There's been plenty of smoke around Guentzel, but there's also plenty of smoke that Canucks are not really big-game fishing and are looking more at the middle and depth part of the roster. I get the feeling Canucks will make an offer but will be easily outbid and will be unwilling to go that high for him. I agree on the likes of Toffoli or Duclair, or another defenseman.

I can't believe how quick people are to bleed assets for marginal (if any) upgrades.

Lindholm is the perfect example. Paid the price, and now people are talking about flipping after 10 games.

Sigh.
It’s all a big game of risk.

I personally think Lindholm can fill in as a great 3C and that is the downside, upside is #1 Center. More, I think our management team is a bit crazy (like a fox) and if we do flip him, it will be for someone or a package we could not have got for the package we gave up for him.

At this point I’d rather go for a combination of Toffoli, Duhaime, Greenway, Duclair, etc., getting rid of Mikheyev and his cap space, and adding a depth defenseman. It’d be cheaper than blowing our load and someone like Hoglander for Guentzel.

It’s like the young guy who lives pay check to pay check, that swears on Saturday after payday he is going grocery shopping and he is not going out. Next thing he knows a buddy calls and tells him a girl he likes is at the pub and the door swings closed as he heads out for a night on the town. We all know what happens when he sees he has a chance at that girl, he starts buying drinks he can’t afford.

That’s Guentzel to this management group, he is Allvins, Rick, and Jim’s type and you know they are about to get that phone call.

I wonder how much some of these rumors are about management planting seeds for the off-season (Guentzel, Tanev, Duhaime, etc) without tampering.

I think players and their agents do it too. Take for example that "Brendan Dillon would love to play for the Canucks" comment the other day. It helps put into context JP Barry saying Myers wants to stay in Vancouver. Players are already lining-up for a limited number of roster slots next year.

I’m not sure what would be worse - Vegas or Edmonton getting him, or the assets we’ll bleed to get him

I also wonder how much of a factor it is that the team gets involved in rumors and negotiations to help drive up the price so a conference rival can't afford the player. Perhaps they have no intent of trading for Guentzel now, but for appearances they are very involved just so it is that much more expensive for Vegas to trade for him.

$2.5-2.9M x 2 is probably the most I’d be willing to sign him for. If you sign Tanev in the off season, Myers on the bottom pair playing 16-18 minutes a night is more than fine.

The reality is, Myers at 34 hasn’t exactly shown signs of slowing down. He’s a very fit and athletic dude, and he moves around like he’s still 27-30 years old. He still has a lot of years left in him. Obviously his hockey IQ is the only thing significant thing that’s holding him back.

I actually can’t believe I’m saying this lol. But I’d bring him back. If you were to ask me this 3 months ago, it would’ve been a very non PG answer. But when you look at other available options, I’d much rather have him than Juulsen, Freidman, McWard, Woo, and whoever else.

I think extending him for another 2 years is fine, Willander should be more than ready by then.

We appreciate it Myers but you’d have to come severely underpriced/market for us to consider it.

We had a lot of chaotic years with Myers, I think it's hard for some people to come around to the fact that he's actually been very good this year. Always be wary of a guy performing in a contract year, but also, I think the fact that he is now surrounded by a significantly better supporting cast has helped to stabilize him and allow him to contribute.

Wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back - especially as he seems like a hardcore Canuck who wants to stay. But the dollars and term would have to be right. I'm thinkin 2x$3M.

Yup, I'm fine with $3 x 2. More than that seems silly given the players is openly advertising that he'll take a hometown discount.

This also just has to become the norm. Pettersson didn't push for the maximum. That needs to trickle down. The players that want to be here will show that with their contract demands.

Myers is also in NO position to push for the maximum.

He can try, but I suspect the result will be barely concealed snickering and laughter from our management follow by a "there's the door now f*** off."

Fine. Can’t believe we may bring back Chaos Giraffe after 5 long years. I’ll be open to bringing him back until after my judgement in the playoffs. If he takes all these dumb penalties, I really don’t want him back.

I think the Canucks have enough players on expiring deals - both RFA and UFA - that they can hopefully get to buy in the way Petey did. Petey just shaved a bit off his biggest deal of his career, surely these guys can all take a little hit, too.

Again - the haircuts would come in the range of $100K to $500K, and maybe sacrificing some term.

He’s also a really great locker room presence and the boys love him. That means a lot. And if this team shows an ounce of success these next couple of years, I would love for Myers along with the guys who’ve been here during the reign of error to finally be rewarded, if that makes sense.
