He really shouldn’t be valued more than a 3rd round/late 2nd round pick but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team is dumb enough to squander a 1st for him.

As we start inching toward the TDL, I would suspect that we'll see his value increase...especially if some teams D gets hit with injuries.

seems like this is going to be a sellers market this year and the prices are going to be inflated.

For centers and dmen yea, I bet we see wingers go for reasonable prices though. I know everyone wants defense, but I'd be cool with just adding a winger as well if that's the more cost efficient move.

yeah i think the next item should be a physical or a scoring winger. Vatrano would be awesome but I think we would need to lose cap to bring him in.

really depends on how much he (Myers) wants to be here. He needs to take a serious discount to play here. He already had his dimjiim payday
I agree, I was thinking more about him *not* being traded this year (which many here seem to want).
I suspect that another team will throw a 4x4 contract at him next year, which we should not match.

Oh man. Rypien beating the absolute wheels off of Rich Clune is one of my favourite memories of him.

That or breaking Cam Janssen’s nose the game after Janssen showboated stupidly after a long tilt with Tanner Glass.
For me, the quinessential Rypien moment was when rookie Eric Johnson almost picked a fight with Rypien without knowing who Rypien was. Johnson started to get tough in the corner and Rypien looked at him like "Oh yeah?? You sure you actually want to fight me?" The BJ Crombeen comes flying in and bear hugs Rypien to the ice. Canucks get a PP out of it and the camera shows Johnson in the penalty box looking confused, talking to Crombeen, and Crombeen is just staring straight ahead, shaking his head like he was thinking "you don't know how badly you almost f***ed up there kid."

the trade deadline is gonna be another letdown i think (not talking about the canucks specifically here, just the league in general). too many buyers and not enough players that need to be moved

teams that are (almost) certain buyers:

boston
florida
tampa
nyr
carolina
toronto
colorado
dallas
winnipeg
vancouver
vegas
edmonton

teams that might buy but will probably be conservative:

philly
detroit
nyi
pittsburgh
lak
st louis
nashville

teams that will certainly sell

chicago
san jose
anaheim
columbus
ottawa
montreal
buffalo

teams that might sell

washington
new jersey
nyi
pittsburgh
detroit
calgary
arizona
seattle
nashville

that doesn't leave a lot of players on the market. going team by team looking at ufas only

chicago

tyler johnson
anthony beauvillier
rem pitlick
colin blackwell
jared tinordi
nikita zaitsev

san jose

kevin labanc
mike hoffman
anthony duclair
alex barabanov
kaapo kahkonen

anaheim

adam henrique
jacob silfverberg
sam carrick
ilya lyubushkin

columbus

jack roslovic

ottawa

vlad tarasenko
nik kubalik

montreal

tanner pearson

buffalo

victor olafsson
zemgus girgensons
kyle okposo
eric comrie

the maybe sellers

anthony mantha
max pacioretty
nic aube-kubel
joel edmunson
tyler toffoli
colin miller
cal clutterbuck
matt martin
jake guentzel
jeff carter
alex nedeljkovic
david perron
shayne gotisbehere
daniel sprong
james reimer
jakob trenin
thomas novak
tyson barrie
alex carrier
jason zucker
matt dumba
troy stecher
noah hanifin
chris tanev
oliver kylington
jordan oesterle
justin eberle
justin schultz
alex wennberg
tomas tatar

there's not really much meat there. perron and gotisbehere will be attractive if detroit sells and hanifin/guentzel will get a good return if calgary/pittsburgh don't resign [them] but beyond that the best pieces are like justin schultz, adam henrique, vlad tarasenko and jason zucker. tanev, trenin, novak, wennberg, eberle, dumba, barrie, sprong, edmunson, nak, lyubushkin, duclair and barabanov will get decent returns too if they are moved but there's no blockbusters happening in that group

some poor team is gonna talk themselves into olafsson or zaitsev as a meaningful addition

for the canucks they should probably try to cram toffoli or eberle into their cap if they can swing it or maybe settle for sprong or zucker as some additional wing depth but i don't really like anyone else at the price they'll probably command. novak would be a great addition but i think nashville resign him and if not he'd probably cost like lekkerimaki or willander given how thin the market is and how many buyers are out there

there's basically no defenseman i think are realistic targets barring another suprise like hronek. maybe schultz but the canucks don't need his skillset at all. edmunson if he comes cheap would be okay i guess

Noah Hanifin:
-Hanifins agents will have a conversation with Flames management soon

Chris Tanev:
-Tanev is seen by the #1 guy on the rental defenceman market
-dominos may fall once Tanev is traded
-price is a 2nd round pick plus another asset
-cost for Maple Leafs is a 1st round pick

David Savard:
-has said that he doesn't want to be traded
-Canadiens don't want to trade him and will listen
-not a player that the Habs bring up on their own to other teams

Erik Johnson:
-chance he gets dealt but Sabres haven't committed
-need to have a conversation with him and his agent

Hockey Canada:
-discussions about setting up a management team
-executive director, likely an NHL GM will be appointed at some point
-names Doug Armstrong as a likely candidate
-any Canadian player hoping to be in the mix, the auditions start at the World Championships in May

Russian Ban:
-far from certain that Russia will be able to play in the 2026 Olympics
-as long as war is ongoing in Ukriane, Russia won't be there

New York Rangers:
-would like to add a forward
-made an offer for Elias Lindholm
-Rangers owner, James Dolan, doesn't want them to trade their pick so they can be part of the spotlight at draft in The Sphere; James Dolan owns The Sphere
-may use another 1st round pick

i can't imagine that dolan rumour is true. that's the most insane thing i've ever heard.
Apparently, Edwards has a lot of hatred towards Treliving snuffing the Flames to sign in Toronto. That's why the price is higher for them.
i believe seravali or someone said that it's because the leafs don't have a 2nd round pick this year, so for them it's a straight 1st

I don’t know where to put this but today I started to experience some existential dread about the playoffs. I was looking at the standings and envisioning a 1st round series against the Blues or a 2nd round series against either Vegas or Edmonton. Am I the only one feeling slightly terrified of bowing out early again? A lifetime of Canuck induced PTSD has me worrying about the worst case scenarios come playoff time. Somebody talk me off the ledge.

Just need to accept it. The core isn’t exactly playoff veterans and there’s not an insignificant chance this year is a “growth” year in terms of experience etc.

which defenseman or two would you want the canucks to target? plus another forward who can bang and crash. i thought of the name trent yenin. big hits like a truck would be useful for forth line if needed

Would love one of the Philly guys, Seeler or Walker, but probably not realistic as Seeler won’t be available and Walker probably pretty expensive asset wise.

Maybe Alexandre Carrier or Ilya Lyubushkin.

Still thinking a lot about Andersson, and know it’s a bit of a pipe dream. On the main Board a couple flames fans thought he may get traded (I have seen nothing from the “insiders”) anyhow, I do think Conroy is a GM you can maybe talk into things as long as it looks good.

What I really like about him is his Cap hit and length of contract.

Raty (I’m not super high on him)
2025 first
2025 second
Friedman

This is IMO not enough, but I think a prospect that is viewed as higher end will be a must. The first and second is comparable to what we have for Hronek (although later in the draft) and Friedman is a filler.

You have to trade someone to make it work, Myers and Zadorov being the possibilities. I think if you can trade Myers for a first (I have doubts) or even a second you can add it to the deal (maybe Calgary wants him for filler and think they can re-sign him).

I think realistically your looking at something like

Hoglander
Raty
First

For

Andersson

It’s a trade I do, but what I would really go hard after and put caution to the wind is if you could trade Myers to say NJ who has a need for say a second and add it to the deal so it looks like this

Hoglander
Raty
2025 first
2025 second (NJ)
Take off condition on 4th from Lindholm

For

Andersson
Tanev

I know it’s a dream, but if they get Andersson, it allows you the option to trade Hronek if his salary demands are to high (I offer him what Hughes is making). I also know that Hogs has been great and leaves a different hole in the lineup, but I mean #1 RHD are worth a lot in the market.

End thought

seems a massive overpayment for a rental and Anderson just is not worth that much. I mean, really sell off the last of our decent draft picks, Hoglander (who is playing great and on a good contract) and Raty? In summary, give up a top 4 D man, a great player and contract, a decent prospect and a 1st for a rental and an ok D man. NO thanks.

Honestly looking at the Canucks roster, obviously any team would like to pick up another Dman, they have a tendency to get injured during the much more physical post season. However I think if there is something other than the extra dman, we could really use a LW/C that can play on the Pettersson line and allow Suter to move back to C on the 4th line. I don't honestly trust Aman there right now for a post season run. I think this would truly make the Canucks a very strong 4 line team.

Someone I might consider would be an Adam Henrique. He's got a 200ft game and is very strong on faceoffs. He's not overly physical, but he does play a 200ft game. On a very poor ducks team, he's managing to not be negative on the +/-.
