There’s still lots of time for PA to make more moves.

Clearing out Myers and Garland opens up a lot of space - just saying.

Excited to see what will happen if anything. I think a top 6 forward and another top 4 d would put this team top 4 in the west at minimum.

I like Necas.

I'd also take a chance and try a Josh Anderson for Garland swap.

Yes Anderson makes slightly more money, for one additional year and he's had health issues.

But he provides a needed element to the Top 6 and has show the ability to score.
Anderson has 0 goals and 2 assists in 23 games played this year. He's getting paid 5.5 million per year for three more years after this year. His contract is an absolute albatross at this point and you don't touch him with a ten foot pole.

I think that's exactly what they should do. Spend the futures to move Garland and then more to get those upgrades. The time is now.

Generally agree, but it all does depends on who is available. Because I think this management has illustrated two lessons on dumping players. One, if you are in a bind and rush the dumping of a player, you pay for it - see Dickinson. Two, if you are patient and opportunistic, you can minimize the damage - see Beauvillier.

So I agree that they should be aggressive, and look to add a top line type player, but they shouldn't really rush the Gardland dump unless a topline player becomes available.

With all that said, I know we are all hoping this management goes "all in", but I am really skeptical. I think its more likely that Rutherford and Alvin try the unicorn "sustained top of the league" performance as its best for their job prospects. If you go for an "all in" more cyclical approach, then you are probably getting fired in the downturn. Plus, a lot of it is hubris with managers. I really do think many of them believe they can do things the "right way" an beat the odds.

Is Garland not a two way top 9 forward with speed?
I need some more points and physicality. Especially given this team's forward construction and garland's value relative to his $

I think Garland is quick, but at his size, his overall ice coverage isn't significant. He also seems to show it in random instances rather than consistently. Like i think they need another north-south guy in the middle six more than they need a smaller east-west guy.

I also still think Garland simply just makes too much. I think they should hold Garland until the draft (because of how much I theorize it would cost to move him midseason) and reallocate the Myers salary towards a F and Bear and just be content with that.

FWIW, I also do buy into the playdriving stuff. Like having a line in your bottom six that you know creates some chaos and isn't getting hemmed every shift... that's definitely something? Like Garland on his own makes too much but if he helps a line output higher than expected value, I see the value in that.

I've said that since before the season re the worry i'd have with moving garland

Next season?

Kuz - Petey - (Trade for)
(FA?) - Miller - Boeser(trade?)
Hog - Suter - Mik
Raty/Bains - Aman - Pod

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Bear
Zadorov - (upgrade)

i think so, cap is going to go up, Myers if off the books, there will be more certainty around our cap because Petey, Hronek and Zadorov should be signed. There might be a bunch of interesting FA and if we can grab one then that would move the needle more and if we can do that then we can focus the little assets we have on more specific upgrades that can move the needle.

One can argue that it is given core players are on cheaper contracts and performing. The OEL buyout isn’t there. Also, only Knights, Avs, LA and Stars are only the real threats in the West
I think the season after when the cap hit is at 4M, we should have like Willander, Lekk and Raty coming in to help deal with that.

Still miss Tanev and it was idiotic to let him walk.
But time waits for no one and at 34 years old I’d be leery trading much for him opt signing him beyond a couple of years.

Montreal is shit and Garland is being viewed in a similar light as a contract.

Not every deal is going to be a steal and the team will need to take chances.

Otherwise, this team will operate consistently in the middle.

It also needs size which it is sorely lacking upfront.

This is not a chance you want to take.

The single strangest thing about these boards is the Minnesota Bat Signal fan who only posts on the other team boards to tell posters that Wild players are NOT AVAILABLE whenever one gets randomly mentioned.
Been like this for years

One thing that is really remarkable is that even with how cap strapped the league is with flat cap and the hoarding of cap space, we are barely 1/4 through the season and we only have 1 of 3 of Garland, Beauvillier, and Pearson still on the team. I thought there was no way in hell we could get away with moving off of more than 1 of them.

What if there were assets coming back like a couple later picks?
I wouldn't do that based on Anderson's present play and the term of his contract. We shouldn't be looking to take any cap dumps in trades. We should just use assets to get rid of Garland.

A bigger better cheaper Garland. Any improvement is great. But if you want bigger better and cheaper, without retention, you gotta pay something or that player is gonna have some serious warts.

Canucks:
-had been trying to move Beauvillier for a while now but couldn't find any traction; thought they'd have to add a sweetener
-tidy work got done
-Flames wanted to quiet the drama down
-Maple Leafs are trying to bring in two defencemen and couldn't take on all of Zadorov's money
-New Jersey had checked in
-very common for teams to have a lot of players represented by one agency
-calls Zadorov a 3rd pair defencemen in a perfect world; that's what limited the return
-Canucks are the next rung down from being a contender
-Canucks need to avoid, at all costs, playing fringe players on the blueline for a significant amount of time
-a GM told him "I would love to drop my drawers and shit out two defencemen right now"
-guessing Canucks fans aren't going to love the Hronek contract

Perry:
-a few teams have reached out to Corey Perry
-thinks he will continue his NHL career

Gillis:
-out at the NHLPA
-Ron Hainsey has consolidated his power in the NHLPA
-Gillis was working on group licensing deals
-wielded a lot of influence and was closely counted on by Don Fehr
-thinks Gillis will stay in hockey
