If Schroeder is good enough defensively that adding Booth to that line won't hurt it defensively, I'd like to see this as well. I just love that Burrows - Kesler - Hansen line so much, especially in playoff conditions.

Another thing that could work is

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Higgins - Kesler - Booth
Burrows - Lapierre - Hansen (I just love the way Burrows and Hansen play together, and this would be an upgrade on that great Higgins playoff 3rd line, IMO)
Raymond - Schroeder - Weise
Higgins hasn't played well enough to even deserve his 3rd line spot right now, and Schroeder and Raymond absolutely do not deserve demotions to the 4th line.

The game was fun to watch but I am not sure what to take away from it considering how lopsided the reffing was. A number of the ticky tacky calls could have easily gone the other way and without all that PP time it likely would not have turned out the way it did. The good guys looked pretty shakey for most of the first for example.

Nice seeing Ballard fired up at least. And how did Tanev slip through being drafted? Guy's a keeper.

Cheers

Overall the Ducks played a very undisciplined game so the number of PP's isn't all that surprising.

So surprised how this team has seemed to play a more physical brand of hockey. The implementation of Kassian has seemed to make the whole team want to stick up for each other a lot more.

Ballard with Perry yesterday, Volpatti is willing to drop the mitts with anyone, Kassian is as well. Couldn't say that about the team before.

Could we stop putting Booth on his off wing. He has hands of stone.
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Booth Kesler Burrows
Raymond Schroeder Higgins/Hansen
Malhotra Lapierre Hansen/Higgins

Wasn't the AMEX line quite successful with Booth playing RW? It wasn't until after Booth got injured that the line could not get back into sync....probably due to Booth's timing being off and Kesler being injured most of the season.

Very notable stat:

Schroeder was 11-8 in the faceoff dot. If Kesler replaces Kassian on the PP when he returns, we'll hopefully have a forward who can take faceoffs for the 2nd unit.

Great game by Raymond tonight. Hopefully he keeps it up. He's been ragged on for a long time, and I don't really trust him still, but he was injured last year so if he can return to his 20 goal form and play well with Schroeder, then we've got a great third line when everyone is healthy.

I will give Higgins the benefit of the doubt because he was there for the team last year.

When Kesler and Booth are healthy:

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Burrows - Kesler - Hansen
Raymond - Schroeder - Booth
Lapierre - Malhotra - Higgins

If Raymond keeps his play up and Schroeder/Raymond develop chemistry to the point where they are inseparable, that line-up will be sick.

I've always wanted Burrows-Kesler-Hansen to be reunited.. they were such an effective defensive unit. However, we could never put them back together because Burrows needed to be with the Sedins and there wasn't enough scoring from the third line to justify putting Kesler into a more defense-focused role. If Raymond-Schroeder-Booth can provide secondary offense, the Canucks are good to go.

I do like the look of those top three lines, all can score and are decent defensively so could line up against any line of the opposition.

The top line seems to developing good chemistry already and Kass brings so much to the table with the Sedins that it could be a scary good line. He's what we all wanted Bernier to be when he was brought in,a big winger that can make space, create a net presence, and score some goals in close plus he brings so much more than Bernier ever could...hands,hockey IQ,big time toughness and a willingness to use it.
If all goes well,he could easily become one of the best powerforwards in the game, especially with the Sedins.

Second line was really good in the past and should be even better now if Kesler can return to form. It's super fast, forechecks hard, has two 40 goal scorers while excelling defensively and would be a major pain to play against.

Third line looks promising as well with Schroeder and MayRay developing nice chemistry and complementing each other very nicely even after just two NHL games and a couple scrimmages.I always thought JS would need good smart player around him to excel and it's happening.I never really though it would be Raymond after his year last year but some extra time off,a kick in the pants from management and a fresh start with new linemates has really turned his game around.
Not sure how well Booth will fit in yet but maybe his straight ahead driving the net style will create havoc in front of the net and divert a lot of the other D's attention from JS and MayRay and allow them more time and space to make plays.

Fourth line, well,I hate to say this but at this point I'd put Wiese on wing,Laps at C hoping he can get his game back, ditto for Higgins.Insert Peppermint as needed for tougher games and Malholtra could sub if we might need some extra defensive prescence.Just don't see anything out of Malholtra anymore besides faceoff duty and we need an effective 4th line.Maybe he's off to a slow start like a couple of the others and will pick it up but we need more from him and he might not have it any more.

With Kass and JS stepping up and looking like bona fide NHLers and Raymond finding his game again, all of a sudden our forward depth is really deep and probably one of the best in the league.Given the fact that our top six defence is exceptionally deep as well and we have two of the best goaltenders in the game,we look like a real threat once again.

Put Raymond with a playmaker and he does well - imagine that! Not hard to see why he and Kesler weren't a good fit together last year as the latter elects to shoot so much. Like we saw on Burrows' pass as well, if you can get Raymond - who's a decent finisher - the puck in close it's going to lead to success. It seems like he might have worked on his shot in the summer too. Does wonders when you can have a healthy offseason to train and stuff...

I likes the comment about him and Schroeder being an almost symbiotic relationship - very true here.

2nd NHL game and AV didn't even shelter Schroeder. Best face-off man and took the most defensive face-offs (8 out of total 17 and went 63%)!

Now people can see why I talked about his defensive game so much. At this pace the kid will be playing shutdown minutes soon.

Great to hear that. Saw him start in his own end more than I thought AV would for a rookie in a road game, but having his faceoff prowess helped too. Really like how he comes back deep in the D-zone as well as his puck support. Extremely responsible without the puck and you can see why AV trusts him out there. Hopefully people's opinions of him will be turning around - especially those who haven't seen him this year in the AHL.

Very fitting that his first NHL point is an assist too.

If AV is comfortable using Schroeder in defensive situations why the hell does he have Burrows playing centre, getting killed in the faceoff circle?

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Raymond Schroeder Burrows
Higgins Lapierre Hansen
Weise Malhotra Volpatti

How are these not the lines? The 2nd, 3rd and 4th line should all be able to start in their own zone, Schroeder is given quality wingers that compliment his style and the 3rd line has shown chemistry in the past.

AV still in early season form.

The lack of offense on the Higgins-Hansen group will go way down with Lappy there. I think that is why.

He was super tiny and light weight frame, but then grew 5 or 6 inches around the draft. He was even considering giving hockey because of his size IIRC.

Btw what did people think of the Edler hit on Perry? It seemed to me that he had legitimate beef - I actually thought we would get called for boarding there.

But it's tough too because Perry was leaning into the boards when Edler pushed him - obviously you don't want your guys injuring other players, but what's a D-man supposed to do in that situation?

Watched the ducks tv feed. Wow, I haven't heard that much butthurt whining from a pair of homer announcers in quite a while. That was something else.

Hayward? He is one of the worst. But it is fun listening to guys like him when the team is losing.

Just shows you that perception is everything.

I thought it was a case of Edler gave him a little shove and Perry launched himself into the boards trying to draw a penalty.

A pretty decent line up for an injury depleted team. We are going to have a pleasant problem in March ... when we have to add Kesler, Booth and Jensen into the mix.

We were all worrying about our forward lines .... but it looks like we could have 15 serviceable forwards ... and everyone of those guys brings something valuable to the table.

LOL its almost like we want nothing but draft choices and prospects for Luo assuming he does get traded.

Of course, this is assuming that Schroeder is the new Morrison for the Canucks after 2 games. Here's hoping he keeps it going, that Rainman has been truly resurrected.

After a 5 - 0 win, we basically are all sure we won;t lose another game this season.

That's what it looked like to me as well. I was surprised Perry got so upset.

Perhaps, but I don't see him trying to go after Edler and trying to get him to fight if that had been just a dive. We all know Perry throws tantrums like he did last night, but I don't think even HE'S that dumb to try and milk it even more.

LOL probably my place. I have beer, a 55" TV and a hot tub.

I have never watched a Canucks game at a bar in WA. I know where to go in HI and Cabo.

I have posted before that the Bob Burgers and brews are great burgers, and usually show a hockey game (and many a basketball game for some god awful reason.) I know the Copper Hog usually shows the games too.

Let me know next time you are coming down.

From the angle I had (TV) I thought it was one of those borderline hits. I wouldn't have complained if it had been called (except about Edler) but I didn't think it had to be called.
