All i remember is a week after acquiring alzner he was a on a habsTv video where he was bragging that his wife opens all the pickle jars at home because his hands are so shot lmao
This Karl Alzner talk reminds me of how he was also drafted 5th OA which is where we will be picking
Back in the day when everyone was trying to draft Chris Pronger. This Karl Alzner talk reminds me of how he was also drafted 5th OA which is where we will be picking
20 min a night? LmaoBergevin's CV was easily worthwhile. You must be joking if you don't think playing 1000+ games in the nhl isn't a great experience to have in order to get a job in the nhl, especially when the job has to do with scouting, which was Bergevin's 1st job after retiring from his playing career.
Cap space is an asset, and it's one that you give up when signing a player through free agency.
Alzner was averaging around 20 min of ice time on the best team in the league. Yes, he had a down season, but the idea that he was for sure done as an NHL player is nonsense.
David Savard was coming off a similar situation when the habs signed him, and it has been a decent signing. He had a down last season with Columbus and was sparingly used by Tampa in the playoffs. Savard rebounded with the habs, and the hope when Alzner was signed was that he would do the same.
And again, it's easy to criticize when you're not the one whose job is on the line. The management obviously knew there was risk associated with signing Alzner to a multiple-year deal, but they deemed it was preferable to doing nothing or giving up assets in a trade (like the Flames giving up a 1st and multiple 2nds to get Hamonic).
And both contracts were very much what idiots in the media pushed for to fill air time. Bergevin made a lot of clueless TSN moves in his last couple of years. All true about Alzner. But the Gallagher contract may ultimately turn out to match Alzner in the 'foreseeable albatross' sweepstakes.
Nobody wanted Alzner but Bergevin had a huge hard on. He was confidently replacing Markov20 min a night? Lmao
Alzner was a healthy scratch in the playoffs his last year with the Caps and he’d been in a steep decline for a few years prior already.
He was 100% a predictable (and predicted by many) bad signing.
Bergy probably didn't know that... Or else no one in their right mind make that kind of offer to a playoff healthy scratch. Clearly he didn't listen to his recruiters, such a stubborn asshole. He saw his old self in Alzner, went all in and touched himself that night.20 min a night? Lmao

Jets & another team had a higher offer ($ and term) which Alzner turned down for HabsNobody wanted Alzner but Bergevin had a huge hard on. He was confidently replacing Markov
What a moron of a GM. Unbelievable how dumb and condescending he was. "He's good at trades",,, that's bullshit, ever a broken clock is right twice a day.
Jets & another team had a higher offer ($ and term) which Alzner turned down for Habs
To repeat for the 100th time: Molson was on Melnick’s show, the off season plan after NYR playoff loss was to add to offense by extending Radulov & Markov for a set amount put aside, adding offense by acquiring Drouin to play W not C, and replace Emelin (who they planned to expose in VGK expansion draft) w Alzner for same cap hit. Those cumulative moves were devised to make it all fit under the cap
When Radulov refused to budge from 5-year deal wanting 8-years and Markov wanting 3-year deal, there was no fall back Plan B… leading directly to Plan Z
Habs also were 15th in playoff victories during MBs tenure from 2012-2022 - if that’s a moron GM not sure what the other 15-GMs were..

Most Playoff Wins Since 2012 In NHL | StatMuse
Since 2011-12, the Tampa Bay Lightning have the most wins by a team in the playoffs, with 87 wins.www.statmuse.com
So if Edm wins because of McDavid or Canes because of Aho that’s ok?Habs were 15th in playoff victories during MB's tenure for one reason and one reason only......cause the only times we won anything in the PO it's was because of this guy.

Dubois - Suzuki - CaufieldSmith goes 3rd, Carlsson goes 4th, Michkov goes to Montreal, and shortly after Dubois to Montreal trade is announced
Poor guy. Imagine Carlsson stuck with Adam Nicholas barking instructions at 3,000 words per minute, as he does all the time. That can’t possibly help Carlsson stay calm.Fantilli or Carlsson would be peachy, almost too good to be true.
I recently learned that Carlsson is a stutterer, here’s to hoping CBJ prefers a marketable American kid like Will Smith and we’re lucky enough to get the awkward sounding Euro.
I think that HuGo will consider a buyout or long-term disability as soon as it makes sense. It might not this year, if not expecting to compete, but perhaps the next. Or, in a parallel universe, if he catches fire, in relative terms, and HuGo can pawn him off to a contender...All true about Alzner. But the Gallagher contract may ultimately turn out to match Alzner in the 'foreseeable albatross' sweepstakes.
You’d be happy until the fresh prince of america bully offensively the awkward euro stuttering kidFantilli or Carlsson would be peachy, almost too good to be true.

reduced to this embryonic schema , your analyze seems nearly coherent.Bergevin's reign:
23rd best goals per game
T-29th best PP%
It's incredible what winning "all but one trade" over a nine year span can do for a team!
The same concerns remain, which are geopolitical and out of anyone’s control obviously. The Martineau piece helped get a better read on the player’s personal qualities and attributes, which some fans doubted.Seems the worries on Mitchkov have subsided quite significantly. Great for us. We wll just pick whomever is left of the big 5. That player will likely have a chip on their shoulder to prove the other 4 teams wrong.
