Gillis' drafting was legitimately so much worse though. Like, it felt like an achievement if his draft picks were good enough to warrant a contract for crying out loud. At least Benning's prospects felt like prospects, even if they never reached their potential.

Gillis wasn't here for long and he picked late for most of his tenure because of the success he brought the team. In spite of this, he identified our scouting as a huge problem with the franchise and began overhauling our scouting department bringing in guys like Brackett while also finding guys like Tanev who is better than some of the top 10 picks we had after Gillis left. His scouting department also rated Horvat extremely highly and we can see how the scouting staff he built did with that one.

It would feel like an achievement if you had an opinion good enough to warrant a post

The exact same thing happened last year with Green. We were hearing Julien being Benning’s choice before jerseys were thrown to the ice. After that it was BB being the replacement. Well that’s the thing, the media defended Benning for 8 years despite it being our darkest period in history. We suffered and those media assholes fan that on.
