I remember last year at the draft I was shocked when the Habs took Slav. A lot of Habs fans were sure they'd select Wright. So I wouldn't read too much into what Hughes says/doesn't say about Michkov.

I am however very excited to see Bobby Mack's pre draft list. If Will Smith is #3 on that list, or if he is selected at 3, its going to change a LOT.

Remember back in 16 when Puju was the consensus #3 and Dubois was anywhere from 4-6?

Oh we remember changed a lot when dubois was picked 3rd. Mtl would look a lot differently right now if poolparty was picked instead

What happened there again? Subban was to be dealt for the #4 pick (+) where Mtl would pick Dubois but when Puju "fell" to the Oilers the pick became too valuable? (snickers)

Why doesn’t Dvorsky bring KK flashbacks pre-draft? Very good big two-way Centers, defensively responsible, questions about the skating, Ok stickhandler, offensive Creativity not obvious. Offence at the NHL level is a question mark, some indicators show there might be some offence there, but did not exactly shatter any offensive records this pass season.
To me, in retrospect, as someone who had KK 5th, I think I was oversold on his creativity and assumed he would develop a quicker release which he still hasn't done. Dvorsky might be similar in terms of creativity but I project him to be a lot more productive because he has shown he can run a powerplay from his position on the half wall, and he has a quick and accurate release which should translate better to the NHL.

It was going to be a pick switch. Montreal 9th for Edmonton 4th. We wanted PLD anyway, so once he went to Columbus there was no need for a trade.

It was independent of any Subban trades? God I'm glad Bergevin and his drafting strategies are gone. Of course that dummy would go hard after a french name in the draft.

I also don’t want the Michkov skip to be true but the Habs clearly leaked the Slaf pick in the last few days leading to the draft didn’t they? Not so tight lipped.

I find it strange Hughes said they haven’t yet talked to Michkov. What is keeping them? I hope he was lying to deter SJS from valuing Michkov enough to nab him but I really don’t know. It’s a bit agonizing to think about.

Bobrov will ensure the Habs draft all the critically flawed Slovaks possible.

They were drafting 1st, very different when you draft 5th.

I must have missed the slip because I was expecting Wright at 1 the day of. Some doubts were starting to creep in when Bob Mckenzies list had Slaf at 1 though. Something like 7/10 scouts had him first overall.

Dvorsky carried Slovakia into the semis this year and was involved in about 90% of the goals, pre draft KK was all upside he hadn't shown anything special offensively neither. He was able to produce but never dominated. He got pushed on us by people in the know and quickly the fan base accepted him as the pick.

Dvorsky dominated the U18s and his complete game is just a plus, I'd easily take Dvorsky before KK if I had the option to pick one in their respective draft years.

The deal wasn't with Vancouver ?

I thought it was Horvat + 4th pick oa + ? vs Subban + 9th oa ?

He was asking for Leon with EDM for Subban ?

LOL I just.. Can't believe this is a real post?
Not only would Slaf go before Wright in a redraft right now
Get this
Slaf went ahead of Wright in the REAL draft too
3 guys went ahead of him actually.
In your redraft, Even a couple more teams may pass lol

Bold take - I wouldn’t be surprised if Wright wasn’t in the top 10 in a 2022 redraft 5 years from now.

i think it was 4 slaf, 4 wright, 2 cooley

It was 5 for Slafkovsky, 4 for Wright, and 1 for Cooley.

Michkov
Smith

Any player besides these being taken I will be disappointed and of course if any of the top 3 slide down I would expect Hughes to be drafting them. Reinbacker is just being put into the top 10 because he is the only decent Dman in this years draft class I think he is ranked just outside the top 10 for me and Dvorsky has KK written all over him to me so he is a do not draft for me.

Never heard of the rumour with Vancouver and your right on the Oilers trade rumour i've never heard that one also i thought it was the 4th pick for Subban.

In his report, Friedman goes over a lot of things that were already known, such as the Habs’ ask from the Oilers, a package of players that included Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton’s fourth pick in the 2016 draft, a defenceman like Oscar Klefbom or Darnell Nurse, and another asset. This massive ask was discussed on various Oilers radio shows at the time of the draft.

Bergevin would have won that trade :-)

Yes I remember that to ! That would probably have been the trade MB have ever done !

A MTL
Leon Draisitil
Oscar Klefbom
4th pick OA (Image we took M.Tkachuk with that pick ! )

A EDM
PK Subban
9th pick OA

But yes they where something with Vancouver too

Perfect example of the best trade is the one you don't end up making something like the Lecavalier trade to Montreal.

Kind of odd people being up Lehkonen when talking about Leonard. Only thing they have in common is that they work their asses off every shift. But Leonard has way more natural talent and is a much smarter offensive player.
It's not that odd, IMO. The point is that for whatever reason (I genuinely can't figure out why), there's a crowd that has decided that Leonard, who scored 51 goals in 57 games this year, is "unskilled" or some "character" pick. As a result, we get the Lehkonen comps to imply that his projection is a Lehkonen/RHP type or something and do the "passing on skill" narrative even though it's only true relative to Michkov who wouldn't be dropping for "skill vs. grit" reasons anyway.

I'm not sure why people can't just say "I prefer Michkov/Smith/Benson because I think they have higher ceilings than Leonard due to their playmaking skills". That's a perfectly reasonable and understandable opinion which doesn't require us to pretend that a guy who scored 51 goals this year somehow isn't skilled.

First time I see this posted. Great hands. I can't say I'm impressed with the opposition however. I don't know if it's just me but the pace doesn't seem to be that fast,

Yeah to be fair the Michkov video was from a couple years ago, and the D on these highlights leaves alot to be desired to say the least. However while watching the video posted about Leonard the other day with his highlights from the U-18s, I couldn't help to wonder does anyone know how to play D anymore? It's quite shocking to me.
