You can live in a dream mate.

We all know that the older you get it's tougher to change right?

He could come here in 3 years just scrapped...
I am not the one saying that the old guys can still learn, Hughes is saying it. They have been pretty open about helping Anderson learn. He is much older than 21. So it doesn’t matter what we think because they will make decisions based on what they think is possible.

Even if he is messed up in 3 years, he will be better than the alternatives.

You might be right, I just don't see them going there.

I don't mind Craig for the entertainment factor and I like that he's a passionate guy that actually watches a lot of games. But good god his draft lists are something else entirely.
It’s nice to have a fresh take on things, as crazy as his rankings are sometimes. It would be boring if every list was just a regurgitation of the next.

Even bookies aren't placing odds on who Habs draft at 5th :laugh:

Just noticed Bob has Smith ranked 3rd now. I'd be very happy if we got Michkov and traded for Dubois (Beck, Panthers 1st, Dvorak).

More work required but I'd consider this a few more key parts added to a growing young core.

Suzuki, Dubois, Dach, Caufield, Slaf, Anderson
* Michkov, Roy, Farrell, Mesar

Guhle, Matheson, Xhekaj, Harris, Barron
* Hutson, Mailloux, Engstrom

Monty
* Primeau, Dobes

Two good grade prospects for 1 year of Dubois. Complete non sense to me. In a year where playoffs aren't expected none the less!

Sign him in a year without giving any assets. If he wants more than 7M$ a year, he can f*** off and sign in Ohio.

Honestly, if we aren't going to draft Smith/Michkov I want us to package the pick for Keller. I'm sure Yotes would love to get Dvorsky/Leaonard+Reinbacher. At that point you might as well also pony up the assets for PLD.

PLD-Suzuki-CC
Slaf-Dach-Keller

is a top 6 that can do some serious damage and are all young. Depth looks strong too with Anderson, Heineman, Mesar, Dvorak, Beck, Ylonen, Roy, and Farell although some would be included in the trades.
I may be on the outside looking in with this opinion but I don’t think you can put a cap to where Joshua Roy may end up in the lineup, he’s got real potential to turn into a pros pro player, a full on two way winger with elite shot vision and personality. His potential is top6 at least top 9 when he comes into the league. Giving his spot away could prove deadly.

Beck is a B+ trending OK and the Panthers 1st it not a good prospect yet. Saying no to Dubois because you think Beck reaches his ceiling level is like saying no to ROR for Poehling+. The hope in Poehling back when is similar to Beck today. And yeah, I was both a fan of Poehling back when and Beck today. I'm not easily including Beck but I would if it go Dubois on a fair 8 year term

Dubois is not going to be a UFA in a year. Someone will get the sign/trade done. If you don't like Beck/Panthers 1st for Dubois, then you probably didn't like Romanov+ for Dach. The next question I ask is how much confidence do you have at finding a physical center like Dubois who can contain other top centers physically in playoff style hockey?

It’s already been reported that it will be a sign and trade, whoever gets PLD will get him for 8 years.

If Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith go top 4, the Habs would be insane to pass on Michkov. This team hasn’t had a single player hit 40+ goals or 85+ points in almost 30 years. That’s way too long without a single elite forward, and Michkov has a MUCH better chance to be elite than Leonard, Benson, etc. Waiting 3 more years for Michkov to come over is nothing.

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to succeed from the 3rd line. Reilly Smith was the 7th most used forward on the Knights and had 26 goals. Not to mention, we aren't playing scrubs over him and who knows what happens (Slaf may not perform well and Roy takes his spot instead). We don't have that top 5 forward up front so we would likely be rolling 3 very good lines which seems to be the key anyways nowadays.

There is so many draft threads right now, I've been most active here and meant to post this here, but I pulled some more quotes from scouts out of an article on the Athletic today:

An interesting article in the Athletic today with more quotes from scouts and executives. Here's a few points and quotes cherrypicked as it relates to the Habs pick:

On the question of who should go second overall, the answers are Carlsson (3), Fantilli (2), Smith (1) and Michkov (1).

A quote on Michkov:
Executive 8: “Once Bedard, Fantilli, Smith, Carlsson go is when I start to think about it. Dvorsky versus Michkov, Reinbacher versus Michkov, that would be a real debate in our room. Once you get past guys like that it starts to get a bit ridiculous though. You can have real reservations about picking him for legit reasons, but he’s generational at the hardest thing to do: scoring goals.”

A quote on Leonard, about who is the 2nd best player in USNTDP:
Executive 2: “Your question has the presumption Smith is the No. 1 guy, but there are several people on our staff who would take Leonard over Smith.”

On who is the 2nd best player in the WHL:
Scout 2: “Danielson has an easy path to being a top two-line NHL center. He skates very well, he’s smart, he competes, he has NHL size. People are sleeping on him.”
On who the best defenseman is:
Scout 3: “Simashev should be the first defenseman picked on pure ability. He has top pair tools. Will someone actually do it, especially with how good Reinbacher looked? I’m guessing unlikely.”
On goalies:
Scout 3: “It’s tough. Augustine has the numbers, but not the NHL skill set. Gajan didn’t play in a good league. Hrabal was up and down, same with Bjarnason. They’re all good, could all go in the second round, but I don’t think anyone separated from the pack.”
On But and Simashev:
Executive 5: “If But was playing in the CHL he would be a top 5 pick, Simashev close to top 10.”

There is a lot more in this article I wont cover, lots of great quotes. There must be over 100 quotes in total. I have a couple of free passes I can give out for the Athletic, so if someone is interested just DM me.

Pick #5 should be the easiest decision after pick #1

But if we think Leroux is reliable. Lets start dreaming about Fantilli.

Because according to Leroux and what he heard, Fantilli will drop because scout are concerned with his low comprehension of the game and apparently it did not improved at all.
That is rather troubling and yet pundits continue to rank him 2nd. Essentially, Leroux is claiming that Fantilli has low hockey IQ?

I wonder how much of that will be actionable intel given the propensity of NHL GMs to salivate over big, strapping centers.

Would you have Leroux’s link for that quote, handy by any chance?

Just reading that I feel like changing my user name to Executive77. Lots of great quotes in there, thanks for sharing.

A salient point for me is how there isn’t much separation amongst the goalie crop, so they can probably be had with later picks. And more importantly, how that FLA pick could net us a real good prospect based on all the undervalued names being suggested — one of them is bound to drop.

Some are setting themselves up for disappointment with this Michkov to Habs talk.
Yeah arguing themselves blue in the face when it's possibly a non-starter. It may not have dawned on them that our CEO and Ownership group (well within their rights) have nixed the idea of drafting MM with our 5th selection and he's not even on our board at this point. This is far more likely to be the scenario than HuGo worrying if he will be coming in three years. But hey let's all go ahead and threaten to leave or give up on our management group without a shred of real knowledge to back it up.
