"Michkov is Cole Caufield on steroids"
- Dobber Prospects

Michkov's skating and conditioning worries me ngl.

But the ultimate redeeming quality is that he's a pudgy 18 year old putting those numbers on a shit team in the KHL. Generational type of shit.

He's not that dynamic, but he processes the play at such a high level, he doesn't really need to skate that much.

Hi there. Who is BPA at 5?
Go read my post. In essence, if Michkov is there, it's him. You don't break all sorts of records by not being a BPA at 5. If he's not there....it's more complicated. But I will believe that the one left between Carlsson and Smith, should be. If neither are there, and we don't pick Michkov, there are arguments so that Benson and Leonard could be BPA for me. I don't see Dvorsky or Reinbacher as fitting that definition.

So again, since people don't read my posts, I am NEVER advocating for THIS or THAT particular player to be BPA. As I understand that everyboyd has a list. It's not the NAME. It,s the STRATEGY.

Though in this year's case, since everybody call Michkov Bedard No2, it's CLEARLY that if Michkov's name is Marchment, he's No2. Which makes him a CLEAR BPA at 5.

IF the management thinks that the BPA is indeed Dvorsky and Reinbacher, first they better be right. Second, if they come out and say that that's what the strategy and it wasn't about needs, then I'll say fine.

If people are saying that michkov is too small and is too flashy with dangles the same can be said about smith. The amount I have watched smith he actually holds the puck a little too long and does dangerous dangles from the side board all the way up to the blue line. Which also wouldn't fly in the NHL either
Since I brought it up I'll say yes it's a question mark with Smith too. I'd even say it's one of the things that is driving the question of whether Smith is in the same tier as Carlson/Michkov or whether he's in that next tier of players.

And in hindsight we can say it's one of the reasons Drouin and Galchenyuk failed as they did. And it's why projecting players at 17-18 is so hard, you obviously love to see the skill/talent from the player but how well will they adjust their game when that's no longer possible is always a big question mark.

Yes but there’s the human bias element, in this case the Habs GM who knows first hand about Smith’s makeup, willingness & ability to learn, which then would theoretically tip the scale of balance ..

I did, and you didn't really say. Who is BPA?
Nah, you didn't, 'cause if you really did, you'd understand that me naming THE BPA is not the point....BPA could be plenty of guys. For every pick. At every round. Except for Michkov who would drop because of NON-HOCKEY reasons.

The point is about the strategy of not going for specific needs. How do teams go for specific needs NOW when the draft is all about projection LATER....lol

The draft is already tough to make when you have to project...imagine projecting a specific position.

Have you had a talk with yourself? 'Cause your old self was suppose to be tired of him a loooong time ago. But now, it's what, you'll tell us in 15 years if you were right? I guess that's longer than 5 years no? :D
Bruhhh! A GM that makes one bad trade in 10 years is a decent GM in my eyes...

Remember that if Michkov falls to 5, there's a reason. The guy is supposedly the best thing ever so if 4 other teams pass on him, you need to ask yourself why.

I don't know how much it's been brought up on this board but there's a rumor going around that he's close to signing a 2 year deal with SKA so instead of 3 years from now it would be 5. No clue how true it is but if it is he will drop for sure imo.

Could be a Malkin-like situation where he was "forced" to sign an extension. It didn't actually work out for his KHL team though since Malkin felt the team lied/betrayed him and so he defected and never played out his extension.

5 years = have a nice life, Mat. See you on tv maybe some day if they still exist by then. Heck even 3 is ridiculous; he might as well not even exist as far as the habs are concerned.

Anyone turned on by fictional line ups 3-5 years down the road surely has the capacity to be content in their own mind and let us have good hockey soon in real life.

Why would he sign a 2 year extension when he still has 3 years left? Doesnt make sense

I've only looked into the potential players likely for the Habs 5th pick but is there a goalie available in this years draft worthy of the Habs maybe taking a chance on with either the Florida pick or their own 37th pick?

Where’s this rumor from?

Hrabal, Bjarnason and Fowler are the top 3, as per @WeThreeKings.

Since we’re Habs fans, height is critical. Hrabal is the tallest of the 3 at 6’6. :sarcasm:

I’ve seen several posters say he can probably be had with the 37OA pick.

Someone’s hole. Not sure which hole, won’t be investigating either.

Your definition of BPA is unusual.

But I think what you’re saying is “as long as the Habs don’t draft for positional need I will trust whoever they pick was the BPA on their list” which is like saying that you pretty much trust the Habs to get this right no matter what. Which is fair enough.

I heard the same thing. I believe it was Stu Cowan of the Gazette on the radio. I also heard a rumour that his father was encouraging him to go to the NHL before his mysterious death.

Maybe these are true. Maybe they aren't. None of us sure as hell know. Thankfully Bobrov has some inside connections.

Literally, everyone knows the reason why
Assuming Smith is off the board by 4OA, it would be the greatest talent discrepancy between an overlooked player (Michkov) and the field since Eastern Bloc players are available. It get’s even more extreme at 6OA, 7OA, etc…

I think the insanity won’t go further than 8OA, 9OA with Caps and Wings.

My list so far is this:
Bedard
Michkov
Fantilli
Carlson
Smith
Benson
Leonard
Moore
Dvorsky
Reinbacher

In order of BPA. For me. As an opinion.

I'll tell you the day you give up on Bergevin.
Id put Dvo and Redenbacher before Moore. For NHL potential.
