There's not a person I trust more in the hockey community than Friedman at this point, so if he said it originally there's absolutely something going on there. He probably got a call from the organization which caused him to backtrack.

Yeah which a few of us hypothesized that due to Tallon still being under contract and not given official permission to talk to teams the Canucks would have to deny it otherwise there's an issue of tampering or collusion.

I mean it could all be ******** but Friedman is pretty legit, given the complete randomness of this the Canucks might be shuffling things around in the quietest way possible given how much backlash management and ownership has received this season.

Yes, the Canucks should "acquire more picks". At any cost.

Horvat for a 3rd, 4th and 5th. Tanev for a 2nd and 7th. Sedins for two 3rds.

What? You want "more picks", don't you? Or would those trades be problematic?

Holy hyperbole batman. Nobody has suggested that at all. I'm just looking for a straight answer from someone who's stated:

a) Drafting is all that matters, that's why he likes Benning. He doesn't care about anything else but drafting.

b) Benning is a draft guru.

c) Acquiring more draft picks wouldn't be good because it didn't work for Edmonton.

If Benning is such a drafting guru then how come adding more picks would be problematic?? It's a simple question.

If the three stooges are still in charge when we get to the Summer Summit, there's going to be an audible backlash from me. No questions this time, just a statement.

He just answered why adding more draft picks could be 'problematic.'

For example, if the Canucks traded Thatcher Demko and Bo Horvat for Brandon Gormley and a 7th round pick, even though they'd be adding a draft pick, such a move would be 'problematic.'

So the only way to get more draft picks would be to trade Demko or Horvat? Wow thanks for educating me on that. I didn't know. I thought, like other teams have, we could get draft picks for veterans. I must have missed that provision in the CBA that states we can't do that. Again, thanks.

You asked us to supply a reason why adding more draft picks could be problematic. A reason was supplied. If it does not fit with the bashing commentary you were setting up, my apologies.

I didn't ask you anything.

What bashing commentary was I setting up?

And again, why is trading Horvat and Demko the only way we can acquire draft picks?

I guess if Vancouver had veterans of any value league wide they could have gotten picks, unfortunately they didn't.

It's not. If you could refer me to where I said this was the only way to acquire picks, we can discuss.

these are tough choices to make. Stripping the team of any value for top 90 picks isn't worth it right now. We simply don't have the depth.

I'd consider moving Hansen for a pick in the 25-35 range but even then it's a tough decision- Hansen brings an element to this team that's tough to replace.

I mean honestly with the way top 90 picks are valued which of our players are worth them? Hansen? Who else? Markstrom? Anyone else you'd trade?

Just speculating, it's not like I got the impression ownership is bearing down on him. But like I said earlier, it's so bizarre for this to come out of nowhere from Friedman that something has to be there.

Tallon is in Russia for WHC so maybe Florida won't give him official permission to speak until after the tournament? Pretty sure whoever said the Canucks have to deny no matter what because of contract and collusion rules is correct

Wasn't this the rumour awhile back? About the Aqualini's looking for an advisor to help navigate the sharp decline in fan interest? Perhaps the Benning backlash is registering?

i dont want tallon because i want benning and weisbrod gone as soon as humanly possible

I think the Tallon hire puts the clock on Benning and Tallon almost immediately.

What is a Tallon hire if not an indictment of Benning's work?

Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network about 40 minutes ago. He reported Dale Tallon might be headed to Vancouver. Elliotte said he heard the rumor at the end of the season and the rumor has gotten stronger with Tallon being "promoted" in Florida. Tallon is at the World Championships and there a lot of smoke around him going to Vancouver. EJ Hradek started the whole discussion by asking Elliotte if Tallon might end up leaving to be GM again because Hradek has heard the same rumor about the Canucks.Tallon wants to be a GM.

To me, this is the best news I've heard in a while... and I say this while having a general dislike for Tallon as GM. At one point time, I would have ranked Tallon as one of the 5 worst GMs in the league. But since we're already here with Benning, couldn't hurt right?

I hope Aquilini is able to bring him in.

Why so down on Tallon as a GM? What poor moves has he made? (Honest question).

Speaking of Tallon, can you imagine the reaction around here if Benning forgot to fax qualifying offers to a his impending RFAs?
maybe if Benning actually made a decent trade like Ellison and a 3rd for Sharp and Meloche, people wouldn't be so hard on him.

Instead we acquire foundational pieces for a leaky condo

Basically Friedman reported early today that there's smoke and rumours going around the WHC (which is where Tallon is) that Vancouver is interested in bringing him in. He also said that Tallon wants to be a GM again.

Then follows up with the Canucks saying they're not interested in the 2nd intermission.

That's about it. Most of us are just intrigued because the rumour was so far out of left field that it would be bizarre for Friedman to report it if his source wasn't somewhat credible.

Wonder what Linden will say when he calls Freidman.

"We are not hiring Talon"
"Yes Trevor, you are not hiring Dale, your boss is".

Remember when Trevor went on global news to say the rumours of him being made president were completely false? Oh, if only Trevor. If only.

If Tallon wants to be a GM then I don't see why he'd come here. He'd be an adviser, just like he is right now in Florida.

Don't think Benning would be too keen on bringing in someone that could potentially replace him, either.

if it happened a month after we won the stanley cup, i don't think anyone would care.
