I find it puzzling that people believe that Michkov could fall past 5. If for some reason he actually drops to 5 he will be picked there. Hugo are pretty smart. If they do not want him, he now becomes a valuable asset, There will be plenty of offers . Judging by the names of players suggested by this board the Habs could trade down as far as 9 and still get a talented player that would be somewhat acceptable.

The Michkov contract thing is horseshit. If he wants to come over, he will come over, no matter the KHL contract.

the NHL honors KHL contracts so not sure what you are talking about, of course he will come over though, I never got anyone that suggested otherwise if they did. I think the concern is more will it be 5 years not 3 and if so how concerned would they be over 5 years of not having any say in his development. If the top 4 go as I assume they will then I would rather gamble on Michkov then taking just about anyone else. I want to see more of Benson but another undersized playmaker with ave skating would not make me thrilled at 5th OA. I like Leonard a lot but not 5th OA.

If not Michkov, who would you be okay with the team drafting?

Michkov can buy his KHL contract out. Money talks.

Either the Habs are using a smoke screen or they are putting it out there to prepare fans for the let down for passing on Michkov. I got to think that teams use the media to float rumors about interest or non interest in draft picks, cause it doesn't make sense for the Habs to leak that they want say Reinbacher in what has been over a month or more as the media was hinting at it when Hughes went overseas to see Reinbacher.

But as I said the other day who know what's going on as maybe the Habs are looking to trade down and want a team to up the ante or get into a bidding war between say the Caps and whoever else would want him badly enough to overpay to move up to get him.

no one honestly. For me since I assume the top 4 goes with no surprises and Michkov drops to us. I would take him but the Habs would have much better info on what's going on with him and the rumors about him re-signing with SKA for 2 more years. If they don't want to draft a Russian player then I will respect that, but there's no one I would want to take at 5th OA so I would look to trade down for another 1st. If I don't get another 1st then I guess take Leonard, I liked Moore better in the few times I saw them but that was early in the year and I just didn't have the time to see half of what I had hoped to for the draft. I would be interested in Wood as much like Michkov you go for the goal scorer but man do I hate his skating/speed but he can rip it and is huge. If you figure out the skating/speed you could have a Blake Wheeler type maybe. I do wonder if his skating/speed were fixed if he would be more involved physically, using his size to just dominate out there. But that skating/speed would be very tough at 5th OA, I would rather trade down for him imo but only for another 1st. Benson is very interesting but now you have a elite passer that's lacking height, skating and I'm not sure about the shot which makes me very worried for any playmaker first prospect.

Ouch.

That hurts.

I didn't want Slaf or Wright last draft either so 2 years in a row I'm expecting to be very disappointed and with such high picks. But in the end I don't give a shit, pick whoever the f*** they want just for the love of god please make the right picks. I won't say anything on Slaf because I just don't know the player yet at all and I dismissed the Kulich talk early on since Mesar has a lot of skill but man that looking really, really bad so you just hope Boborv and Gorton and Lapointe and everyone has their shit together and on top of things cause last years draft class is certainly a bit concerning considering they had the 1st OA and 3 top 50 picks. Hutson and Engstrom though you got to love how great things are looking for them and to be fair it works both ways when it's this early after a draft, you can't get carried away with the good or the bad just yet, the main thing is can they show progress next year and the next, and the next, etc..

Head amateur scout Stu MacGregor would ask the scouts to vote, and then he would leave the room.

Every time, the vote came back the same. Nine votes for defenceman Ryan Murray, and two for Nail Yakupov.

One of the Oilers Ontario scouts is believed to have had Yakupov outside his Top 5. The other had him second on the Sarnia Sting — behind his junior teammate Galchenyuk.

With the advice of their on-the-ground scouts tucked away, the Oilers brain trust of the day — Tambellini, president of hockey operations Kevin Lowe, soon-to-be GM Craig MacTavish, and owner Daryl Katz — would meet that afternoon to finalize the decision.

That evening, dressed in a flat grey suit with a blue striped tie, Tambellini recited the line that every recent GM has come to know so well: “The Edmonton Oilers are so proud to select, from the Sarnia Sting, Nail Yakupov.”

Nine to two.
Lowe/MacTavish were a disaster.

Yes he can, i've said that all year long but if he re-signs as the rumors are suggesting he might, then clearly he's not planning on buying out that contract any time soon one would logically think.
Unless that is a way to get more money from the Habs or any team that will draft him.

You didn’t mention Beck among the Ws — did you like someone else at his drafting slot?

Also, even if the Habs didn’t make their 13th pick (and their 66th), you gotta love Dach over anyone they could have gotten with those picks, in what was generally a weak draft class.

I like Dach and think he will take another step. But it is unclear that Nazar ( his spot ) or even Kemell won’t outperform him.

I would bet a large amount of money Will Smith won't be a top NHL player within the next 5 years.

Still young! Enjoy life, brother!

It's what I've often been told. Problem is, at some point, there's no more room for staying young. I guess as long as grey hairs are kept at bay, that I still recuperate normally and don't have many wrinkles, I'll keep at it. I hate growing old anyway, so I'll stave it off as long as I can. If only those arpund me could be so fortunate. That's what's most painful about growing old. The people that leave. The f***ing grief, man.
