Rutherford won't go on full rebuild with EStaal in his prime, with Jordan, with Sekera, Semin and full time NHL-ers like Faulk and Skinner. Just won't happen.

Williams scored another empty better I remember vaguely......

Hey, that's the second time a Justin Williams empty netter has ended our season!

Wonder if this one will be another noteworthy one, jr can't think we're a legit squad right now.

I hope that JR has the good sense to sell wisely, and then step down. He's 65 years old, with no relief in sight.

Do your best to set us up for the future, JR, and say goodbye. Please.

The real questions are can Rutherford realize that he is out of his element in today's NHL, and will he actually step aside if he does?

We can only hope. Only question is what we can get for who.

Malhotra we should be able to get a mid-round pick for. Hainsey could bring a 2nd but would it be stupidity to not try and keep him? Is this summer time to cut bait with Tlusty? Can we move Ward and Ruutu without bringing back other stupid contracts in the process?

The biggest thing this team lacks right now is playmakers. Simply put Semin is our only one at the moment... Lindholm will become one eventually. NOBODY else on the roster has the offensive creativity of those guys, sans Skinner, who's a finisher rather then a playmaker. And there are hardly any available this offseason either, that's basically limited to walking injury Hemsky, Derek Roy, Paul Stastny (both who we couldn't afford and wouldn't want to be 3rd line centers), and a 43 year old Jagr... seriously, that's it.

Fell from 11% to 5.7% chance for the playoffs today, according to SportsClubStats.

I wish the teams below us weren't so far any. This is pretty much where we're going to finish the season, with the 6th pick.

Unless we now start winning our way to 9th in the East to **** up our draft position yet again.

Actually, I don't think there's any threat of that this season.

On another note, we're picking one hell of a bad year for our season to start going to **** yet again. I'd ****ing KILL for this collapse to be happening next season instead. McDavid, Eichel, etc. best we have this year is Ekblad who isn't even the game changer that Jones could end up being. I honestly hope we end up with Dal Colle or Nylander in the draft, both bring at least one element that we need badly.

Start selling though: might as well have guys like Boychuk and Rask in the lineup, couldn't be any worse.

This is why I mentioned jstaal for kesler in the other thread the other day. He isn't a pure solution but he'd be more offensive minded than Jordan. Jordan has officially become an offensive disappointment to me. I've been patient, but I just don't see it. He somehow looks worse offensively than he was in Pitts.

I agree on the playmaking. It's the biggest problem on the pp, we just seem to lack the hand skill to execute the plays, and also lack the power forwards to drive and bury rebounds. How I can say that with two staals on board is shocking. We're just so stale offensively, which is hardly new but with the lineup we have it's become unacceptable. If we miss this season they have to at least look at trading off the core, though I doubt we do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we pass 1 or 2 teams. It's not the 7 points that makes it so unlikely, it's that we'll have to pass like 5 teams to do it.

Making up 7 points on one team isn't impossible. Making up anywhere from 2 to 7 points on 5 different teams is pretty tough.

When is the last time that actually happened? We have had top 10 draft picks for the past 4 years basically (Murphy was #12 in 2011)

Oh I guess I just answered my own question... 2011.

Regardless of what direction the organization takes moving forward (status quo, retool, rebuild), I wouldn't be upset if Jeff Skinner wasn't a part of it. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the guy. So, this isn't an overreaction to his recent scoring struggles. Still, we're all seeing what happens when he can't find the back of the net; he doesn't bring a lot to the table aside from goal scoring. Skinner's very limited in the playmaking department, disappoints defensively (even in his sheltered role), and struggles to make positive contributions to the forechecking and cycling game because of his size. Add in his contract and injury history... if JR can get a young Top 4 defenseman under team control for a number of years, allowing him to use that Top 10 pick on a forward in the process, I wouldn't be upset if he were to go. Skinner for Myers, perhaps?

Yeah next year is a killer draft. Even beyond McDavid and Eichel you have guys like Hanifin, Barzal, Kylington.

Don't worry. I'm sure we'll suck next season too.

Should we start a search party for Jeff Skinner. I haven't seen him since January.

beginning of January but yeah, if any other player played hockey like Jeff Skinner does night in and night out, the guy would be absolutely torched, ridiculed and be the subject of every trade proposal. like Ruutu for instance. just pathetic really.
edit: and Lindholm is far more physical and not such a $ussy on the boards.

and why would Muller play Komisarek over Harrison now when he hasn't played for so long, unless Harrison is hurt?

I wouldn't be for moving Skinner.

We saw him carry our offense for the entire month of December to keep us in playoff contention. He was then moved off the 1st line where he had the most success to make room for Semin. Not sure why the TEA line was even reunited. Hasn't done a whole lot. But still I am baffled they haven't put Skinner back there to get some offense. He was playing incredibly.

Semin and Jordan looked good together. I would love for them to leave those two together, put Skinner with Eric and see how it goes. The random TEA line experiment messed everything up. Skinner is constantly moved around playing with either Jordan which doesn't work, or Riley Nash which is an absolute joke. Jeff is obviously extremely talented but I'm not questioning his effort or lack of production recently because I don't see how one can expect him to produce seeing where and what he's playing with.

Basically either get a 3rd line center that doesn't suck or put Skinner with Eric.

It's like clockwork. I called it in the middle of Skinner's improbable and impossible to maintain goal scoring streak that as soon as his production slowed to a somewhat reasonable level. What's wrong with him? Nothing. The same thing that was wrong with Semin to start the year. Players go through streaks where they produce and streaks where they don't produce. You pay for your torrid streaks with long absences from the scoring column in most cases. Jeff Skinner is a 30 goal scorer and he has 23 in 48 games this year. I fail to see the problem here.

If our PP wasn't so anemic we could probably get a few goals out of him despite the reversion to the mean, but it's not happening right now and it has nothing to do with Skinner. It's just the stats.
