Pens fans think I'm the crazy one for simply posting these facts...

Hoglander. 19 Goals. 4th Line minutes. 23 Years Old. 1.1Mill x 2 Years. RFA.

Guentzel. 22 Goals. 1st Line minutes. 29 Years old. 6M x 1. UFA.

Maybe I am crazy but I value Hoglander more at this point in time.

as much as this board hates to acknowledge shooting percentage... this is the same logic that looks at andrei kuzmenko as an untouchable 39 goal scorer.

that said, i don't want to trade hoglander for a rental, and as mentioned above, not huge on guentzel as a target. but if that's the main basis of the trade, in a cup contending season you take it 10 times out of 10.

There's zero reason for the Canucks tor trade Hoglander. He's almost untouchable right now anyway.

My point is Hoglander at 1.1M is greater than Guentzel at 6M. Plus once you factor in next season's contracts it becomes even more apparent.

Adam Larsson is the perfect fit for this team but I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if the Kraken trade him. Let alone trade him within the division. They are still going to try and compete next season.
Management might still think they have a chance at the playoffs this year (not a great one, but still). 9 points back with 2 games in hand on the second wildcard spot isn’t the worst odds. If they string some wins together and go on a run, they could easily be challenging for that spot in the final games. Doubt it, but I can see the motivation to keep competing.

I don't think they'd be holding out Wennberg if this was the case but they definitely want to compete next season.

Giving up Hoglander in a deal would be counter productive because whatever hole you fill by trading him you're just creating another one trying to replace what Hog brings to the table for such an affordable price. I hope that Allvin is smart enough to realize Hog's value and isn't blinded by the shiny new toy.

No. If there's anyone who's untouchable in the system, to me, it's Willander.
Not 100% untouchable but the player coming back has to be a game changer. Brady Tkachuk out of Ottawa of Andersson out of Calgary. Needs term and to be something that is beyond just a big name.

I don’t think the players it would need to be are available, and I also don’t want to trade him.

Lindholm for Pesce, the type of player we need for a playoff run. Canes can't be going into the playoffs with Drury as their second line center.
I posted this in the last thread. This would be a really solid trade for us IMO. I think you can possibly re-sign Lindholm and I doubt Pesce would be interested, but it’s the greater need and we have internal options for 3C.

sure, but on the basis of "we're trying to go all-in for a playoff run" - which is really the only reason to even target guentzel, hog just doesn't come close as a player, even when he's shooting 21%.

if management truly thinks we're a guentzel away from winning a cup, i'd trust them to make that move and sell high on hoglander with the hope that pod/bains can step up and fill that role next season.

but at the asking price of hog++ ... no thanks

Isnt Pesce in the Canes top 4 D..?...He's also a RHD...Not convinced they'd trade him for an underachieving C (I cant bring myself to call him a 1C)...I'm sure Pesce is important to the Canes playoffs.

Both players are heading to UFA (Pesce has been chronically underpaid on his last contract).

And that was before he broke out.

tbh, i think that makes it more likely that we trade him. this management group seems like they're astutely aware of when they'd be selling low, and recognizing when a player is getting overrated or at least carrying more value on the market than their value to the team on a long-term basis (ie. horvat)

again, i'm not huge on going for jake guentzel given what he would cost to re-sign (if he even considers a canadian team), but if you can get him for hoglander and not much else, that's essentially doing a reverse blake coleman trade where suddenly the cost-controlled productive young player is getting way overvalued in the market. hoglander is one of my favorite canucks, but guentzel is a team usa calibre player.
