Good Power plays really aren't rocket science. You look at the AVs, and Tampa and it's a combination of constant movement, and passing with speed. Many times it's a back door play, or a well positioned screen with a tip. It's 3-4 passes and a shot or drive the net.

It's sort of baffling since we have so many set plays (or seem to) in OT. Our OT play is what other teams look like on the PP. Once we're confined though, we're handicapped.

Except Svech has a higher xGF away from Aho the last three seasons in 5v5 play than with him.
What’s the answer then? They’ve got one of the top young centers in the league in Aho, the best wingers and young power forwards in Svech. That SHOULD be 2/3rds of a 1st line shouldn’t it?

Maybe they’ve been there this whole time and I never noticed, but just FYI… there are Starter jackets for sale in the Eye. $185.
You talking about this one?

And there was about 2 months last year where we did this at the start of the season and absolutely collected PP goals. That constant motion created defensive confusion which opened up the passing lanes that got the easy goals that guys like Aho are now looking for. But we had to work for it, and by the end of the year and into this year, there is a complete unwillingness to work for it on the PP.

We're not a good enough team to win without working for it.

No, these are more like 90s style Starter jackets. Actual Starter brand.
Oh seriously? I saw they did an interesting throwback Adidas style with the RR that looks.... alright.

Haven't seen any Starter brand online, though.

We put up a ton of shots, but really how many were truly dangerous?

Raanta with a sub 90 sv%

Not faulting him, but he didn't make any spectacular saves, and none of those he let in were truly unstoppable.

Special teams are just sad.

Sorry Jarvis, I think I stole your mojo.
17-7 for HD chances in all situations

Holy cow I just went and looked at PP rankings, I knew they weren’t good but didn’t realize it was that bad. That shit is embarrassing. Aho looked really frustrated in the post game, especially when asked about the PP, said it wasn’t a lack of effort on the power play, just got to be better.

And when was the last time the Hurricanes had a below average PK? What’s up with that?

Gotta disagree with him just a little here...when you dick with the puck for 10 sec but don't move and just wait for something to magically materialize, that's lack of effort. And when your teammates are standing around waiting for you to make something magically materialize, that's lack of effort. TRY to make something happen, MOVE AROUND, stop blasting the puck into the guy standing 2 ft in front of you after holding too long, one-time a f***ing pass every once in awhile

I really like how that jacket looks from the front. The back is just ok.

We’re 3rd in the East right now despite the issues and injuries
Yeah I think if they can sort out the special teams, get some players back healthy they’ve got just as good of a chance as any at making a deep playoff run. I would still like to see an upgrade on the 3rd pair, somebody who can PK and throw some weight around.

But as we’ve seen over and over and over, to win a championship in this league you’ve got to win the special teams battle, IN THE PLAYOFFS, and I really think that’s one of the main things holding the Hurricanes back. Ohh, and a goalie that can steal a game or two when needed, they’re kind of missing that part right now too.

Surprisingly I think the loss of Trocheck and Ian Cole were big losses for our PK.

Trocheck on the PK last year killed at a 91% rate. Cole killed at 88%. Two important pieces on the PK gone.

Noesen should have had 2 assists tonight. he's been fantastic with Aho and Necas. Driving the far post on the Necas goal and mucking it up in front of the net on the Aho tally. it's weird how you get help from unexpected places sometimes but he's been a good placeholder. 2nd most surprising contributor aside from Marty. A point against the defending champs. It could be worse.

The goaltending makes me uneasy. If you have two goalies you have none kind of thing. I hope Kooch is able to hold up to the ask, but I don't want to see another otherwise Cup Finals type team torpedoed by human goaltending again. Raanta, I love him, but he's not built for extensive use. I wonder what's going to be the leaguewide situation at the deadline as far as guys with deep playoff runs or if we're going with Freddie.

The frustrating thing about the PP tonight is that they made the plays they just couldn’t finish. That back door play from Jarvis to Aho is perfectly run and Aho doesn’t bury it. Svech rang one off the post after some good movement. It means nothing without the results but it’s not like they’re just hopeless out there like they appeared in prior games.

$185 for a jacket? God, what's it like to have so much disposable income?
It's pretty awesome.

I still have my old Durham Bulls Starter jacket, and the sneakerhead kids are always all over me about it.

"Hey man, where did you get that jacket?"

"Uh, 1995?"
