If you assume Bear gets extended, the Canucks have three legit full time NHL RHD (Bear, Hronek, and Myers) and three more depth guys (Burroughs, Juulsen, and Johansson). Even if the Canucks move Myers, Livingstone would still have to beat out three players to earn a spot in the NHL. Maybe Livingstone's agent sees an easier situation for his client with another team.

Yep. The Canucks have lots of marginal RHD. If I'm Livingstone, Ottawa is the team I'm joining. Zub and then a pile of crap. Plus a lot strong lefties to partner with.

liljegren is being healthy scratched in Toronto and was drafted six years ago. I think it's a fair trade

Well.. because lots of reasons. Dubas gave keefe 10 defencemen to f*** around with and some are suffering right now with all the experimenting

Long term i dont see how toronto viably entertains moving lilly unless it is a package to go get a top guy

They have plenty of hoglanders in their system anyway.. no appeal.

I would target william villeneuve from them depending how high they are on niemela

toronto will need a replacement for holl and they have no cap space. i don't think they're interested in moving liljegren
Yep.. they paid the price to get mccabe locked in at his price to have a stable top 4 set at least including liljegreb

More and more unsure about Bear the more I watch. Seems to give the puck away a lot. It’s a weird situation because I don’t think he’s a top 4. But, you can’t pay him 3 million or so as a bottom pair guy can you? In theory if you have OEL and Bear on your bottom pairing you would be paying over 10 million for your 5-6 guys.

Personally, although difficult I would much rather let Bear and Dermott walk and then spend that money on a higher end player like Gavrikov. Then you those bottom pairing spots for league min type guys like Burroughs, Brisbois, Johanssen etc…

Who would play with Hughes then? We still need a RD partner for him, and I’m not sure that’s the plan for Hronek. I’m all in on Gavrikov but mainly for the 2nd pairing with Hronek. I agree that we have some great options for the 3rd pairing as well. But we are still missing a partner for Hughes. Do we bring Schenn back for that? Seems unwise. I think Bear might still be the guy.

Bear is the definition of a low event player, and one that is prone to making mental lapses and turning over pucks. The gap between Bear and someone like Brisebois or Burroughs is not wide enough to warrant spending an extra 1.5 mil.

You need to jettison salary and target another legit top 4 dman if you wish to compete next year. You cannot patch this with guys like Bear or Dermott.

I'm all for that if we can move Garland, Boeser and Myers, and Pearson and Poolman stay on LTIR. A lot of ifs.

Do you think Bear is a good fit for Hughes? I don’t, too high risk. Hughes needs a better defender to play with. Would love someone like Gudas for him. True stay at home. Maybe Scott Mayfield?

I'm very happy to see an upgrade to Bear, but cost is definitely a factor. Like I said, if we can move Boeser, Garland and Myers, there should be room to sign a Gavrikov and a better RD for Hughes. But if not, Bear might be an ok stop gap.

And we also have to get a 3C. Cap will be ridiculously tight.

I agree, I think best case scenario they can move Myers + one of Boeser/Garland. Use that space for a Gavrikov + Gudas/Mayfield combo.

Reality is they’ve taken some very low risk shots on guys, some have worked and some haven’t.

Bear at 1.5 or less sounds great. Bear at 3+ is a hard pass for me. Already going to be paying out the ass for inefficient players like OEL.

I think the Value in Bear is on a short term deal that would allow you to deal him at the TDL for a mid round pick. He is essentially a little worse version what Myers is. 4/5 who is prone to mistakes but his good at transitioning the puck. Probably a 2.5-3 Mill Dollar Dman if he hits the open market. ON a cap strapped team he is in the similar column as Boeser and Garland. Good players but if you need cap room he would be a name that would be circlulating around hockey circles

I dont think it would be hard to move him for a 3rd if we do resign him and right now there arent any better options in Abby to replace him.

Different topic but I do believe OEL is given a very short leash come trainning camp and if he is out played he will be spending a lot of time in and out of the pressbox

I would be okay with Bear on, say, a 2 year deal at $2m or less per season.

I think he's ideally a #5 who can play in the top four sparingly. A lot better than a lot of guys we've had come through here.

But I hope we have moved past the days of over committing on cap and term for guys who are really best suited to be a little further down the lineup.

I like Bear a lot - but not to the point of let's get silly on cap and term.
