Tocchett mentioned this morning that Wolanin is healthy again and might get a look soon. With Souucy out, I'd like to see this tried out:
Hughes/Hronek
Cole/Myers
Wolanin/Friedman

Perhaps Wolanin plays both Abby games this weekend and then gets a shot on Tuesday when the big club is at home vs New Jersey.
Well, that didn't stay relevant for very long.

If Wolanin comes back healthy and returns to his previous level (arguably the best player in the AHL), perhaps the Canucks could move him for a minor asset.

I thought Wolanin had a chance to add something significant as a bottom-pairing puck mover on a minimal contract, sort of the D-equivalent of PDG, but I don't think the organization ever shared that view.

Geez, with some of the trades Rutherford/Allvin have engineered, trades like other winning teams have done. I am starting to actually they might be able, with a couple more deals to get even bigger and nastier and experienced.
Sign Kessel and Perry trade (1 mil each) for Voronkov (under a mil) and make more cap space. Zaitsev (get a late pick for taking him) bring him on too.

Slower forwards but Boeser isn't much faster except Voronkov (6'4") and probably a really good #2 PP unit.

Loads of defence depth, get bigger and faster at forward.

They just might do it! Win a series, maybe two with a couple more trades

Peeke or Pesce or Schnieder or Bahl or numerous other younger long term playoff type players. All will be available at the right time for the right price.

The heat is really on some teams. Ottawa for one, 'Columbus even Buffalo. NJD Washington. Lots of heat

Allvin should get on the phones and shop Boeser and Garland ASAP.
Both could be upgraded.

There are a few players that could be available, Russians speaking, Zadorov and Voronkov maybe Zaitsev as well. Of the three Zadorov might be hardest.

Fleury, Pesce, Maatta are all defence drafted by Allvin/Rutherford

Average size of NHL defence men - 6'3"
Canucks - Barely over 6' if Myers and Soucy not included
6'2" if they are
9 defencemen on the roster all under league average already.

Don't sign Bear.

Use the Cap space for a playoff sized defenceman.

Washington wants help for Ovy and have tons of cap space. Garland and a center in the minors for Alexeyev and Mantha

Mantha is a UFA so a TDL deal could be in the works, the cap space is the big return. Alexeyev is a good sized dman, Russian speaking. He might go along well with Mik, Kuz and Zad with Voron if they can get them too. A pale copy of the Detroit five. Even a line of Mik (W), Kuz(W) and Voron(C) Alex (LD) & Zad (RD)

It would make a big push for playoffs, the future and the future cap problems created by the OEL buyout dead cap hits of over 4.2 million

Columbus doesn't need more drama if Voronkov has asked for a trade. There a Boeser for Voronkov and Peeke with late pick.

If the team believes they can finish in the top 5 or 6 then a 2nd round pick for Zardorov is a good price, maybe even a 2nd and 3rd in different years is good especially as the team has a very good relationship with the agent of all three.

With the conference being in such turmoil this year Allvin should make the moves to move up in the mushy middle and the future. He can use the points in the bank to help sculpt the future. Meaning a few losses while players acclimate.
With the points they have now they only need to play slightly over .500 hockey for a 95pt playoff spot so adding now for the next few years might entice EP to sign earlier so they can get their ducks in a row.
They are handcuffed pretty much until EP is figured out.

These trades add size and term which allows them additional/some time later. Planning can start earlier. IMO if they don't strike while the iron is hot and wait for other teams to make moves then they will be chasing them, better to be in front of the race and let the accidents happen behind you
Strongly disagree on Boeser, great call on Zardorov

CBJ - Provorov, peeke, boqvist, blankenburg

WSH. Fehérváry, Jensen, edmundson, HHA, Iorio, johansen

MiN. Middleton, Faber

Ott. Zub, chabot, jbd

Buffalo. Jokiharju, Bryson, Dahlin
Do people actually do simple research? Minnesota, ottowa and Buffalo aren't trading those players. Minnesota would ask for Hughes in return for Faber. Minnesota wouldn't trade Jacob Middleton barring overpayment as they aren't selling

No one on Minnesota is good enough to have Hughes mentioned in the same breach. Get my boys name outta you god damn mouth.

Myers and Garland still need to go. I get all the pros about Garland driving play on the third line and really giving some solid depth play. That cap hit needs to be reallocated to a top 6 forward to play with Boeser and Miller. That line needs a solid player to help defensively and on the forecheck. I would prefer it’s MIk, but that opens a hole on the Petty line that needs to be filled.

We no longer lose trades
That trade would be a big win. Younger, bigger faster, good forechecker, wicked wrist shot.
If the team also got Peeke they save over 2 million in cap space to be used, or not, at the TDL or to sign Kessel and Perry or another top 4 dman from a team that decides to tank.

Myers will be much more valuable now with his ice time going down to around 16 minutes and a cheap resign here. He still skates pretty damn fast. You don't see him having to chase down a player past the blue line.

You haven't seen Bain yet. Aman doesn't look overwhelmed, there is still Studnika too. All these guys can score 10 goals a game.

The last few years the bottom six has barely contributed so getting 30 or 40 out of the bottom six isn't outside the realm of possibility?

I like our bottom 6 and I agree we suddenly have useful depth that can set in. I also like the idea of signing Perry. I agree with you most the time, I just think trading Boeser would not be good for this teams vibe. They really care about the guy and he is playing well, I feel like you discount his contribution on the defensive side of the puck in his role on 5v5 with Miller.

Holy crap, Ristolainen too, rumour?
That would be Boeser for sure
Where is this coming from ?

How, why?

He has been a minus player in every single year of his career. He would have been a good trade target for OEL before we bought the man out.

No way we give up Boeser for him. I could understand trading for an Andersson out of Calgary and giving up Boeser or Kuz to get it done. But not Ristolainen.

I think trading Garland in the offseason will be one of the top priorities. Moving him in season with how tight most teams are with capspace will be very difficult unless you’re taking back a similar AAV or retaining.

this is a great trade. i am not a massive fan of zadorov but he's an nhl defender who brings some good things we need and he's an expiring ufa so this is a perfect test drive. this is also close to free as far as i am concerned since that 5th was found money. we badly needed to thicken up the defence and we would have paid more for less at the tdl so wow.

i agree with credit to dhaliwal. the fact we know he has a pipeline to milstein makes me think a lot rumours involving his clients are dust and dreams but he was dead on with calling this.

now calgary has cap space i guess so they can buy something they want and pass it on round the league. thanks chicago!

What do people who like the Zadarov acquisition think it accomplishes? Does it feel like it has a chance to contribute in a small but significant way to a playoff run? Is the main positive that it gives the Canucks an edge on re-signing him and upgrading Cole next season, with playoff implications then?

Not the biggest fan of the player due to his stupid decisions sometimes, but he's undoubtably a fun player. The Canucks got him for a surprisingly good price coming from a divisional rival, and he adds size to the blueline, which is a good idea for the playoffs. He's definitely a long term Cole replacement at this stage of Cole's career, and I'm confident a guy like Foote could work with him and integrate him into Tocchet's system well.

My honest answer is it’s too early too tell. The immediate need is apparent but if he fits long term will take a while to discern.

So, maybe no consequential playoff benefit this season, but perhaps within the next couple of years, assuming a re-sign?

In regards to the Ristolainen rumour, I’m going to impose a rule where if you want to present a rumour you have to provide a link. The source doesn’t have to be credible but you can’t just make shit up and pretend it’s a rumour. Just present a trade proposal, that falls under the fantasy category of this thread.

I think he can have benefit in the playoffs this season. You always want guys on the back end that are tough to play against and wear down the opposition over a 7 game series. But yeah, 100% the Canucks see him here beyond this year. Seems like they're a big fan of him and see him as a mainstay on the blueline, from all accounts. And I trust the pro scouts now to bring in the right fits for Tocchet's system, so I'm pleased with this deal.

I thought he would be a lot more expensive (Say a 2nd and a 3rd), so him coming for a 2026 3rd and a 5th is a pleasant surprise. Worth bringing him in early rather than waiting until UFA for that price. 100%.
