No we shouldn'tWe should pick the guy who was hyped the most prior the season, lays an egg, still gets the benefit of the doubt and then lays an egg in his D+1.

No we shouldn't
Might also be that not enough time has passed to be patting ourselves on the back for last year's selection. No NHL success has been seen by any of the picks. Then be glad we didn't take who the majority of the fan base wanted last year.
Might just be that a lot of us don't have as much information as the NHL teams.
Dude! Exactly one year ago, you were ripping into anyone who suggested Wright wouldn't be a good pick at #1 after his miserable OHL playoff no-show. Don't be so hypocritical after our scouting team knew enough to dodge that bullet. Is there a big euro winger with no production available?
These guys were franchise changers. In a very different way then the McDavid's of this world.I think prime Dustin Brown, Adam Deadmarsh, Patrick Sharp are all good comparables for Leonard, he is in the same mold as those guys.
Those guys have all 1 thing in common thoughThese guys were franchise changers. In a very different way then the McDavid's of this world.

I had a huge amount of doubt about Wright, I can show you all the posts right now if you like. My favourite player was Jiricek which I can also show you but he was not in the running for our pick so it was no sense talking about. The fact of the matter is the draft sucked ass at the top end and we didn't have many good options either way. I was in favour of Wright over Slafkovsky and Cooley specifically and while Wright had a garbage year, Slafkovsky and Cooley haven't done anything to make me elevate them either.Dude! I would just add that they're comparables of what he could become, not necessarily what he actually will become. He could be the next Todd Harvey or undersized Zach Kaasian for all we know. Not all highly touted power forwards pan out.I think prime Dustin Brown, Adam Deadmarsh, Patrick Sharp are all good comparables for Leonard, he is in the same mold as those guys.
What makes you think any of Rangers European picks were bad? The coaches Rangers have had couldn't develop a cold. No forward prospect has developed with the Rangers. If Gorton hadn't been fired he may have fired Gallant and hired a real coach. Andersson was probably a dud but Kakko and Lafreniere might be performing like top 2 picks and Kravtsov might be looking like a half decent 2nd line forward. Is there a big euro winger with no production available?
I had Slafkovsky at 4-5 last year and I was very loud that I didn't want it
But the critics on him are just ridiculous, same as saying that others players in that draft are already better then him when he was the only want playing in the NHL. Be patient guys.. those big guys ALWAYS takes more time. Look at the Leon Draisiatil, Rantanen, Thompson
When Draisaitl was doing nothing, they sent him back to Junior. I would have liked to have seen Slaf in junior.
Slaf was getting better and better before he was injuredWhen Draisaitl was doing nothing, they sent him back to Junior. I would have liked to have seen Slaf in junior.
That is true. I just would have liked to see him get a lot of touches and dominate.Slaf was getting better and better before he was injured
Some needs to understand that no one (NHL executive, agents, scout) doubt Michkov talent
The thing it's those guys have information we don't have here behind our laptops and there decision have repercussions on a billions worth company. It's easy to say take Michkov in our position since it dosen't change anything in our life if Michkov dosen't come
I tried to speak a little bit to agents yesterday at the QMJHL draft and no one had a single clue of what was happening with Michkov…
He’s the same size of Connor Bedard though and at the opposite of Caufield, Michkov is build like a tank.I do have a feeling some doubt the impact Michkov will have at the NHL due to his size and non elite speed.
Look how far Caufield fell at the draft even though he was rated top 4 on many lists.
Without knowing the information about the Russian factor, he's the type of faller that I want due to his size. If Cole Caufield weren't 5'7, he wouldn't be a Hab. Perhaps if Michkov weren't 5'10 (he may really be 5'9) he wouldn't be available at 5.
That’s it right there. Slaf has merits man. He is a big man that has skills and interesting speed+skating for such a big frame. Good kid, involved on the ice. Effort. All that jazz. When Draisaitl was doing nothing, they sent him back to Junior. I would have liked to have seen Slaf in junior.
You seriously see nothing jaw dropping here?
I didn't want Wright either last year (I had Nemec at 1, Cooley 2, Wright 3 with Slaf at 8), but it is way too early to be putting Slaf above Wright in a redraft. I really hope Slaf succeeds, but I haven't seen anything from him at the NHL level to suggest he's worthy of taking over Wright in a redraft. Not patting anyone on the back, just saying that we have a very recent example of the group think on the board looking very wrong, very quickly after the draft.
So taking pot shots on the Slafkovsky selection seems pretty silly when a Wright selection, the preferred selection of the board, would have been looking beyond disastrous 1 year out.
And what exactly has Wright proved so far?I didn't want Wright either last year (I had Nemec at 1, Cooley 2, Wright 3 with Slaf at 8), but it is way too early to be putting Slaf above Wright in a redraft. I really hope Slaf succeeds, but I haven't seen anything from him at the NHL level to suggest he's worthy of taking over Wright in a redraft.
We'll see how the next few years unfold though.
