I know we’re kinda flopping the tank, but you add Hronek, Gavrikov, and Reinbacher (maybe Livingstone if he hits) to this defence and that is a rebuilt d core. I dont think there is very much you can do outside of a Toews type landslide win trade to improve beyond that

also in agreement. but the thing is that every team's fanbase does this every year where they say if we can just add x, y, z, we'll be 20 points better next season. and there's really only 1 or 2 teams every year that make those types of significant adds.

feels like we have known all season that they need to find their own cheap phil danault, and three top 4 d. they've done the hronek part - now they need to do the remaining 3.

and trim the fat in our cap structure

It’s an improvement for sure, realistically the team maybe lands one of Reinbacher or Livingstone - no way they get both. And Gavrikov has to actually sign here as opposed to re-signing in LA. This defence would at least give the team 3 legitimate top 4 defenders instead of 1. It’s a start…the back end will take a few years to sort out imo. But agreed that if they manage to do the following they would’ve accomplished a lot.

Hughes - Bear
Gavrikov - Hronek
OEL - Livingstone

The easy part of rebuilding a defence is that there's only 6 of them. But I expect Gavrikov to sign for at least 6x5.5

If they sign Livingstone it will be months before the draft. How would either acquisition have any bearing on the other?

They don’t have any relation. I just think it’s unlikely they get both, maybe Livingstone signs elsewhere or Reinbacher is drafted before our pick.

Ie the odds that the Canucks get one aren’t super high and we would be fortunate to land one of the two.

A healthy OEL would be a good player..imo..

After fracturing his foot at the Worlds last off season,he should was never right all season.

It’s the best idea to shut him down until next season.
I would buy that if he wasn't total dog shit the second half of the season before the world championship

He looked like the same player he has this season.

Well, he's untradeable and a buy-out is gross. So here's hoping he can be a better than replacement level 5D who can help develop and shield a player like Livingstone.

If he is, and if we do sign Gavrikov and re-sign Bear, we could potentially have a PMD in each pairing and a defensive D in at least the top two pairings (not really sure about OEL's partner at this stage).

Hopefully we won’t have to heavily rely on him with the addition of Hronek…and his play improves with the new D coaches and structure.

Yeah..I don’t think he’ll be traded or bought out this upcoming season..Again..I’d like to see him play healthy and playing within a more structured system.

He's got that gleam in his eyes!

Please don’t buy me out, Mr.Rutherford

f***ing shit.

You can’t move forward with this giant unplayable cancerous turd still here.

What is he supposed to say? The only option is to buy him out, which Frankie Blueberries won't like, or hope that he LTIRetires. As long as he's on the roster it's the coach's job to manage the player. This is Loui Eriksson 2.0.

I could see a world where OEL could play third pairing sheltered minutes and put up good results. With his cap hit is that a good outcome no but, in the situation at hand is that good outcome yes. One thing I think people forget is that Bruce basically threw OEL to the wolves in terms of matchups and usage. With Hughes showing he can take on that role and the Canucks hopefully bringing in a second pair LD. The Canucks can play OEL in situations where he can be most succesful.

I wanna buy an OEL jersey but edit it so it says

Oliver-Ekman-Larsson-Was
Good-But-Man-Lemme-Tell-Ya
Man-Oh-Man-Does-He
Irreparably-Suck-Now

Lettering should cost an additional $50-$5,000.
