It's something called copium. Very popular with fans during draft season.Somebody explain this to me please. How does a certain sector go from being paranoid we aren't picking Michkov at 5 to Hughes is trying to move up to 4 to get Michkov.![]()
And if we pass when he becomes a top player we are going to hear "well it was obvious he was the BPA but it was too risky at the time"..
It,s all about result in the end. No matter your field of work. Not sure why it should be different for them. Also, it's fans perspective vs pros perspective. They should know 99.9% more stuff than we do. We have our list based on what we know. Yes, if they didn't do their due diligence, they should be called for it. But I guess they will.
But as far as I'm concerned, while I would pick Michkov.....I will be glad to have Smith, Benson or Leonard on my team.
My only point is this...if they pick Reinbacher, MOSTLY BASED ON NEEDS because RD....they BETTER make sure he'll become a top 2D. The only way they will be applauded for having make that pick. 'Cause the not so hard prediction to make is that players chosen after Reinbacher will play a key role. Players that if we would go BPA, should have been chosen ahead. As of today, Reinbacher has not proven that he could add the offensive points than a Seider did. Not even close. And if our analysis is that he's the new Jay Bouwmeester...well I,m not even sure in redraft that Bouw is a top 5 pick. Top 10? Surely. But top 5...maybe only because 2002 was really weak.
Having a guy with a little less talent but that you can train feels more comfortable. That’s why a lot of scouts would pick this. It puts the pressure on the team rather than on their job. It gives some feel that they have control.
It might be true for the scout. But it’s bs for the team, IMO.
If you do you DD and you pick the right guy, all that matters is that he plays a lot and ideally gets feedback on what to work on. (Which can be done from a distance). The player obviously needs to be receptive to the feedback, though.
I think if guys with all the talent in the world aren’t receptive because they think they are the shit, it work work either way. First name that popped in my head was Filatov.
Anyway, I think the whole Michkov at distance is overblown. We are in 2023, not 1985-90. I feel like a lot of scouts think like it’s the peak of the Cold War. Even if the Russian thing does escalates(which it probably won’t), I think you can find ways to make the distance work, if Michkov doesn’t think he is Jesus…
That shouldn’t be hard to figure out.
There are shades of grey on both solutions but one just feels more comfortable because of old habits, IMO.
That doesn’t mean it’s the best one in this specific case. It might, but it doesn’t mean it is. Only way to find out is to talk to Michkov and get to know him a bit.
I don’t doubt he got the information from a hockey guy. But it’s only one guy. And who says it’s not just his opinion. Valid info but still not super solid. Why the f*** would a source gives free and confidential information to fckng Damico guys ?
He is just trying to increase traffic to his website.
Agent and sometimes front office personal may gives clues to insider like Friedman or Dreger or Lebrun or Seravalli or Johnston to get things going but thats about it.
The rest are spewing bullshit our of their ass and are too unreliable or simply don't have the reputation to be used by agent and team personel.
IB has a curious reputation. I don't feel like he's an insider or anything but I've seen him nail things over the years. Maybe I'm mistaken.
In any case, Michkov, Smith, and Benson (in that order) are my only options for 5OA as well, so this validates my priors and I therefore believe every word of it. But whatever happened to the Leonard, Dvorsky, and Reinbacher talk? All the underachiever types kept insisting on them three reaches for the 5OA.
If they move up to 2 they want Fantilli. If they move up to 4, it’s Smith. If they stay put, It could be Michkov or anyone else.Somebody explain this to me please. How does a certain sector go from being paranoid we aren't picking Michkov at 5 to Hughes is trying to move up to 4 to get Michkov.![]()
At the end of the day, no one no nothing about who they gonna draft
We’ll see in a week on the very last list of BobBob's McKenzie pre-lottery list had Smith at 3 and that's an average based on 10 NHL scouts. He's highly regarded by NHL scouts.
Which I think we can all agree should have started at minimum after the draft lotto, not after the combine
I found a tweet that mentions the “not be there” but according to me, not necessarily the “take him” part. I’ll dig a bit more.
Don't think you have all the info on him, you should start here tho.
Im good for the Top-5. But if they stray from that, they are in a can’t fail position and should be putting their job on the line. For example, yeah sure go Benson, but you need to put your head out there that he’ll be a can’t miss First Line Winger.I was interested to hear the conversations speculating about who HuGo might prefer. But the tone of the conversation has gotten quite heated.
Some are militantly convinced we're not touching Michkov. Some are militantly against not drafting Michkov.
I just look forward to seeing 1) who we pick, and then 2) in a few years how the pick turns out. I have to be patient for both. I don't expect HuGo to give too much information until draft day about who we'll pick. But I'll still follow the rumors, and signals. ..
I want HuGo to tell us we’ve drafted a future star. Top 5 are stars. You are drafting 5fth. Draft a star. If you draft out of the Top-5, you’re drafting a star.I have a feeling we’ll all be super disappointed with this years draft, both with who we draft and little to no moves of significance
Some interesting odds on Loto-Québec
I'll place some bets for sure.
In Jagr's draft year, Jagr was picked 5th overall. I think before him, Owen Nolan, Peter Nedved, Keith Primeau and Mike Ricci were picked. Ricci was considered can't miss but ended up being a grinder. So there's no guarantee even a top 5 guy heading into the draft will pan out.Im good for the Top-5. But if they stray from that, they are in a can’t fail position and should be putting their job on the line. For example, yeah sure go Benson, but you need to put your head out there that he’ll be a can’t miss First Line Winger.
No wishy washy: he’ll help the team for years to come.
Please pray tell
I was thinking the caps wanting Michkov to replace AO.Hoping to get Arizona to cough something up to get 5? They apparently have a huge interest in Reinbacher.
We need Suzuki to be our Stone.
At the end of the day, no one no nothing about who they gonna draft
