a difference. As it is now, our ceiling is a couple games of home revenue and hoping to re-sign our same UFA‘s (likely at increased price) so we can see the same mediocrity next year.

Sounds like they think Boeser is too slow and they are going to let him walk. Either way, disaster class.

If Boeser does walk for nothing, then Allvin is, frankly, an idiot. That, or he's yet another hand puppet for Aquilini. There's no sugarcoating how bad that outcome is. It'd be one thing if this were last season where we were topping the west. You don't trade a player of Boeser's caliber in that position regardless of his contract.

We're in 9th, barely clinging to relevancy. But sure, let's throw away assets on some delusional prayer we can beat Winnipeg. Let alone scratch a game out of Colorado or Dallas after their moves.

I've seen enough of Rutherford and Allvin. They mismanaged the media circus around the locker room and don't have what it takes to build a contender. Even in a dream season where almost everything went right, they still couldn't get it done. And now the team has turned back into a very ugly pumpkin, with no leveraged assets to show for another three UFAs walking out the door. Feels just like Stecher, Markstrom, Tanev and Toffoli all over again.

Fire then both and start over, though let's be honest - as long as Francisco Aquilini wants his two games of playoff revenue at all costs, this franchise will never win a Stanley Cup. He needs to sell the team.

Rantanen went for 2 x 1st, 2x 2nd and Stankoven. Beauvillier went for a 2nd. If you assume Boeser is a mid point between the 2, then logic dictate he should've return a 1st +.

Just because no other wingers moved for a 1st today, doesn't mean Boeser shouldn't fetch one. Washington really rather spend a 2nd on Beauvillier instead of a 1st for Boeser? Or Allvin overplayed his hand, or insist on a young cost control center, thus killing his market?
Yes Brock is not Ratanen, outside of Ratanen, nobody paid a 1st for a winger. Saying Beau got a 2nd therefore Brock should get a 1st only makes sense if a team is actually willing to offer that.

Yes Was would rather spend a 2nd on Beau over a 1st to get Brock because that is exactly what they did.

Like I said, teams willing to offer a 2nd for winger does not naturally mean they are willing to offer a 1st for a winger unless that winger is a superstar.

(Edit: Apparently I post way too slowly and this was already expressed by another poster).

… I didn’t love the deadline, but tell me, besides Rantanen, what winger went for more than a 2026/2027 (futures) first? Bjorkstrand equaled that. Marchand is a conditional first. What evidence is there if a bounty left on the table by management?

(By my logic, it is disappointing that they didn’t cash in on Suter, which is why I don’t love the day).

… but I can’t understand why people are Taj levels of worked up.

I mean if your world is that binary then there's no point discussing any further. A trade didn't happen therefore nobody was willing to offer a 1st ignores the possibilities that
1) it was offered but was rejected (not just Boeser but all other wingers, ie: Rakell, Rust, etc),
2) Allvin was looking for something other than picks (ie: only willing to accept a young cost control player),
3) Allvin only wants the picks if he can immediately flip it for another player, since he can't complete the second half of that chain, he decided to not accept the first half.

There are many reasons a trade didn't happen. Boiling it down to "it didn't happen therefore it wasn't available" is a very narrow way to look at it.

Alvin just said there was no legit offer for Brock and said earlier in an interview that the offers were crap.
We know what Allvin’s trade be history is and that his asks are typically quite fair. So when he said the offers are crap and you look around and no team gave up a 1st for a winger, that connects.

I am pretty sure we’ll find out in the coming days what offers were actually made, those things tend to leak out and I am expecting them to line up with what Allvin had been lamenting about.

I haven't really looked in on this stuff today. @VanJack please provide a few paragraphs of recap of the Canucks' day with a bit of a haughty editorial spin.

Also I'm gonna try and do my best to enjoy the last 20 games cuz I know in the summer I'll be pining for hockey to be back for months.

Excited to see Lekkerimaki, EP2 and Willander hopefully.
This is a nice, healthy way to wrap your head around things. A nice dollop of poptsitivitism.

im out as well. not bothering watching nhl playoffs this year. focusing on wrestling which is way more entertaining these days and watching tv shows.

with the crowd that wanted boeser traded + assets then flipped - then with how expensive players were today (which has been referenced several times)

so what we would have got for boeser - how much would have to be added to 'flip assets' to get something we needed - when nelson and others were getting first rounders would everyone be ok paying the prices needed today to get that player - and what player was there

reactions are weird
