I will
Bergevin simply went on "reputation", without ever thinking those player reputations might belong only to the past.
If we pass on him it will haunt us for 15 years. We needed this man.
Monumental f*** up that will cost us the next decade.
Not sure how you can argue for Bergevin’s CV when we know the results of his tenure… 1191 NHL games and no HS education is clearly not enough to make a good GM. We know this for a fact. We know this the hard way.Bergevin's CV was easily worthwhile. You must be joking if you don't think playing 1000+ games in the nhl isn't a great experience to have in order to get a job in the nhl, especially when the job has to do with scouting, which was Bergevin's 1st job after retiring from his playing career.
Cap space is an asset, and it's one that you give up when signing a player through free agency.
Alzner was averaging around 20 min of ice time on the best team in the league. Yes, he had a down season, but the idea that he was for sure done as an NHL player is nonsense.
David Savard was coming off a similar situation when the habs signed him, and it has been a decent signing. He had a down last season with Columbus and was sparingly used by Tampa in the playoffs. Savard rebounded with the habs, and the hope when Alzner was signed was that he would do the same.
And again, it's easy to criticize when you're not the one whose job is on the line. The management obviously knew there was risk associated with signing Alzner to a multiple-year deal, but they deemed it was preferable to doing nothing or giving up assets in a trade (like the Flames giving up a 1st and multiple 2nds to get Hamonic).
We were 15th in playoff victories because of Carey Price and despite Bergevin.Jets & another team had a higher offer ($ and term) which Alzner turned down for Habs
To repeat for the 100th time: Molson was on Melnick’s show, the off season plan after NYR playoff loss was to add to offense by extending Radulov & Markov for a set amount put aside, adding offense by acquiring Drouin to play W not C, and replace Emelin (who they planned to expose in VGK expansion draft) w Alzner for same cap hit. Those cumulative moves were devised to make it all fit under the cap
When Radulov refused to budge from wanting 8-year deal, and Markov wanting 3-year deal, there was no fall back Plan B… leading directly to Plan Z
Habs also were 15th in playoff victories during MBs tenure from 2012-2022 - if that’s a moron GM not sure what the other 15-GMs were..

Imagine a world where you think picking Reinbacher is a good idea with Michkov on the table! We need this guy. The 100 pts player we are waiting since 30 years
When Bergevin had to sign Price, it had to be 10,5 and that long term? That was an obligation? We were 15th in playoff victories because of Carey Price and despite Bergevin.
I'm so psyched at the opportunity that might present itself here. I just have huge doubts he falls to 5. Man it's exciting to dream.
Fit right in with the Montreal media.Fantilli or Carlsson would be peachy, almost too good to be true.
I recently learned that Carlsson is a stutterer, here’s to hoping CBJ prefers a marketable American kid like Will Smith and we’re lucky enough to get the awkward sounding Euro.
He grew up in perm which is a pretty hot region by russian standards. Probably colder here in winterSo is Michkov a sun loving guy or prefer the great white north?
Management tried. Monty and the entire 4th line should be sent to Siberia to think about what they have done. Pezzetta especially leaves a bad taste.f***ing idiots management should have tanked harder
Well…the quote is valid for the management tooI haven't seen one person discuss taking anyone other than the top 5 except in the scenario where our management team doesn't want to take the Michkov risk.
You cannot debate that, it will not be a decision anyone will have to make. We get the left over, not bad for a conselation prize.Debate here should be Smith or Michkov at 5
Anything else people should be worried to skip on 1 or those 2 studs at #5.
But don't expect them to be in the NHL next season.
The way they managed this was patheticf***ing idiots management should have tanked harder
Do you mean by intentionally hurting 3/4 of the players on this team and putting them on injured reserve, thus leading the NHL in man games lost for the 2nd consecutive year? The way they managed this was pathetic
What does have anything to do with potatoes?Do you mean by intentionally hurting 3/4 of the players on this team and putting them on injured reserve, thus leading the NHL in man games lost for the 2nd consecutive year?
That was the intent...I mean how did you want them to "manage" tanking harder? What does have anything to do with potatoes?
Yes.When Bergevin had to sign Price, it had to be 10,5 and that long term? That was an obligation?
In a normal world, Price would have been signed 8,5 and 7 years. Seems that once a player is identified as a major core in the team, he have to be signed an exagerated contract. Like with Gallagher. It's all or nothing.
Debate here should be Smith or Michkov at 5

So if Edm wins because of McDavid or Canes because of Aho that’s ok?
I’m fine at five. Smith or Mitchkov sounds like a great place to be. We’re not going to get Fantilli without some kind of insane move and that doesn’t really fit with where we’re at. So, at best we can move up two spots. Maybe they’d take the Florida pick to go with it but I doubt it.At 5 we get whoever is left over.
Debate could be, how much is worth giving up if we want to move up - and how much would Columbus or San Jose accept to move down to number 5.
Very few players are. For about a five year stretch there wasn’t a bigger difference maker in the league than Carey Price. The 2015-16 season proves it.Who said that's ok? The GM in Edmonton is equally under fire for actually not winning a cup yet despite having two of the best forward in NHL.......
And for Canes, kind of a terrible example has Aho is not even on the same level of Price in terms of game changer.
MB had nothing to do with acquiring him.So if Edm wins because of McDavid or Canes because of Aho that’s ok?
