I'm discussing guys pro scouted for the pro team, not fringe guys in Utica or amateur college signings.

Larsen played for Willie previously and Brandon McMillan was acquired because Willie loved him at the WJCs. Biega was a Gillis signing.

That makes 9/16 plus two others (Bonino, Clendening) who were playing college hockey in Boston when Benning/Weisbrod were based there.

The mental backflips one must do to attribute two Boston area collegiate players to Benning but deny he had a role in drafting Demko smh

Still waiting for an answer to this: Why do you think Benning is a draft guru? I see you regularly state that Benning's first two drafts are the best in Canucks history, so why would adding more picks be a problem for a guru?

Plus Prust played for Montreal... Benning's arch rival..
Plus Sbisa, Sutter, Cracknel, and Vrbata all played games in Boston while he was there.

So more like 16/16.. It's like this guy only signs guys he's familiar with with. Dim. Jim.

I've stated Bennings first two drafts could be the best back to back opening drafts of any Canuck GM and it's true. That's very promising.

So you believe he's great at drafting, and you've said as much. You've stated that all you care about is drafting and nothing else matters to you in a GM. So, how come adding more draft picks would be a bad thing when we have such a great drafting GM and you state that we need to be building through the draft?

The day Benning starts getting and giving proper value for trades, in line with comparable moves at the time, I will change my tune.

Just like I changed my tune from trying to give him the benefit of the doubt to becoming a full-on "hater" after the trade deadline.

He can't just draft well. He's a GM. He has to everything. Or at least 2/3 of things well. He has to do it now. Values he fritters away hurt us now AND in the future.

Answers:

-because more draft picks means we'll turn out like the oilers (as they had extra draft picks ["extra" meaning 1 whole extra pick in the top 3 rounds over a multi year span])

-because more draft picks are too much for jim to focus on, he can only handle a few while still drafting with laser precision

-something something gillis something something

I'm legitimately curious as to an answer to that. It's completely nonsensical to think more draft picks would be a bad team, especially if you think Benning is a draft guru.

And another named Sutter who Weisbrod probably knew through Calgary.

Anyone think that trade happens if the players name is Brandon Sundburg?

Funny how Nick "Can't Play in Playoffs" Bonino has almost as many points in this year's playoffs as Sutter has his whole career.

Are you arguing (through puerile sarcasm of course, as always) that this group doesn't place an emphasis on guys they've had before, moreso than most teams? Even 50% is silly. And benning all but confirmed that the fas he is interested in this offseason would be ex Boston players.

Give me a break. That's a pathetic response and you know it.

It's pretty clear that there are a far higher proportion of acquisitions tied to these 3 guys than you'd normally ever expect.

Use 'over half' then if you want. The point still holds.

Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network about 40 minutes ago. He reported Dale Tallon might be headed to Vancouver. Elliotte said he heard the rumor at the end of the season and the rumor has gotten stronger with Tallon being "promoted" in Florida. Tallon is at the World Championships and there a lot of smoke around him going to Vancouver. EJ Hradek started the whole discussion by asking Elliotte if Tallon might end up leaving to be GM again because Hradek has heard the same rumor about the Canucks.Tallon wants to be a GM.

Sounds nice....won't happen.

That would give me immense hope for this franchise

No, just wondering why its considered such an absolute negative if once upon a time a kid played a season with the coach here or there.

It's a sweeping general negative from the moment go, vs a case by case approach...THAT's the pathetic part.

Ah well...

I'll just continue to look forward to the informative and well thought out 'Benning's boys' posts over and over i guess.

I would like it. I really think Benning if he wants to be here long term is better off having a position more involved with scouting. Weisbrod can go to Utica or go away.

I always had a feeling that when the Canucks hired JB that they might bring in Pat Quinn as a senior advisor. ( I wasn't aware he was as sick as he was...I wonder if Linden even knew)

Interesting

Well this is out of left field. I'd like it but I'd be surprised.

simply wrong. Between 2009-2013 (5 drafts) the oilers had 22 top 90 picks. That's over an extra top 90 pick per draft.
