Enough of:
He was a big Habs fan as a kid. His coach and linemates really recommended him. He’s the last guy that leaves the ice. He’s also a gym rat who excells in other sports…
Replaced by:
I coached him as a kid, he’s from the Boston area, I know his parents, he’s a 5-star human being.

:sarcasm:

I was thinking the caps wanting Michkov to replace AO.

well someone knows. :DD I remember a long time ago when ISS first started, I'm talking the very start, I was in touch with the owner of the site who put me in contact with his head scout (the owner I believe was a former assistant coach in the NHL at some point if I recall, since we are talking around 20 years ago. I remember the head scout saying to me how back then at least, scouting was so small that since the scouts all knew each other, teams usually had a decent idea who most teams were in on. With the Habs I certainly knew months in advance that they were big into McDonagh who I hadn't heard of at the time but due to the info I started watching his games in the USHS.
At the end of the day, no one no nothing about who they gonna draft
I remember Timmins often saying from being around the rinks he had a good sense of which players had peaked the interest of which teams, and so he had a good idea of where players were going on draft day.

The time is now to bet the same amount on Smith, Michkov and Benson. You'll make money if any of the three gets picked. Leonard's and Reinbacher's odds are nonsense, but they will probably change as we get closer to the draft, so better bet now.
Bet your homes responsibly!

I don’t know if this link has been posted — if it was, my apologies. There’s been a bombardment in here since this morning and I’ve lost track:

« Le Canadien est très agressif pour grimper parmi les quatre premiers. Il est prêt à payer cher, a affirmé cette source. On ne se le cachera pas. Le joueur que le Canadien veut, c'est Will Smith. »

“The Habs are very aggressive in their quest to move up to nab one of the top 4 picks. Source says that Habs are prepared to pay a high price. No need to beat around the bush, the player that the Habs want is Will Smith.”

The above link confirms via a different, independent but credible source, what was advanced in this RadCan piece from the other day:

(Translation incoming)

My god surely this is a fake out. (If true)

Fake out how? RadCan and Bernier are two credible mainstream sources.

The hockey insider that Bernier consulted and who confirmed what the Habs are doing, is a high ranking individual from an NHL team, as stated in his article.

Habs trying to secure grabbing Matthew Michkov aye?

I would be surprise if Kent Hughes finds a way to grab the 2nd OA
Would you be surprised if Hughes found a way to land the 4th OA pick? Bernier article speculated that Hughes would deal from his D corps to convince Grier.

4th is probable yes

But would I trade Mailloux to move up at 4 ? Not sure
A scout quoted in the Bernier piece, FWIW, said that it could involve one or two D prospects and two draft picks. The scout said that it could even involve Mailloux as he didn’t see a fit for him with the Habs.

On what basis would Mailloux not be a fit? The scout did not say. Did he know something?

If the above scenario would materialize, it would be Mailloux, another D, the 5th OA and another pick in exchange for the 4th OA.

Yes that’s why I put Mailloux in the discussion

I wouldn’t do this for the #4oa, not for Smith. If Carlsson is there maybe I would do it though

That seems like a huge overpayment to move up one spot....

I know that’s why you mentioned Mailloux but that wasn’t for your benefit, since you understand French. I was just adding details for others. ;)

Maybe you wouldn’t do it for Smith but if these mainstream sources are to be believed, Hughes …

Big physical and offensive Dmen have no place in the Montreal Canadiens lineup.

I only hope that everybody in the staff love Will Smith and not only Hughes If they want to do that

I'd rather they just stay @ 5 and pick Michkov but if not (like we expect) then I'd rather they just take Leonard or Benson @ 5 instead of trading all that just to move up 1 spot for Smith. The Habs do seem quite desperate to move out of 5t don't they.

Those extra wins in the long lost season are coming home to roost, is all.
Screw you useless loser points.. Screw you. :)

Im not mad at the move up 1 spot idea. (I dont think moving to 2nd will happen), but I wouldnt do it for what people are saying.
5th and Kidney or 2nd rounder. Which they wont do.
I want Smith, but at the end of the day, Michkov really is the better prospect imo. So if we lucked into Smith - Bingo, if we take Michkov still pretty dope. Its if we go off that plan that worries me, but im also not the professional so im just happy to be here.

BUT has anyone thought maybe theyre trying to get the 4th WHILE KEEPING the 5th ;). immmmjk, but magine

The thinking behind Mailloux as a trading chip may be coming from Geoff wanting to distance himself further from the controversy his selection generated and not having to continue doing damage control once he dons a Habs jersey. They may be trying to do that now that Mailloux’s value has risen, as per another site, HabsolumentFan.

This added to not wanting to deal with the Michkov hot potato and the Habs apparently hard set on Smith, could explain how Hughes has gone about his quest for a deal, in an aggressive manner.
