Tocchet was very much calling out Mikheyev to show something here in his presser today.

He did say that the ACL injury takes more time than people would expect, but yeah that felt noticeable.

Felt like something we could telegraph but I was a little surprised he went as public as he did there, even though he was asked directly.

All eyes on the Milstein guys + Myers & Cole here. Was interesting hearing the Tanev news heating up - I get why Calgary wants to move him asap given his injury history but part of me thinks that okay, you’ve gotten in front of a few situations here.. feel like you can afford the gamble to hold out for a FRP.

When I looked at the lines for teams around the league, I can see why the Tanev market is smaller than people would think. But Tampa was a name I circled as one that made sense to me and I wasn’t surprised to hear that rumor pop up today.

I have a friend who contributed a design for consideration for the Indigenous logo, and I would argue it's even cooler, though I admit I might be biased. At any rate, I am totally on board for making an Indigenous theme the permanent logo.
Any chance you could share it?

The Canucks could do well adding another logo night, for fans just submitting logos and have everyone vote on them during the off season.

It's certainly interesting how the organization is allowing the artists to use the skate logo for these designs. I guess the jersey/merchandise sales since the skate logo was reintroduced was pretty competitive between the logos.

The Thunderbird Skate logo is the best logo the Canucks have ever run.

What was interesting was Tocchet used very similar verbiage to describe Kuzy's game, stating he could sense that Miky's game was rounding back into form.

3 days later Kuzy was traded.

Before the trade the Swedish Chef stated that other teams in the league are "excited" about their prospects.

Perhaps Miky could be the salary dump to take on another significant player giving up prospects as assets to get the deal done.

... to be continued.

mik could probably be used as trade bait. depends on how well he plays during this 6 game eastern roadtrip. lets name some depth defenseman that could be options for vancouver to aquire. nick seelers/walker type.

Wanted to post this line-up in response to @Shareefruck's earlier post:

I hope Tocchet tries something like this before the playoffs:

Miller-Lindholm-Garland
Mikheyev-Pettersson-Boeser
Joshua-Blueger-Hoglander
PDG/Aman-Suter-Lafferty

- The 1st line is meant to create a possession difference while providing Lindholm 2 players that like to hold onto the puck. This way, he can move into spaces to shoot while the other two pass from down low or across the middle to set him up. Similar to what he had with Tkachuk and Gaudreau (though obviously not to the same extent).

- 2nd line has Boeser again working with Pettersson to provide points, and that should be enough for Pettersson to work with.

- The 3rd line gets a Garland-esque replacement in Hoglander -- Which gives him a chance for more offense, while still keeping the Joshua-Blueger duo intact.

- The 4th line has Suter steady the line. They can then be further trusted to match up against the opposition. Suter-Lafferty can trade off on draws like Miller-Lindholm would.

I think this set up gets more out of the top line than Suter being there, and it solidifies the 4th line. Meanwhile, Pettersson gets to make plays with an improved Boeser. The downside comes with breaking up the 3rd line, but hopefully, Hoglander given more of an opportunity keeps them relatively close to where they were.

Aside: I liked that Tocchet said that Miller could move to wing in his recent interview. This bodes well for alternative line configurations.

Well, he has a 10 team NTC. So there's 21 teams CGY could trade him to without any notice.
21 teams won't be vying for him though, given the asking price, only the ones in position best for a run, who are missing just a piece or 2, would even consider such a trade for a ufa that most definitely won't re-sign w them. So if the ask for him is the rumored 1st or 2nd plus, than it really doesn't make sense to throw away assets for a player that wouldn't be considered a missing piece to a long cup run, and concurrent with capspace and what seems like the flames not wanting to retain, that list drops down to really less than a handful of teams

For Tanev, the Canucks should offer to convert the conditional 4th they sent to Calgary into the 3rd (if the make it to the conference finals) into a non-conditional 3rd and also send Karlsson and/or Friedman to make the cap work but that is about it.

Unless a particularly compelling piece becomes available that requires salary to be moved, I'd expect the Mikheyev situation resolves in the summer. Much like Kuzmenko, due to the cap they don't really have the luxury of waiting around to see if he gets his game back, especially if they want to take a run at retaining Lindholm and/or some of the UFAs.

Then we don’t get Tanev and Calgary trades him to another team. Your proposal has the same effect as no proposal at all.

I would love for them to go after joel erikson ek.
I think they need a bit more heavy bodies upfront. joshua and miller are great, but another player who can hazzle the defence and put pucks in the net, would put them over the top.

Perfect fit and wild seems out of the playoffs.

From LeBrun this morning.

"Again, as I reported last week, the sense is the Flames want a second-round pick plus another asset for Tanev, although if you’re a team like the Maple Leafs without a second-round pick for the next three years, I’m confident still in saying Toronto’s price to pay on Tanev is a first-round pick. I just don’t know if that’s a price Leafs GM Brad Treliving will want to pay or not. And if he does, I would imagine he would have some level of confidence he can re-sign Tanev before July 1."

Dhaliwal also said that the Flames think they can get a 1st round pick for Tanev.

Sounds about right based on previous deadline years. A 2nd and another mid rounder should be a given.

I wonder what kind of retention is involved in that? I know Calgary has been hesitant to retain so far, but I don’t think there’s any way Toronto could fit Tanev without 50% retention and possibly even double retention with a 3rd team.
