If the Habs go Benson, I’d be ok with that. He certainly not as depressing as Leonard and Reinbacher.

How in the heck would Leonard be depressing to draft?

He has it all, speed, rugged, shooting, passing...

You can see him scoring 30+ in the NHL per year, and 40+ is not out of the question at all.

I agree with you about Reinbacher though.

You should also add character in there somewhere since character seems to trump all else over here in Habsland.

Yep, that's it.

They take players solely cause they cook on their own, look sexy, have a good personality and have good character.

The guy who scored 50+ goals this year, has multiple highly skilled highlight reel goals and the defenseman who put up the 2nd most D year points in the NLA second to only Auston Matthews are no skilled plugs.

When you start your reasoning with "he has it all", that means he's boring ;)

Here ya go. :)

Thanks.. The guy talking must a Newfoundlander for sure since he talks kinda like I do. :)

Here's Pronman's top 20 combined draft ranking for last years draft and this years draft for anyone who doesn't want to watch the video and was wondering what his combined ranking was.

1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Michkov
4. Carlsson
5. Smith
6. Slafkovsky
7. Cooley
8. Jiricek
9. Reinbacher
10. Wright
11. Gauthier
12. Korchinski
13. Dvorsky
14. Leonard
15. Nemec
16. Perreault
17. Kasper
18. Benson
19. Savoie
20. Mintyukov

One thing about Leonard that makes me at peace with the pick;

I've been watching a lot of USNDTP games since the lottery and you see the gaudy numbers that Perrault and Smith put up compared to the likes of guys like Hughes, Caufield, Keller, etc. But.. to me personally.. they look like visibly worse players than those guys. I couldn't help wondering why their production rate was so high. It seems their strength of schedule is the same as it always has been, no noticeable changes. The only answer I can come up with is that they play with Ryan Leonard. The eye test confirms this as well. He's always the last guy back, literally playing the center role in the dzone 90 percent of the time. Will Smith is a fantastic passer, but in his highlight videos, the guy who's usually finishing the play is Leonard.

If Michkov comes over and is a better player than someone we took instead of him, it will be argued about for decades.

And rightfully, if they pass on him, they need to be 100% sure that the player they take, will be better than Michkov or as good. They’d better pray that Michkov never comes to the NHL, because as soon as he comes, we will understand that the paranoia was never warranted. I don't care about the excuses that the apologist will come with, "Drafting is all about luck", "We did not know that he would come", "But Russia", "But Putin"...

It's our chance to get an elite player, we failed with KK, Galchy and maybe Slafkovsky (I don't think he will be elite), do it, Michkov may be handed to us on a silver plate...

I come to the same conclusion. After watching game compilations, the u18 and highlights, Leonard creates as much for himself as he benefits from Smith and Perreault. The difference in pts between him and the other two do not reflect a difference in skill level when you watch them play. He is the most noticeable player out of the three. He is a line driver.

I also truly wonder if Leonard doesn't have a future as a C. He has everything it takes.

And rightfully so. No GM that skips him should get a pass if this ends up happening.

I'm just waiting for the "well we all knew he was the best player available but it was too risky at the time".

I did not watch the games, I don't know Leonard... Why Leonard's stats are so low, compared to Perrault and Smith if they are playing together ? He has 20 fewer point than both. He's getting PP time ?

Whatever it is, I hope it isn’t the same thing Bobrov and Gorton chased in their time in New York.

I see the “has Jam and can play with the puck” concept but I’m a traditionalist a bit — I just want a few point producing classic playmakers.
Honestly, apart from Bedard and Michkov, i just don't see the true ppg star we are after. Also, i don't even think there was one last year.

Gotta go for BPA at this point and Leonard has a case at 5. I do think he is more than a character player with jam tho. He clearly has the aptitude to be a strong goalscorer and i don't think its impossible he ends up more productive than Smith or Carlsson.

its a bit depressing to be honest but its actually the real nature of tanking. The Matthews and McDavid are far from guaranteed.

If they skip Michkov they better nail it with whoever they pick. We won’t know for some years but it’ll be a very bitter taste until then.

The geopolitics are a legitimate concern. Relations between the USA and Russia are likely to grow much worse , it's the way that the winds are blowing.

Which says nothing about Mitchkov himself. He's not responsible obviously and we don't know his politics.

And it's also not up to Kent Hughes.

Man it would suck to draft complete players who bring skill, compete, offense, defense, physicality..

God forbid!
Allrighty, then.

Let’s take a closer look at that mythical player with all those attributes you listed. Let’s say, for argument’s sake that his name is … Equus.

It is widely accepted that Fantilli, Carlsson, Smith and Michkov all have first line ceilings.

Does Equus?
