The thing wth sitter and I just realized this the ther day is that he's the new version of burrows. He can play Wing with the twins as he has a decent shot and can get the puck on the forecheck or he could be an integral
Part of a good to great checking line. He's never going to be anything more and he's definitely not a second line center but our coaching and management just won't accept they made a mistake

Burrows was one of the better defensive forwards in the league (at one time). That's something Sutter isn't yet.

No argument that Burrows is GREATLY overpaid right now - but was underpaid for a good part of his career in Vancouver.

When has Sutter ever been underpaid with the Canucks - guy got a raise & RETROACTIVE NTC being even playing one game as a Canuck?

Idk if this was posted yet, but it sounds like they were close to getting Kane, but they walked away after they had a high ask price.

I don't like doing this type of baseless speculation, but I gotta wonder if Benning's past display as a poor negotiator and his management groups desperation caused Buffalo to swing for the fences and ask for much more than they should have. I mean you'd think if someone came along actually wanting to take Kane of their hands they'd be happy to dump him.

Have to disagree. The Sedins are so slow now that if Sutter doesn't skate the puck out of the Canuck zone, it doesn't get out.

Sutter is doing more than just scoring, on its own, not a small feat on this team.

Don't get the Sutter hate. He is a decent player, far from the biggest problem we have.

We are just stating the facts. Sutter sucks when he is centering his own line and he is only producing when he is placed with the twins.

Thank god we missed out on Kane. He might be ok for next to nothing on a team in the right situation but after the start we have had we should just finally be worried about the ineviatability of our season. I mean Buffalo is in a similar situation as us and is he doing anything at all for them to improve their team?

You are the one running down Sutter, whats your solution to our top line? so far the best its looked all season is right now with Sutter do you disagree?

Do you really think Benning is telling Willie that Sutter needs to play with the twins so he doesnt look bad?

I'm curious how you think that Sutter is a driver of our lack of depth at centre? Sutter is an excellent 3c so i don't know how that drives a lack of depth.....can you elaborate?

Sens fan here but it seems like you guys want a rebuild but your owners are against it. Doesnt he realize the team will probably be worse when the Sedins retire.

Markstrom seems like he can be a starter, and your D core has some talent coming up, its more the forwards that need help.

As a Sens fan particularly you should feel our pain. The Sens are the poster child for this problem, in fairness to them, mostly out of necessity for survival.

Yes, water is wet. Yes, Sutter isn't a playmaker. Yes, Jimbo is THE worst GM in the NHL because he has no effing clue how forward lines work. Jimbo has at best a grade 2 level understanding of how NHL players play with each other to create scoring chances.

I don't see anyone in this board disputing these facts.

Sutter doesn't drive anything.

The only person that is driving our lack of center depth is Jimbo.

The only person that is driving our lack of center depth is Jimbo.

a decent argument can be made that the targeting of Bonino and Sutter was not a worthwhile expenditure and that perhaps rolling the dice in free agency would have been a better course of action and targeting other positional needs and age groups should have been more of a priority.

at some point Brendan Gaunce needed a opportunity to show if he could be a good NHL player....hes failing. Bo Horvat hasn't been a legit top 6 centre until recently. There's really nothing that can be done about a 1C. in fact in the 46 yrs of this organization we have never had a top 10 one except Hank and lots of teams exist for decades without ever getting one. McCann wouldn't help us now but may end up as a better option than the 3 we have right now down the road but he's not trending particularly well.

until this organization gets lucky enough to snag one when they rarely become available (which are more often than not ones with baggage injury histories or older players past their primes) or draft someone good enough to play in the top6....which takes time and sometimes lots of it were stuck. having our top3 centres as our top 4 scorers is hardly making it look like centre is the position that is failing us the most.

yes its pretty funny that he thinks he can convince other GM's that they have depth at a certain position so they should make the deal.

Well I mean you are the one suggesting we should go down our list of centers as possible solution for our top line RW. What response do you expect? It's like saying oh hey Miller is injured, which winger should we put in net before we go to Markstrom.

We signed this 6M forward, I don't know, mmm maybe we should give him more than 5 games instead of using Chaput to center him? Is that too radical for you?

How is Sutter driving down our center depth? He's a center that ****ing sucks being a center. How's that helping our depth?

• The Bonino for Sutter trade is Jimbo kicking himself in the junk. Not only did we lose a much more versatile center, we also lost Vrbata. Radim didn't join this team to be a playmaker but yet, that's what they tried to make him into last season.
• Luck has got nothing to do with it. When you commit 36M over 6 years to a complimentary winger (who is currently on pace for 30 points - woo!) that needs a playmaker on a team that is lacking in playmakers then you're a moron and you have no business being a general manager.
• Gilly left this team poor in prospects but rich in assets and real hockey players. Jimbo has improved our prospect pool from poor to average or slightly above average but by doing so, he has depleted our assets and we barely have any real hockey players.
