Some still think there is a chance MTL draft Michkov ??

I mean they are more chance that they trade the pick for an establish player that they pick Michkov
Who will they be drafting instead? Sam Bennett? Some here give the benefit of the doubt to the GM and the club. Against all odds, we still have faith in humanity.

I mean it's very hard to convince me a team could not benefit from a guy like Smith. I am not sure where you are getting your impressions about playoffs but by all accounts Smith has a ton of heart and tenacity in his game. He is willing to go to the tough areas and unafraid to pay the price. He's extremely quick and agile, has elite level hands, good shot, probably the 2nd best playmaker in the draft, kills penalties, etc... he does it all and does it better than most. And he's a center, good on the draw.

He has all the physical tools to make it to the NHL. I don't really see much risk in terms of his style being translatable to the NHL.
I subscribe to a lot of scouting sources and waste a silly amount of time and money on it. None of them state what you're suggesting about Smith. None. He is an amazing talent who ignores defensive responsibilities, is a perimeter player, has no physical game and waits for the puck to come to him.

But again, he has ridiculously high skill level. The concerns with Smith are whether these gifts are enough to offset his many flaws...especially come playoff time.

Zibanejad is considerably more physical than Smith, perhaps not as much as when he first came into the league throwing over 100 hits per season but he still plays the body more than most skilled forwards do. I find that he has more similarities with Aho although he will have to bring his defensive game up to make that comparison more realistic. It is tough to gauge the defensive acumen of USNTDP top forwards as they are encouraged to dunk on their opponents and be aggressive offensively. We will get a much clearer idea of who Will Smith is next season.

He wasn’t at the same age

He wasn’t at the same age

Zibanejad was very physical at Smith's age and was hyped as a power forward especially after running over kids at the U18s. He came into the NHL and was on pace for 140 hits as a rookie and threw 149 in his second year. I am 100% certain that Smith will never do these things. There are definitely similarities between the way they handle the puck and see the ice so your comparison absolutely has some merit, I was just pointing out a significant stylistic difference between the two players.

You're a smart guy, don't give these clowns a penny, they are no more qualified than a significant portion of HF posters. I am actually considering starting my own, so make sure to give me some of your hard earned money as well.

Elliott Friedman is reporting that the teams drafting above the Washington Capitals ...picks 1--7...are unable to speak to Matvei Michkov. Supposedly, he is deliberately shunning these teams (which includes the Habs) in order to be drafted by the Capitals.
Jarogmir Jaeger did the same thing at the time in order to play with Mario Lemieux and the Penguins.

Ovechkin will be 41 by the time Michkov’s KHL contract is up. Why not make his own legacy somewhere?

Pure bs by Friedman

Kuz ovy and backstrom will be all gone before he makes it.

Friedman's love to spray shit everywhere hope some of it sticks.

Dubois will 95percent join the habs btw

If this is true then Hughes will definitely pass him over.

Another Russian player was recently signed by the Capitals. Clearly, Russian players are attracted to the Capitals because of the legacy forged by Ovechkin.

It is beginning to make sense.
A month ago, Mike Greer, the GM was openly stating he is interested in what Matvei Michkov has to offer. Suddenly, he appears less interested, instead, he is concentrating his efforts on possibly drafting Carlsson or Will Smith.

Btw, Elliott Friedman is well respected, as well as being well connected.

Wasn’t that a speculation from a couple of days ago that has since been debunked?
Are you saying the top 7 teams have spoken to Matvei Michkov and his agent?....you have zero proof.

Smells like bullshit. And even if it's not, draft the kid anyway and then make him meet with Markov, Kovalev, Kovalchuk and Radulov. They'll tell him first hand how the Montreal crowd loves skilled Russians.

You’re putting words in my mouth and completely twisting what I wrote. I don’t need to prove anything.

I was alluding to posts in this thread further to Friedman’s podcast that showed that he was misinterpreted.

One of the sources that was alluded to, was this:

The audio itself contains caveats which seem to have been ignored by those drawing conclusions — there’s a lot of over-extrapolation. Essentially, the conclusions drawn about Michkov’s interviews, are premature.

So based on the recordings with Elliott Friedman...Michkov is deliberately shunning some teams in order to be picked up a specific team...now, we can agree on that.

Those stating Michkov to WAS is an “ideal landing spot”…

OV will be retired when Michkov comes over. Also, with the team not in win mode ( they missed the playoffs and aren’t getting younger, OV still producing because of very easy deployment but his game has fallen off a cliff) Kuznetsov will probably be gone too. (He probably wants a shot at winning, becomes UFA in 2).

So I don’t see why and how WAS is an ideal landing spot.

There seems to be a lot of BS running around concerning Michkov. This is just one of them.
