my worry with milstein is he's dangling players like kuzmenko and gavrikov and leveraging them to get inflated deals for his other clients. i'm half convinced mikheyev was the cost of signing kuzmenko and if the canucks sign both barbashev and gavrikov no one will be able to convince me they weren't a package deal. i also expect the canucks to extend kravtsov this summer regardless of how he plays down the stretch
Yep. You want this guy? Better sign my other client. Here’s the price.

Milstein isn’t cutting the Canucks any discounts.

It will be interesting to see where the Bear contract talks lead to..?..Apparently, they’re far apart.

I’ve seen a decent sample of his ability,and I would peg him around #4-5 D man....A tweener.
I hope management is viewing him as a bottom pairing guy, a #5 at best. They can't afford overpay depth guys with their cap situation.

Maybe all that work they've done renovating the development system can pay off and allow the depth to stay cheap and hungry.

It’s a weird one..He isn’t a tried and true top 4 D man, and he isn’t your typical 3rd pairing grunt..He’s kind of in the middle.

A useful player to have though…He does have good qualities.

The rate of exchange for this kind of a player is $2.5M max..imo.

I really like Bear, but eventually he is going to be blocking a roster spot from a better player and his role will be 5-6

I would rather pay 2-3 million to a 3rd pair guy who plays better defensively and can kill penalties.

Bear got a nice bump because of his story, but should be easily replaceable

i'm not saying milstein is pulling the strings and making roster decisions or anything. i think if it's happening then it's pretty much limited to getting pen to paper on contracts. i just think it's a little suspicious the canucks won the kuzmenko sweepstakes and also have done a bunch of things that could be perceived as favours for milstein's other clients (mikheyev's contract, "rescuing" kravtsov from new york, whatever happened with kalynuk)

i'm also not against them signing more milstein clients (although i don't really think gavrikov will live up to the contract he gets)
Bud you want to get rid of podz cause he’s a 21 year old going through some growing pains. Lol

i don't think they need to waive him or give him away for free or anything but i'm tired of watching players who aren't good enough to play in the nhl play significant minutes for this team. podkolzin, dries, studnicka, aman, burroughs, kravtsov, brisebois and juulsen are all in the lineup because the canucks have zero depth and zero competition for ice time

if they want to park him in the ahl until he learns to produce then fine. i want to watch good players though not players that will hopefully be good someday

disagree on aman. for a rookie, i think he's had a good season. plays a simple game and is good on the pk. key word being good, not just a body who concedes 50 g/a per 60

i just don't think he brings enough offensively to play on a good team. if he turns into a very good penalty killer there's probably a place for him but he's not really any better than lazar the way he's played this season

Well not if we want a shot at being competitive. He would have to earn an opportunity and expecting him to start out on a top pair is insane
Not necessarily. If that top pair spot is next to Quinn. Both Schenn and Bear were almost out of the league/healthy scratches before they had a chance to play with in that spot.
Funny how both have a completely different rep now than they did before they got a chance to play next to one of the best d-men in the world.

Ideally yeah we could/should find a legit top 4 guy to play with Hughes, but it wouldn't shock me if the best college ufa is as good as Schenn or Bear.

He also listed a bunch of guys that are supposed to be AHL depth if not for injuries and the trade deadline.

Podkolzin, Aman and Kravstov probably roles on this team when everyone is healthy. The others are good depth pieces. These are the types of players every team needs, and they are being paid appropriately for their contributions, for once.

Aman has 13 points in 57 games.

Boston - the best team in the NHL - is playing Tomas Nosek (13 in 56) and AJ Greer (11 in 52) regularly.

A team like Dallas is playing Joel Kiviranta (8 in 61) and Luke Glendening (4 in 61).

A 15-20 point pace is totally normal for a player of Aman's mostly 4th line usage. Might actually be very slightly above average.

Lazar had literally less than half the production of Aman, and teams scored 18.30 goals/60 with him on the ice on the PK as opposed to 7.47/60 for Aman.
