We're not going to trade premium players like Kesler and Edler at the height of their career, in the midst of their prime...for anything that makes this team better in the next year or two. That's utterly illogical. Why would teams ship out younger versions of players who are just as good, to acquire these guys? If they're moved...it's a deal for the future. You don't swap out two of the best players on a team for futures and abracadabra playoffs next year!!! That isn't how it works in the real world.

I completely agree with the idea of the bolded. I just think you're missing the fact that guys like Kesler and Edler are the same sort of personnel. Guys who, if we're looking to be a better team next year...as i said above, it is essentially impossible to improve this team for next season by moving those type of guys. You're not going to swap out one of the best 2-way centers in the league for picks/prospects/very young players and have that be an "improvement" for next year.

People have this weird idea in their heads that somehow this team is going to improve for the next couple of years by trading away our best players. And it's *********.

Who is under the impression that trading away our core players will make us better? Most people at this point are in favor of dealing away Kesler, Edler etc., but not to improve, to rebuild.

The Canucks were a good team in 2013. They could skate with other top teams but didn't score enough to win as many games.

This season is a tale of 2 teams. They went from being outstanding defensively and average to below average offensively to average defensively and an unmitigated disaster defensively.

And I still believe the people that were complaining about last years team, or the 2013 version of this years team were spoiled. As if .600 hockey is somehow unacceptable. Never thought it was reasonable to call these guys a disappointment because they could only win at that clip.

I have a feeling 2014 and beyond will help put that into perspective. THIS is what a bad team looks like...

It's the same team.

Make my day.
People keep talking about tortz and gillis and this and that - but I am starting to think we just have a group of mentally weak players outside of a couple like Kesler, Bieksa, Sedins.

Wow I usually try to stay positive but this team should be embarrassed. You could see Kesler was disgusted in his interview.

There are just so many things wrong with the player group and coaching it isn't just one. I've usually tried to be positive about the team and player group, but the defense has been annoying me for quite a while, on paper it seems good+ on the ice not so great. We all look the forwards but there are too many mental errors on the back end.

I think we have to rebuild, by that I mean trade more than a couple of guys at least and be prepared to live through some down seasons. The core needs to be turned over and replaced with fresh faces and clean slates.

First let me state that I'm against trading Edler.

Second, you're completely ignoring team dynamic.

Kesler may be a superior player than player X. However, Player X may be a better fit on the Canucks than Kesler.

My opinion of Kesler on the Canucks have been voiced quite a bit. I don't think Kesler is a good fit for this team. His personality, and play style are poor fits to a team that lacks skill.

You can argue that we should build around Kesler and his playstyle. If that's the opinion you hold, then you and I will never agree. I feel trading a centre who will depreciate in ~2-3 years for a good quality package (that has the potential to have immediate impact) is a worthwhile and smart venture.

It feels worse that we didn't win in 2011 now that we suck and would be lucky to ice a team like that in the next 10 years.

Epic. I was playing W.O.T. after the 2nd period, and I'd shoot a glance over at the TV and every time, I was like... what the ? is this really happening, what a bunch of putz's. unreal.

We need to clean house if this is how the vets are going to play with playoffs on the line - they'll ruin our prospects with these kind of gutless efforts.

Gillis will be a busy dude this offseason, otherwise I will be calling for his head. This team is beyond stale now. I think it was right to give the core another chance, but it's painfully obvious now that it won't work. Utica probably could've beat the Canucks tonight.

I am starting to feel the same way.

Hopefully a few more will want to go with Kesler if this is what they have to look forward to next year. As a fan it is easier to look through these terrible games when the team is full of youngsters on the way up. Full of veterans on the way - who wants to pay to watch that. Something management should be paying attention to.

This team could be back trying to get in the playoffs within 3 years with a fresh young core if they are prepared to rebuild hard in 2014-15/15-16. There are enough parts to make it work (current prospects, young players, assets from vets, UFA signing or two with the mountain of cap space). It just needs some young talent injected into it sooner rather than later, because by later we won't have the assets to sell and we'll be Calgary/Edmonton.

And here's to you, Larry Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please Larry Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself.
Look around you all you see are sympathetic eyes,
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home.

And here's to you, Larry Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please, Larry Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Hide it in the hiding place where no one ever goes.
Put it in your locker with your Cup rings.
It's a little secret just the Robinson's affair.
Most of all you've got to hide it from the kids.

Koo-koo-ka-choo, Larry Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please, Larry Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
Going to the SAP Center for a game.
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you've got to choose
Every way you look at this you lose.

Where have you gone, Roger Neilson,
Canuck Nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
What's that you say, Larry Robinson.
Captain Video has left and gone away,
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Sigh.

At each year's end we'd try to convince ourselves, even if we knew it couldn't be true.

"Next year,"

"There's always next year,"

Now I don't know what to think. To be honest I forgot there was a game tonight. The excitement of each new game is gone. It's replaced with dread.

I think his point was expect to get worse before getting better if we trade Kesler. I agree with it, we will have to live through some tough years. I also agree with you, if the team is not going to be a good team then take the assets, but the fan base has to accept the consequences. Hopefully they will embrace a youthful rebuild and come out to support not simple jump off bandwagon for 3-4 years.

The blinding rage of losing the Cup really screws with one's perspective. Don't worry, I am willing to wait out any number of bad years to get the right team.

Left to soccer practice with us up 3-0 after 2.

Turned on the TEAM 1040 on the drive home only to hear Torts say:

"This was a kick to the teeth..."

Me simply asking:

HOW..HOW?!?!?!
We are all Canucks?

It is our legacy.

Currently 10th. There's still a chance to make the playoffs.

High draft pick 6-8th vs playoffs against the best in the West?

Currently were 8th with both Canes and Preds having games in hand and if they win those games we'd sit with the 6th overall.
