This team seems to have a hard time at drafting BPA... we'll see at the draft but it reeks of last year Slafkovsky vibes... Leonard FFS...

Yep.

Rare real 2-way winger that score almost a goal per game everywhere last season in the minor, that can hit like truck and play with an edge with a game that will translate very well in the NHL........really sucks, right?

Teams are craving for that type of player, especially when the PO comes, and he's the flavor of the year cause if there's a Tkachuk type of player in the top 10, it's Leonard.

You don't who is BPA, you think you know but in the end games, no one knows......especially us Fans.

Because it impacts his business in a negative way. Corporations have investor credit scores, picking a russian high in the draft goes against the interest of the world investor governance. That's the sad reality.

Having gone through the Mailloux debacle further drives the point home. Picking Michkov wont cause the public outrage Mailloux did, but it will affect the credit score of his entire estate. He wont go through round 2.

Dude is also in the order of Canada who's also balls deep into NATO.

I've covered all of this the minute the season ended and we started talking picks. But you were too busy meme'ing. You're still one of my favorite posters though.

Seriously?

Molson would be held accountable for drafting a Russian individual who has nothing to do with the geopolitical situation?

Let's just ban all Russians from any walk of life.

I'm sorry but that shouldn't fly.

How does drafting Michkov sends a negative message to the org? Tell me that.

Seriously how low we become if someone that did absolutely nothing but wants to play hockey is viewed as a negative person for a world club

Yeah but he's a mere 5'11", practically a dwarf. Not even sure they make skates small enough to fit him.

He knocks guys flat. If he puts on a few inches and some pounds then sure, but if he stays at 5'11" it's not a good idea to play at 220.

I mean he's bigger, faster and more skilled than Gallagher. So there is potential for sure. I'm just wondering if he can't continue playing as physical a game, will that throw off the rest of the game. For Gallagher it was no, but he just took on severe punishment to hang in and score, but that's not Leonard or anybody else. You suggest he is like Marchand which would be great. Just wondering.
he's listed at 6'0, he won't need to get to 220 but around 210 should be fine or maybe even a little less depending on lower body strength.

I didn't say anything about Marchand though, I never thought of him to be honest but when I was watching the USNDTP this year I was mostly focused on Smith I guess since he stood out more.

Do we know if any of Molson's enterprises or any of our sponsers were forced to pull up stakes in Russia?
There are a lot of ramifications behind the scenes we may know nothing about. Political and otherwise.
I bet the sponsors care so much , they sure dont care with all russians playing in other teams.

Michkov = talent = more viewers = more money

I don't think it's that.....but I could understand Molson nixing this pick even if HuGo decided to go with him.....let's say it's the exact same reason we hired morons like Therrien or Bergevin in the end.

I wont get into politics in this thread, but it's not about Michkov being a negative, it's about not feeding Russian exceptionalism essentially.

We're in the middle of war. It sucks. None of this has to do with actual hockey.

Very telling about how Slafkovsky is a bad prospect and a bad pick. Mandala would have picked him after Leonard. Holy christ. Habs are so dumb.

I am no GM, scout or else. Just my impression that this year draft is very strong. I enjoy everyone's opinion and can't wait to see what happens.

This I could understand Molson is still a moron even after hiring someone to do his president job

He's still the owner.....

I just hope the decisions come from HuGo. Kakko, Lafrenière, not-Michkov? Let’s hope Slaf works out. Lol

To be fair anyone and their mother and their dog, would have chosen Lafreniere.

Even if it hasn't worked out thus far. It was still the right pick at the time.

That's all you can ask your team to do in a draft.

There's no 20/20 hindsight while your in the moment.

Play the Russian national anthem before every game if you win not a single habs fan will care lol

Trying to appease a very small percentage of people who still care about the ongoing conflict is silly.

And Kakko. People need to stop with the bullshit. The picks to question are Kravtsov and Andersson.

I don’t have insight how those Rangers picks came to fruition. What I ask from my team is a process. Hire the best scouts. Let them scout. Let them get the BPA.

I think we go with the relatively safe pick of Leonard (especially because we need size).

I doubt they take Benson, partly because he is smaller.

(Not saying I agree with this size thing but I think they are really looking at this and trying to think of the team make up over the long term)

I understand the reasoning of your post, I just don't agree with it. Not that it won't happen, but rather it's the wrong idea from our management side.

And I say this as someone who's intrigued by Leonard.

If they pass on Michkov ugh.

He'd be my choice too. Him or Dvorsky.

I'm saying all the best scouts would have made the same choice.
It isn’t always like that though. Katz, Lowe & co. overruled their scouts who en masse didn’t like the consensus #1 Nail Yakupov. If Habs scouts tell me they independently believe Leonard is the best player, I’m 100% on the Leonard bandwagon. F Michkov. But I don’t believe for a second that’s the case.
